Tailors started as a silly idea between some friends and yall really like it so i guess its all going here idk how do i run a blog Tailors by Badhoruss, t-tyxfuntime, kill3rturtle, and co. is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-NoDerivs 3.0 Unported License.Based on a work at http://badhoruss.tumblr.com/post/48651386751.

Note
do you have any ideas for characters that you wouldn't mind being fanart-ed
so its p weird you sent this cause i just got my interest back into tailors? i originally decided to stop writing tailors because it felt like a caricature of a dystopian novel with a premise and opinion that i didn’t agree with, but i’ve kinda shifted the direction of the story in my head and im back on track! maybe????
Anyways i spent a few minutes scribbling these up and they are by no means final but here have

eli, the pov character. they are an enby tailor that got assigned to the Arran’s case. They’re only an apprentice, and have a hard time balancing this job as they are part of the President’s posse. They were recruited when they needed to change something for a family memeber’s shirt.
i was going to make their ‘tailor’ uniform (the apron) a different colour to set them apart but then i decided that in this country they probably dont have access to fabrics that aren’t bleached white??? subject to change

god these sketches are getting bad i promise i draw better than this swing by my art blog i promise
anyways these are tobias and stella “ella” arran. They’re a couple that married young but were separated by a war in a neighboring country (where they lived). Wanting to escape this hard war life, they ran away together, and right into the tailors country. They knew the trick to sneaking accross the border was to wear a white shirt with black type printed on it, so they did that, but they had to find a tailor to get them the rest of the way into society.
yes? sort of? all of this is up in the air
ps: i did change tobias and ella’s names around a bit and changed the last name so the old art isn’t accurate! up in the air, as i said.

So Tailors is going to be a story about a place where everyone wears the same white shirt. All clothing is white. And special. Each white shirt is linked to a patch on the person and displays certain statistics about them. The statistics are real-time, and are a government mandate to have. Simply not wearing a shirt is highly illegal and results in the death penalty. The shirts have many functions. They display certain facts about a person on the front, including their IQ, Date of birth, marital status, etc. The back shows less-needed facts such as zodiac, personality quotient, hobbies, place of work, and past employment. The shirts are made out of some future material that displays like a screen. Typically, it’s synced with the Patch and displays stats. However, if a crime is committed (with or without knowing it) the shirt becomes black and lists the crime in red letters. At this point someone will usually see it and call the police. Once reset by an officer, the shirt now shows their crime in the past arrests list. It’s EXTREMELY illegal to remove one’s shirt in public (actually not wearing one at all is illegal, but the shirts dont register removal as a crime, and what one does in private is not necessary on the list).
If the person becomes injured or needs immediate medical attention, the shirt turns red and lists the complications in white letters (may or may not include vitals like heart rate, etc.).
Once a person dies, the shirt turns goldenrod with the cause of death in black on the front.
This is all cool and all, but it means there are no secrets in the world. A teenage girl gets pregnant one night and wakes up to notice ‘pregnant’ listed under health conditions. She can’t hid this forever, as its nearly impossible to remove things from the shirts.
It’s illegal to sell or manufacture fabric for clothing. All clothes are government-run. Shirts must be synced with the Patch upon purchasing, which is done in the store.
That’s where the Tailors come in. A tailor is a type of hacker, able to remove and rewire the Patch, then sew it back onto the person like this:

The Tailors are a group of people who deal in these sort of backally ways, letting people hide things and forge things
ill have a post about the plot and characters later
in the meantime, ask questions about this we like answering them

How is hair length regulated? I mean, you said people are allowed to take the shirts off in private, so could people have longer hair but just tie it up when they go out? Sorry this is really trivial.
It's not exactly regulated, though. It's more of a having x causes y, and y is illegal, so don't do x. If you're caught obscuring statistics in any manner, you can be arrested. It's the common style for everyone to have shorter hair, and yeah anyone who wants long hair MUST keep it up at all times in public, which for some people, really isn't worth the struggle.

So how does the clothing affect military and police personnel? Do they have to wear it, or does it not show their stats, or what?
All personnel have to wear the shirts, however their sleeves and chest have a special symbol added to them depending on the rank/duty.
High-ranking government officials have access to tailors that they hire to keep themselves out of trouble.

What about something like killing someone in self defense? What would your shirt say and how would it know the difference between self defense and murder?
[5/8/2013 5:50:23 PM] Loop Zoop: i wanna say it still rules as murder until they appear before a court?
[5/8/2013 6:01:01 PM] Pablo: dunno
[5/8/2013 6:01:08 PM] Pablo: it is hook up to them after all
[5/8/2013 6:01:19 PM] Pablo: so if they believe it was self defense...
[5/8/2013 6:01:26 PM] Pablo: BUT a court should remain
[5/8/2013 6:01:38 PM] Pablo: because there would need to be one for psycopaths
[5/8/2013 6:02:05 PM] Loop Zoop: well yeah that what i was thinking
also like,not-premeditated murder like
[5/8/2013 6:02:26 PM] Loop Zoop: lets say you were arguing with your boyfriend or something and he's not hurting you per se, but he like grabs your wrist so you stab him
[5/8/2013 6:02:38 PM] Loop Zoop: yeah its premeditated but you were arguing and in posession of a weapon
[5/8/2013 6:02:43 PM] Loop Zoop: blah blah
[5/8/2013 6:02:45 PM] Loop Zoop: court stuff

1984 only with shirts instead of cameras? sounds fun!
On thing I kind of want to stress is that the gov has no direct access to the information. Big Brother isn't the government, every one is big brother. You know everything about everyone, and yet nothing about them as people.

