takashi tuesday #9
Shiro tipped his head back, the back of the toilet digging into his back uncomfortably. The cold ceramic felt nice on his sweltering skin.
He was suddenly reminded of the melting otter-pop in his hand when he heard a garbled noise from the shower. “Pass me another.” Came from Keith who was sprawled out in the empty tub.
With a groan, he shifted to reach into the sink where the pack of melting pops were. Somehow, sitting on his toilet seat lid, shirtless, while his brother melted in the tub, wasn’t the strangest thing that’s happened all week.
He tossed one into the tub, the smack let him know it probably hit skin. Keith’s half-hearted groan of annoyance only confirmed it.
The increasingly frantic crinkling of plastic caught his attention until a sound of frustration echoed from the tub. He let himself sigh. “Where is Adam?” He murmured, staring at the ceiling of the bathroom.
“Car probably melted.” Keith joked but it fell flat, it was a possibility. Heat in Arizona was nothing to sneeze at. Adam had taken one for the team and went to buy some fans for their rooms. “That’s not funny, Keith.”
There was a quiet thud against the tub, something purple flickering in the corner of his vision. That would be the strangest thing that’s happened all week. Keith had stumbled into his room, in the middle of the night. His voice had been shaking so bad, Shiro was worried he might’ve cut a limb off.
He tilted his head to the side, considering. That might have been better than the fever dream that was Keith holding something in his hands while it squirmed and wiggled. A tail. Keith had sprouted a tail overnight. It still hurt to think about, he wasn’t sure how it was possible but it was attached, and very real. That was 4 days ago and Keith seemed to have moved on fairly quickly. He wasn’t sure what he’d do if it were him but he guessed he’d have a similar reaction. They did some research and nothing came close to whatever he had going on, so all they could do is leave it alone.
He finished off another otter pop. It’s not like they could take him to a doctor, they’d probably experiment on him and Shiro wasn’t taking his chances.
It seemed like Keith wasn’t human or something, but that wouldn’t make sense, it was just impossible. He dropped the wrapper in the trash, leaning forward to finally get up. His thighs stuck uncomfortably to the toilet seat.
Then again, Shiro never believed in the supernatural, not at all. But he’d be lying if he said this didn’t spark some questions, what if–
Keith shot straight up, startling him. “Wh–” “Adam is back.” Was all he said before he was throwing the bathroom door open and going to meet Adam at the door, who wasn’t even parked yet. He has no clue how he knew he was here, he sure as hell didn’t hear him.
That was another thing, his senses were almost.. getting better? Keith claimed he could hear him mouth-breathing through the walls at night.
He rubbed his face, his brain felt like it was frying. He wasn’t sure if it was the phenomenon he was dealing with or the cruel heat.
He made his way into the living room where Adam was inside, crouching by the tv, plugging in one of the fans. Once it roared to life, an audible sigh of relief came from Adam, he dropped down in front of it and Keith sprawled out right next to him.
Shiro couldn’t help but glance at the tail every once in a while, it was so strange and every time he tried to think about it, his head started throbbing all over again.
He groaned out loud and Adam gave him a worried look. “Come cool off, I can see the smoke coming out of your ears.” The man snorted, Shiro felt inclined to agree, his brain probably was cooking.
It was entirely too hot for this.
-- Hey! Sorry for missing last week, a lot happened. The ao3 curse has some for me I fear. I am also sick! So hopefully I can recover and get back to the series by next week. So please enjoy this little oneshot filler for now. The Moon's Furthest Point & The Broganes + Adashi Camp series will be coming back, worry not! Until next week, happy Takashi Tuesday.

takashi tuesday #8
They reached the campsite, and just like Sam said, it was a wasteland. While he preferred neighbors, he knew Keith would like it more if it was just the 3 of them. There were a few tents scattered on the edge of the site but no more than 4.
Satisfied with the spot he picked, he parked the car and turned off the ignition. Then, he twisted over the seat to see if Keith had woken up yet, he was still sound asleep. He couldn’t help but smile fondly, Adam’s hand settled on his bicep, giving him a light squeeze.
Shiro felt his face crumble a bit, he reached up to squeeze his hand back. Adam smiled.
“Now, let’s wake up scruffy back there. I’m not unpacking alone.” He patted him twice, undoing his own seatbelt and getting out of the car. Right, that part..
