What is the difference between a character being coded as gay or lesbian vs sapphic or achillean? Like I know Minori, Kohane, An, and Saki have been shown to like women and Rui to like men but is there anything to separate that from sapphic or achillean vs lesbian and gay?

Outside of vbs/wxs interactions with the opposite gender are not very frequent, and it's not like the game ever actually states exclusive attraction either. But let's take Kohane as an example since she's a bit easier to work with given her more frequent interactions with male characters. Kohane is immediately drawn to An in main story, and while not necessarily attraction, she is shown to find An attractive in later events, such as Wishing for Your Happiness. Kohane also finds other female characters attractive, like Shizuku in the aforementioned event, and Haruka in Buddy Funny Spend Time (also referenced in their kizuna title). Kohane has never had similar interactions with any of the male characters (including secondary) despite regular interactions. Even if you want to argue that it's because Haruka and Shizuku are meant to be extremely attractive, Akito, Toya, and Rui are also all canonically attractive. So one could say Kohane is specifically lesbian-coded rather than sapphic. Even for characters like Minori, who very rarely interacts with men, her attraction to women is very emphasised, even in the wedding event she imagines marrying a woman specifically, so she is often considered to be lesbian. Saki/An/Kohane/Minori/etc by definition are all sapphic-coded because it's the all-encompassing term for wlw, the lesbian coding on top of that comes from implication of that same sex attraction being exclusive or not. Obviously gender flipped for achillean/gay coding.