Do the shirts say how much money people have? If so can you use it like a debit card I guess so if you are shopping or getting paid money is transferred to it?
I think we decided that their annual salary would be listed on the back along with place of work but otherwise no, cash and cards and checks are still a thing the community has.
this is one thing subject to change, just with everything else

What about jackets and hoodies? If there is none, then how can a person get warm?
there are many different "styles" of clothing, although all are initially white. All react to the different colouring things (if you get hit by a car and break your legs or something, your pants would also turn red, as well as your jacket, etc.). Anything that obscures stats, however, will then be forced to show the stats themself. If you put on a white hoodie over your white shirt, it would then show the stats that your shirt would show
as an added note, no one really has long hair in this society. It's not necessarily illegal, however you could get cited for hiding stats.

(Kind of) Batch asks #5
So we got quite a few asks and i hit something and they disappeared, and i lost the batch asks post, so I'll just make a post addressing some of the main points in it.
Tailors is going to be a book. Not a video game or visual novel. We shouldn't be needing any help on the production end of it. However, don't let that discourage you from making/showing us fanworks such as art or music. I track '#tailors development'.
The law around whether wearing a shirt or not is unlawful is an interesting law. It's the worst offence in the community to not wear one of the shirts, however it is the hardest to enforce. It's not a crime to remove the shirt in the safety of one's home (say for showing or dressing, or a romantic night home), however it is illegal to not wear one in public. As far as swimming goes, special shirts can be purchased that are basically swimming shirts/rash guards, that display statistics on them like any other.
I may have missed one or two, so if you dont see your question answered within a few days, feel free to resend it!
Also, we love getting anonymous asks as praise, even if we dont answer it all! Thank you all so much!

Batch Asks #4
batch 1| batch 2 | batch 3 | FAQ | Please note, everything is subject to change as we shape the universe it exists in!!! Nothing is set in stone!!!
phantommemories asked you: Hey, I'm looking at your Tailor universe stuff, and it reminded me-- one of my fellow electrical engineering students was talking about an internship he was considering-- a place developing electronic sensors to put in cow's stomachs to monitor their health, so they wouldn't have to chase them all over the place to find out how they were. Basically, the technology is potentially workable, and this sounds like an interesting universe to play with. :) Thanks for sharing it! !!! That's actually really awesome!!! Thank YOU for sharing it!
Anonymous asked you: Curious about two things with Tailors- 1. Is it possible to have the same material but with different clothes? I have a feeling a lot of people in the world would want to diversify their wardrobe in a way. 2. Couldn't the girl just get an abortion?
1. There are other styles of clothing, such as coats, skirts, shorts, different shoes, hats, etc, however any that can include statistics cannot be obstructed. So say, you put on a coat. The stats that would be on the back of your shirt are now displayed on the back of your coat. 2. Here's your answer! in the first response
iliketopretend asked you: How does Tailors deal with mental illness? Society tends to brush away things like depression and anxiety disorders; will the shirts list in heath conditions or will the technology be programmed to ignore them? Does a shirt turn red if someone goes suicidal?
Mental illnesses are labeled on the shirt under health conditions. The suicide thing is interesting and I think I'll have to run it by the others before I make a call on it.
Anonymous asked you: I really love your whole idea for Tailors??? Its really neat and cool??? You're pretty dang awesome for coming up with it??? Way to go??
ahh thank ;v;

batch 1| batch 2 | FAQ | Please note, everything is subject to change as we shape the universe it exists in!!! Nothing is set in stone!!!
walri-in-the-sky asked tailorsdevelopment: So I'm wondering, how are the shirts supposed to know that you committed a crime? Like I can see if the patches are linked to the person then it can tell by hormone and blood levels and stuff if they're pregnant or injured, but how does it tell with certainty that a crime has been committed? Also would it say things like whether a woman was menstruating or not? Or like "This young lady is now of child-bearing age"? Are the wearers mandated to update relationship status and such?
Well I mean there's shirts that can display stuff as a screen and they aren't anything like the primitive ones we have right now and patches that can understand all of this straight from the central nervous system so lets just pretend it has some subconscious surveillance system. And to the second part, I guess it might go under health conditions, but I'm not sure if that'll make it to the final draft of the shirts. Relationship statuses, etc, update in real time based on the quiet workings of your mind. Future technology man it can do anything.
greenteafrappuccino asked you: about your tailors thing, are the people not allowed to take off the shirts for when they have sex?
The law about wearing/not wearing shirts, however important, are fuzzy. Basically, if you take off your shirt, it doesn't turn black. It cant; it isn't connected to the Patch anymore. If you're seen walking around in public without a shirt on, someone will probably call the police, so its only a problem if you have to run errands or something.
childcomedian asked you: Wanna front this with how interesting your idea for The Tailors sounds, I very much look forward to a chance to read that universe's development. My question is, wouldn't not being able to hide things like sexual orientation or religion cause a myriad of problems? Why would the government want to bring such issues into people's daily lives?
The main purpose in doing something like this is the idea of a no-secrets society. Yeah, it does cause a lot of problems. Lots of unrest about things, lots of fights, lots of issues. However! Hate crimes of any sort are considered a criminal offense, and once your shirt turns black, you have to get it deactivated by a cop or a tailor, and tailors are hard to come by sometimes. People usually get brought to justice for any misgivings against another person.
Anonymous asked you: I love the tailors story idea SO much! It got me wondering and I was just thinking of how someone would react if they saw their shirt display them as dead from "murder" or something, but they're still alive. Creeeepy
Interesting in a creepypasta sort of way, however that sort of thing shouldn't happen. Maybe a malfunction in the wiring, where they just have to take it back to the shop and get it resynced or something. If you're dead, you're dead.