They had been trying to wake him up for 5 minutes now. Adam, who already didn’t want to be here, was scowling. “We should let him wake up on his own, no one’s going to abduct him while we set up the tent.” Shiro made a face. “Knowing our luck, the second we turn our backs, he’ll wake up and freak out.” He heard the other hum thoughtfully before smiling. “I have an idea.” He grimaced. “I don’t like how you said that.” Adam waved him off, already digging into his bag. His hand emerged with a bag of beef jerky, he waved it and Shiro sighed. “Adam, you were just telling me; Keith isn’t an animal.” Adam’s lip twitched. “Neither are you but you always seem to gravitate towards me whenever I’m eating.” “Ha-ha, I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Shiro was suddenly very interested in the clouds, darkening clouds. He frowned, shading his eyes with his hand as he tried to get a better look. “Do you think it’ll rain?” He tossed over his shoulder, he had moved around to the back of the car. He could hear Adam opening the bag, followed by quieter speaking. Guess it worked. He popped the trunk and Keith emerged from the side of the car. He still looked sleepy, his eyes red at the corners. “Morning sleepyhead.” Keith visibly cringed before making a face, he sniffed the air. Instinctively, Shiro did too. “Smells like rain,” Keith declared. He winced, Adam came into view, arms crossed. “You didn’t check the forecast, did you?” Shiro heard a rumble in the distance. “I..forgot.” He said slowly, like he didn’t believe himself. Keith glanced between the two, eating his jerky quietly. “Takashi.” Okay, maybe this wasn’t going to be as much fun as he initially planned. “Adam.” He repeated back to him sweetly, the man didn’t look amused. “Look, our tent is layered, super sturdy. The wind won’t even bother us!” He added quickly, trying to convince the man before he turned the entire trip around. Before Adam could add his protests, Keith very intelligently added. “Even if the rain doesn’t bother us, we have to sit crammed in a tent all day.” That..was a very good point. “I didn’t think about that.” Shiro rubbed his face with a sigh. Adam had pulled out his phone and was checking the forecast, “It’s estimated to start sprinkling in about 2 hours and by the 3 hour mark it’ll be storming.” He supplied, leaning against the car. It’s already about 1830, turning in for the night by 2000 sounds decent. “We still have 2 hours, we could set up the tent, look around a bit and,,” He trailed off, he was starting to think they should just go back.
“We already came all the way out here, I’d be a waste of gas to go back now.” Keith complained, chewing thoughtfully. “As much as I hate to agree, I think it’d be best if we stayed at least one night.” Shiro paused his picking at his nails and smiled. “Yeah, I guess so.” Though neither of them were listening. “Why do you hate to agree?” Keith snarked. “Because I don’t like the rain, why else?” The teen scoffed, side eyeing him. “Yeah, right.” Adam smirked and continued to tease Keith who seemed like he was considering murder.
It was sweet in a way to watch them bicker, what was less sweet to watch was the storm clouds creeping in over their unsuspecting head.
“As much as I hate to interrupt this beautiful bonding moment, we should really unpack.”
-- Hello folks! Sorry this one is a little later in the day than usual, would you believe me if I said I forgot.. Anyhow, this is a direct continuation of this post! So read this one first for context. As always, Happy Takashi Tuesday!

takashi tuesday #7
“I promise you’ll love it.” Shiro assured as they started up a dirt path.
“The way you described it sounds a lot like camping, so no, I don’t think I will.” His fiance responded, not an ounce of enthusiasm in his tone. Shiro only laughed, rolling his eyes.
“You won't be helping our reputation as nerds if you keep. avoiding the sun like the plague.” He shook his head, feigning disappointment. Adam didn’t seem to care whatsoever. “You’re yet to tell me why I had to be dragged out here too.” They were on an incline, a more than bumpy ride, but the road evened out again as they entered a densely wooded area. “Look, we’re getting close.” He skillfully deflected, or at least attempted to. “Kashi.” Adam said cooly, staring out the window. “He really likes you, Adam! I think it’ll be a positive memory if it’s with people he actually likes being around.” Shiro explained, glancing at a sleeping Keith in his rear view mirror. “He likes you too.”
He tried not to sigh but it felt like this was going to be a fight every time, he always seemed to have something to argue about when it came to Keith. His grip on the steering wheel tightened as his brow furrowed. “I don’t get what the issue is, you’re not this upset about having to camp,” He nervously glanced towards him. “..Are you?” He asked, just in case. Adam made a noise which sounded amused but he was facing away so Shiro could only assume. “No, I don’t care about the trip, Kashi, I’m worried about you.” Shiro could feel where this conversation was going, Adam’s voice was too soft but had an edge to it. Like he was treading on paper thin ice, careful.
As juvenile as it was, he couldn’t help but feel a little offended. He’s not a child, he can handle the full truth without an inch thick sugar coating.
He considered his reaction, maybe that’s why he was treading lightly. “Look, I don’t dislike the kid-” “Keith.” He corrected. Adam softened with a muted sigh, he had turned to face him now. “You know I have nothing against Keith, he’s a child in an extremely unfair situation, of course I feel bad for him.” The edge felt more like a cliff over a canyon now. His stomach clenched uncomfortably at what he knew was coming. “And I think it’s so kind, understanding and patient of you to take him under your wing and all that.” He couldn’t even allow himself to preen at the praise, he felt sick.
“But.” Shiro started for him, sounding slightly wounded. “But.” Adam continued, reaching across the console to place a hand on his forearm, rubbing his thumb across the wispy hairs. “We’re not his parents,” He instinctively glanced into the rearview, Keith was still asleep, a peaceful expression on his face. He looked so young curled up in the backseat, he looked his age and Shiro ached. “I know his foster family isn’t the best.” Adam began. “Not the best doesn’t even begin to scrape the surface.” Shiro laughed dryly.
“I know he’s given the bare necessities, no attention or affection. He has no one to turn to, but this isn’t as simple as taking in some stray you found. Keith is a child, a human child and they’re so much more than letting them stay up past 12 and letting them have ice cream for dinner.”
He knew this, he knew Keith wasn’t a stray cat, no matter how much he acted like one. But Adam’s voice was sickeningly sweet, it was almost nauseating but he knew he wouldn’t hear it any other way. It would be convincing but no convincing was needed, he knew he was right.
“I’m not saying don’t do nice things with him, I think he needs someone like you right now.” He reached up to squeeze his shoulder. “But I don’t want him to get attached to someone who might not be able to stick around.”
Adam leaned over the middle console to kiss Shiro’s temple. “It wouldn’t do either of you any favors."
The rest of the ride up was quiet. -- Hiya folks! Welcome back and welcome to a new series.. I mentioned it last week and here it is. I know this part was a little angsty but it does get more light-hearted, trust! The Moon's Farthest Point is still ongoing and I will be updating both, so don't worry if you're here for that! But please let me know what you think of this. :) See you all next week, and as always: Happy Takashi Tuesday!

takashi-tuesday #6 (2/2) | The Moon's Farthest Point [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]
They were about 12 minutes into a pointless conversation about astronauts when Curtis asked randomly. “Would you ever want to go to space?” The question wasn’t out of nowhere, it’d been the topic of their conversation, but it still caught him off guard. Curtis was idly staring at a book of photographs of one of the first space expeditions.
He wasn’t paying attention so Shiro allowed himself a glance that might’ve lasted a little too long. He wasn’t sure what he was looking for but he noticed more things the longer he looked. He must’ve been staring longer than he thought because Curtis looked up with a questioning look. Shiro dropped his gaze to the book, he wasn’t sure what was up with him today. Curtis didn’t seem to mind the odd silence. “I don’t think I would, I think I like it here on the ground.” Shiro hummed thoughtfully. “I don’t know, maybe? I feel like I’d only go if something really cool was discovered, or if I had something to prove.” He shrugged.
That must’ve been a good answer considering the way Curtis reacted. “Something to prove? Sounds like a line from the book-” He was reaching to his side, clearly trying to get something from his bag.
“What?” Shiro raised a brow, confused by Curtis’ nervous expression. “Really random question.” He brought his fingertips together and made a strange face.
“How mad would you be if I, hypothetically, left my bag in the classroom.” Silence fell over the two.
“You mean the classroom that’s probably locked by now because we had a substitute today and they don't stay after school. You mean that one?” –
“Curtis, this is a bad idea. We should just call a teacher-” Curtis quickly shushed him. “You’re breaking my concentration.” Shiro was unamused. “Seriously, I’m pretty sure this is considered breaking and entering, which is illegal.”