batch 1 | FAQ | Please note, everything is subject to change as we shape the universe it exists in!!! Nothing is set in stone!!!
grayeyes-brightskies asked tailorsdevelopment: I really like the idea of your story! My question is, will there be things like addictions people have/had? And when you mentioned the teen girl being pregnant, I couldn't help but wonder, would something like abortion be listed down too, should someone get one?
Good questions! So I asked Ty and KT [the two others involved with this], and we agreed that if someone has an addiction to a harmful substance, it will be listed under health conditions, until they've been clean for three months. At that point it will go away. Any resulting health conditions, such as lung/breathing problems from smoking, etc, would still be listed under conditions, as they are an ongoing problem. A person who is pregnant will be listed as such until they have the child, have it aborted, or miscarry. Abortions wont be listed as a health condition.
drawmeadreambaby asked tailorsdevelopment: I saw that you were planning on making this into a story/maybe a book, but I think you should try collaborating with an artist on Deviantart or Tumblr & making it into something that's either a book that has pictures or a comic type of story. I think that it'd be most interesting that way! A lot of this generation prefer visuals, it would be sure to grab tons of attention!
At this point, I think we'll decline this. We were on a webcomic group, but it flopped terribly. I don't think we'll involve outside artists.
wompod asked tailorsdevelopment: um... so, hi. i am wompod, and i wouldlike to let you know that i would be delighted to help out in any way i can with this, possibly even publishing it if you ever do, because i live near a book-making machine, and it would be easy to publish the first batches using it, maybe. im not asking anything in return, i just want to help out, so if there is anything, ANYTHING, i can ever do, please tell me.
Uhm, at this point I dont' think we'll be needing your services. If it ever comes to pass that we do, maybe, but until then I don't think so. Thanks for the offer though!
automobilefelinemammal asked you: what if someone was trans* in Tailors? would the shirt display both the birth sex and the gender then or how would that go
For me, this is kind of where the idea of a Tailor came from (in my mind). Trans* individuals would seek out a tailor/s to change the display of their sex. The shirts dont differentiate between sex/gender, however, with the touch of a tailor, they can rewire it so that what the individual identifies as is displayed as 'sex'. This also works for genderfluid individuals, as now it is tied to gender, although it is labeled sex.
Anonymous asked you: do the shirts show sexuality?
If they do, its a detail on the back, listed alongside personality traits.

I'll answer asks in groups of four under the cut! If you're tagged, your ask should be in here!
batch 2 | FAQ | Please note, everything is subject to change as we shape the universe it exists in!!! Nothing is set in stone!!!
Anonymous asked tailorsdevelopment: So, is this going to be a story you will write? Or comics?
Probably a story!
thisonenerdychick asked you: Hey so I read your post about that tailors thing you had the idea for and holy crapnuggets I would pay good money to read that book or see that movie.
When i think about it in my head I see it like a movie. Thank you!!
darawb asked you: Hey! So I saw your post about your story, "Tailors." I love the concept, and the technology is incredibly fascinating. I'm actually writing a similar dystopian story, where the government has forced everyone to be implanted with a microchip at the stem of their brain stem. The chip measures brain activity and personal fitness. If it notices a drop in mental stimulation or physical state, it punishes by adding lbs and removing iq points. Imagine both our stories, both techs, in the same place. I just think it would be both horrible and awesome. I can send you what i have of the short story if you'd like. Even if you don't want to do anything, I'd love you're opinion on it and acidaubja dja i just noticed the caption at the top I'm so sorry for sending this to the wrong ask box please forgive me omg QnQ
You're forgiven,,, this time. Uhm, if you want to submit it here or at badhoruss, that would be fine. I'd love to read it, even if we dont do anything with it (which, sorry if its a disappointment, we probably wont. There's a lot of constricting factors that make it so they can't coexist!)
kitsana-d asked you: I'm super intrigued by this! Please keep us posted with developments!
Follow this blog or track #tailors development, if you want to keep up with it!