“Yeah, if it’s private property.” Shiro’s headache was a lot more present now. “This is private property, do you even know what you’re talking about!?” He whisper-shouted.
The lock clicked, much to Shiro’s surprise. “Holy sh-.” He quickly covered his mouth and Curtis just grinned and waltzed in. Shiro stood stiff in the doorway. “I have a bad feeling about this.”
Curtis only snorted as he made his way over to his seat. “You sound like a cartoon character.” He paused, and did a circle around his desk. Shiro felt his stomach drop. “No..” Curtis turned to him with a sheepish smile. “I forgot they check the classrooms at the end of the day.”
“Curtis.” The boy leaned against his desk. “..It’s probably in the lost and found.”
Shiro swore he felt a blood vessel in his eye pop. “You’re telling me, you made me an accomplice to your crime just for it to not even be here, you didn’t think; maybe I should check lost and found, not even once!?”
“In my defense, you didn’t think about checking it either.” He replied, way too smooth for someone who should be panicking right about now. “We’re leaving, we could get written up for this!” All whispering was abandoned in Shiro’s stress.
Finally, Curtis made a face of worry, paling as he realized the gravity of the situation. Or so Shiro thought.
A very familiar, an equally exasperated voice came from behind him. “Boys.”
This felt like an appropriate time to go; Oh shit. - After a few minor difficulties, I was able to get this to save, so please forgive any formatting errors. Anyways, hope you enjoyed this week. Until next week, Happy Takashi Tuesday.

takashi-tuesday #6 (1/2) | The Moon's Farthest Point [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]
Shiro isn’t sure how he let Curtis convince him to do something so idiotic and reckless so late in the day, but it was too late to back out as the plan was already in motion. To recap. “Alright, make sure you decide on a topic and gather 3 reliable sources of material before you turn in your outlines. Mr.Owens will touch up more on that with you all. Do not start on your rough draft until your outline has been graded. Class dismissed.” The teacher wrote down a few ending notes on the board. Shiro glanced over at Curtis who managed to fall back asleep, sitting up right. It was almost impressive considering it’s only been 6 minutes. He nudged him with his foot. “Curtis, class is over.” To which he stirred and sat up straighter. “Did I fall back asleep?” He asked, as if he wasn’t just sleeping. “Yeah, somehow.” Shiro said plainly, standing up. Curtis followed suit, standing up with a creaky stretch. Shiro wasn’t even aware he was watching until Curtis’ blue eyes caught his, he didn’t want to look guilty so he casually drifted his gaze to something past him. ‘Didn’t realize he was so..long? Lanky.. Gangly.’ That felt right, he decided silently as he pretended to be interested in the whiteboard.
He must’ve been too obvious because Curtis turned to try and figure out what he was looking at. It accidentally turned into a game of made-you-look since he turned away before he could be interrogated about his staring. But he’s not that slick, or lucky. “What were you looking at?” Curtis blinked hazily at him after his question, he was sleepy, he could make something up. Shiro paused, why was he being so dramatic about this. He looked at his friend, that’s not weird, he didn’t have to lie. “I like your shirt.” He blurted out before thinking, unfortunately for him, Curtis seemed more awake. “..You mean the garrison issued cadet uniform?” He could hear the amusement in his voice, he already dug out the plot, might as well pick the flowers. “..It compliments your eyes.?” “Are you asking me or telling me?” He laughed, Shiro could feel his neck warming up. “Just get your crap so we can go.” He grumbled, swinging his own bag over his shoulder. Curtis, who was intent on poking at the soft spot he’d found, didn’t even bother pushing his chair in. He could practically feel Curtis staring holes into the back of his head. “And you’re just now telling me? What do you think, orange my color?” Shiro could feel a headache stirring in the back of his mind. ‘Why do I have a feeling nothing productive is going to happen?’ –
Hiya! This is up a little earlier than I'd like but I have things to do. Not much to say other than I have another series like this planned, coming up soon, so stay tuned for that.. This one was a little long so I did cut it in half, I don't believe in suspense, part 2 up now. Until next week, Happy Takashi Tuesday.

takashi tuesday #5 | The Moon's Farthest Point (PT.3) [1] [2] [3]
(check the end for notes)
“Rock, paper scissors!” Shiro cupped Curtis’ hand in his. “I win, again.” When Shiro took his hand back, Curtis stared at his fist, he had chosen rock and Shiro took the victory with paper. Curtis scowled at his hand like it personally plotted against him before smiling with a shrug. “Guess I’m just bad at this.” Shiro gave him an incredulous look, “You can’t be bad at rock, paper, scissors.” He pointed at him with his spork. “You can be unlucky or just.. Not that smart, but not bad.” Curtis dramatically stretched and easily slid his arm around Shiro’s shoulders. “I don’t know, there's a first for everything, isn’t there?” Finishing another spoonful of his lunch, Shiro rolled his eyes. “Yes but I don’t think you’re the first, if it’s possible.” Curtis pouted. “You’re so serious.” He was staring at him now, Shiro could feel his eyes boring into the side of his head. “And you’re so-” He shouldered his arm off. “Clingy.” Curtis frowned for a second before snorting and prodding Shiro in the side. To which he flinched violently, Curtis made another noise of humor. “Quit that.” Curtis only leaned closer. “Why? You ticklish, Shirogane?” Shiro would be lying if he said he didn’t consider shoving him off the bench, and he is an honest man.
“No, I just don’t want you poking me.” He decided to be mature but that was all thrown out the window as Curtis scoffed, and without missing a beat, reached onto his tray and stole his last cracker. Which was meant to go with the chili he was eating. Shiro reached for his hand, grabbing his wrist before he could eat it. Curtis recognized the challenge and they silently tugged his hand back and forth, neither speaking a word. Curtis yanked his hand back and shoved the remains of the crumbled cracker into his mouth. Shiro groaned, “For the love of-” The bell rang. Shiro groaned in irritation before collecting his tray, glaring at Curtis as he turned to dump it.
The other boy got from his seat, looking smug while he dusted his crumby hands over the trash. Shiro couldn’t help but scowl at the petty gesture. This wasn’t over. – “We can work at the Library after class to get a headstart on the material.” Shiro suggested, flipping through an especially boring textbook. Curtis’ only addition to the plan was a half hearted-groan. Shiro looked up for the book, frowning at Curtis, who was slumped over, his head resting on his folded arms.
“Are you sleeping?” Shiro flipped his textbook closed, he doubted he’d use it anymore today, his eyes were getting tired. “I’m resting my eyes.” He yawned, blinking hazily at him. Shiro resisted the urge to roll his eyes. Yeah, he was knocked out. “Did you hear what I said?” Shiro asked, crossing his arms. Curtis’ eyes fluttered closed against briefly, he exhaled tiredly before forcing himself upright. “Do you want an honest answer or a nice one?” He murmured, rubbing the sleep from his eyes. Undeniably amused, Shiro bit back a snort. He cleared his throat before hardening his expression. “How late were you up last night?” He shrugged, yawning again. His brow furrowed at the half-answer. “You’re lucky it’s Friday, you look like you’re gonna fall over.” He admitted, moving to collect his papers into a neat stack. “I asked if you wanted to meet at the Library after class so we can go ahead and get started on our research.” He repeated, lifting his bag into his lap to store his supplies. Curtis seemed to mull over it for a second. “Today?” He asked through a third yawn. “Yeah, when else?” He finished zipping his back closed and slung the strap over his shoulder, giving Curtis a bemused look. “No time like the present I guess, I have to text my grandma though.” Shiro didn’t ask why but he’s assuming his face gave away his curiosity because Curtis continued.
“I have track after school.” He explained, Shiro made an ‘o’ with his mouth. “We can pick a different time, don’t wanna disrupt your uh, grind or whatever.” He smiled, Curtis snorted at him. “Grind?” He asked from behind his hand. Doubling down, Shiro crossed his arms. “Yes.” The bluntness must’ve been amusing because the other boy burst out laughing, which earned him a look from the substitute. “Nah, it’s okay. I’ve been looking for a reason to skip it anyway.” He shrugged, leaning back in his seat. Shiro wanted to say more but decided he’d say something if it really bothered him that much. “Alright, let me know if you change your mind.” Shiro said in finality, just barely missing the look Curtis was giving him. “What?” Curtis, who was leaning forward on his palm, only blinked slowly and smiled. “Nothing, just spacing out.” Shiro subconsciously rubbed the bridge of his nose, Weird. ––

takashi tuesday #3 | The Moon's Farthest Point (PT.2) [1] [2] [3]
Curtis was friendly, nonchalant and extraordinarily sarcastic. If Shiro had to put him under a label, it'd be chaotic neutral. He liked to think of himself as lawful good, he was a well-behaved, polite, straight A student. Mr. Owens said that he was a good kid and to be mindful of who he hung around, he assumed he didn’t mean Curtis but he’s starting to reconsider. Shiro was trying to focus on the lesson but the incessant tapping of the other boy’s pen was driving him insane. Curtis had his head down, resting on his folded arms, watching the pen he twirled and flicked between his fingers. He must be psychic because when Shiro glanced over, his blue eyes flickered up to catch his gaze. He quickly looked away but Curtis snorted quietly, ducking into his arm to muffle the noise. Shiro decided he should mind his business but the nudging of his leg drew his attention away from the board again. “Psst.” He heard from beside him. Shiro considered ignoring it but caved and turned “What?” He whispered back, only to be met with a note being slid into his arm. Trying not to look irritated, he collected it and discreetly unfolded the sticky-note. Which proved somehow difficult as the corners clung to each other because of the adhesive. He suppressed a scoff, he could have written this on a note card. He thought offhandedly, leaning down to read the tiny writing. ‘Is that eyeliner?’ Shiro was only confused for a second before it registered. He stiffened and stared at the note for a second, out of the corner of his eye he could see Curtis’ confused face. Before he could write a response, Curtis’ hand came into view and he scribbled something else onto the sticky note. ‘It’s cool don’t worry’ The writing was sloppy but he blamed it on the angle.  Shiro wrote back, ‘Yes’ Under his first question before hesitantly adding. ‘You think so?’ Curtis read it over with a small smile on his lips. ‘Yeah makes you look like one of those stage idols’ Shiro’s reply somehow captured his deadpan expression. ‘Like kpop idols?’ Curtis laughed out loud at this, Mr. Owens gave the two a suspicious look. They both looked suddenly interested in the ceiling and flooring.
Once he returned to his lesson, they both laughed, silently this time. ‘No like the American ones that try too hard’ Shiro gave him a flat look. ‘Wow thanks’ Curtis crossed out half of the sentence and rewrote ‘that look all flashy and cool’ Shiro stared for a second before Curtis leaned over. “That better?” Shiro rolled his eyes, peeling the sticky note off his desk, “Yes, thank you.”
Curtis laughed again, something Shiro found himself enjoying a lot. He was just so easy going, nothing seemed to bother him. He’d be lying if he didn’t wish he could laugh everything off like that. “Someones-” “Not paying attention.” Mr. Owens said from over their shoulders. Curtis barely flinched meanwhile Shiro had knocked his knees against his desk when he startled. “Sorry, teach.” Mr. Owens gave an unamused look in Curtis’ direction, who didn’t look sorry in the slightest. “I’m glad you’re making friends, but let’s try to pay attention to the less, you two.” He gave them both a stern look. “Sorry, Mr. Owens.” Shiro rubbed his knee, dipping his head. “It’s alright, Shiro, just make sure you know what you’re doing for your project.” He said, tapping the paper on his desk, he entirely missed them being passed out. “Right.” He said quietly. Once he returned to the front of the room, he frantically turned to Curtis who was already learned in. They nearly collided at the forehead before Shiro leaned back. “Uh-” “You want to be partners?” This surprised Shiro, he made a bemused expression. “It’s a partner project?” Curtis sat back in his seat a little more. “Wow, you didn’t hear anything.” “You were distracting me!” He said defensively. Curtis grinned and waved him off. “Excuses, excuses.” “Boys.” Mr. Owens pinched the bridge of his nose. Curtis did look somewhat apologetic. Shiro felt his face get warm and he decided he should probably ask for another seat if he wanted to make it through this semester with anything higher than a 60%. -- This is a direct continuation of this post, it can be read as a standalone but their introduction is over there, so its encouraged to read that first. Thanks for tuning in, See you guys next week, As always, Happy Takashi Tuesday!
