What would the higher beings, or any other of the bugs, think about witnessing their ct sleepwalking? or otherwise speaking or reacting emotionally in their sleep?
Would probably think that that humans have strong enough dreams that they seep into the waking world like this

(Bug tank AU) What if the Hunter isn't even a bug? What if it's a cat. the troublesome black cat that used to try to hunt all the bugs, but now has calmed down and will just curl up by the tank and scare them occasionally for fun.
god forbid the 3 am zoomies
either way The Hunter will give you a kill or two if he really likes you

Assume a world where ct/all humans are immune to magic, or Hallownest's high concentration of higher beings makes ordinary things more magical. Either will work. Now suppose ct drops their charm bracelet into the bug tank, and the jewelry starts behaving like actual charms.
honestly, humans that most, if any, don’t actively use magic but are so big and willful that they are bursting at the seams with soul energy.
the i teams they care for greatly, ones with true sentimental value, do hold magical properties, most just are too minor to even effect the humans and are to big more a big to use.
but a human loosing a small charm on their charm bracelet, it simply dropping off because they’ve worn and loved it for so long? it’s be small enough for a big to use and depending on the sentiments behind it i think could be comparable to the king soul

Yep here I'am again, this time with a bit different question than usual... or not cause it's about a human withstanding something that wants to control it... or maybe not... well it doesn't matter my question is simple: Does ct get affected by the void sometimes? Or well does even the void have some interest in controling ct? Ye, all of that talk for this but well...
TLDR: Since the void isn't a being of the mind, would probably have little interest or ability to outright control bugs, much less a big ol' human.
Since the void isn't a unified being I don't think the void would be able to control something. The closest we see in game would be the bugs in/near ancient basin. There is the bug in the light house who when dream nailed says "...Turn it off?... Cannot... My King. I'm sorry... The sea calls." It doesn't feel like the full control that Radiance has. Decently close with this guy, they end up unable to resist the calling from the sea to turn it off, but there is still a level of control. Mix this in with the bugs near the fountain with void streaks down their eyes that all pretty much just beg for the return of the King and I only bugs with heavy void exposure would start hearing the 'call of the void'.
So what does this mean for a human CT? Well, assuming you're taking care of and coming into regular contact with some of the void beings (ie, the siblings, king of shades, or collector) then you might be dealing with some heavier exposure.
Still, unless you were coming into contact in areas like your eyes, mouth, or wounds, any exposure would mostly be topical. The void seems to drain the color out of anything it touches and stains it. It also of course causes some damage to anything that isn't apart of or united with the void. For the sake of this au void beings aren't hostile towards CT, or at least grow to like CT and don't purposefully lash out and 'cause extra harm. Their hand would still feel funky and weird if they just stuck it in ancient basin though.
I think CT would have to worry less about having an entity invade their mind since the void isn't an entity of the mind, and more so about how being to touchy with their lil guys could damage their skin a bit. Maybe if something happens they could feel a bit faint or ill, maybe if a long time passes they could feel a kind of pulling to do something for their void bugs. It would in general be much less extreme for them

OK since you responded to what would happen in case that the Radiance entered a human mind I have another question...
Since the Radiance would be on ct or your dreams and ct or you were lucid dreaming could ct or you manipulate the dream to make Radiance smaller? (For example) Or Radiance is unaffected by the dream itself? And if its a yes... Grimm can be affected either or not?
I need to know this since if its the response what I'm expecting, then I will know what to put in 1 of my chapters xd
Since they are entirely different beings and not things created by your mind I don't think you'd be able to change them. No changing their size or turning them to mice or anything like that.
If you're clever you could change the scale of the dream. Your mind is creating the world your dreaming so why wouldn't you be able to make yourself or everything a bit bigger so she's smaller in comparison. Course, that would take pretty good control which not everyone has in their lucid dreams.
And for Grimm, I didn't really touch on him on the infection post but I think it would still be pretty similar. You wouldn't be able to alter him in anyway and instead of being more light sensitive I think you would be more likely to overheat (cause the whole fire thing and all). Grimm probably wouldn't as forceful in trying to invade though so any symptoms you do experience wouldn't be as bad as with the Radiance.

i wanna know the human infection headcanons pls give them-
Okay, this is gonna be a lil deranged, messy, and long so I'm putting it under a read more.
It would probably start out decently normal. You just got this weird lookin moth from a friend who just 'found it while digging a hole in the woods' (or other equally weird and sketchy means). You had a weird dream of it like talking to you or something. You can't really remember what happened in the dream but you knew it was just weird. Maybe you are suspicious of the Radiance at that point, but it's such a minor thing most would just brush it off and move on with a new story to tell at the most.
If you were a bug, these dreams would keep happening, getting clearer and more invasive as she takes control. You aren't a bug though, you're human. You're a creature so much larger, born with a mind so alien and different than what she knows. Conscious or not your mind is able to defend itself.
At that point you'd get some minor headaches. Annoying as hell, but just take an advil or something and you're fine. You have a couple restless nights here or there but you could easily pass it off as some stress making it harder to sleep. Humans already have so many external aids that any symptoms they do experience could be easily ignored or treated. It may just come off as a head cold if it got to bad but your mind would adjust and she wouldn't be physically able to do any real damage. If you ended up getting sick though, it would open a huge door for her. Suddenly your body is weakened enough that you stay home and sleep, giving these wide swaths of time to try and wiggle into your mind at a much weaker state. A thick fog is already clouding your head, your head is already exhausted just existing, and your body is focusing on healing any damage the sickness is doing rather than beefing up your mental defenses.
Suddenly you're having dreams, literal fever dreams all of that weird moth you got. They shift and change back and forth as your subconscious and her are having a tug-a-war with you stuck in the middle doing everything you can to just hold on. Sometimes you wake up gasping in a pool of your own sweat. Everything is bright and heavy, you have to rush to the bathroom to empty your stomach in the toilet.
It's horrid as both your body and mind are both sick and making each other hurt all the more. Hopefully you have a friend or someone to take care of you or you are stuck riding it out on your own. It never gets to a hospital level (unless you have other conditions that would make all of it even worse) but it definitely goes down as one of the sickest times you've ever been.
The thing is some of the symptoms never really leave. Things still seem too bright sometimes, and the weird dreams don't quite stop. They aren't as chaotic as before, but you keep seeing the moth in your dreams. At some point you end up having a lucid dream that's so much more stable as the others. you're able to sit and talk with her and... Well, as a human you have a lot more choice than the average bug. Finally conscious of what is going on, you would have full control of the dream. You could finally banish her from your head and yeet the actual radiance into the world (or pass her off onto someone else), or you could form some kind of symbiotic relationship with her. Or maybe you get tricked by this entity that has a lot more knowledge of the situation and accentually trap yourself in some horrid situation with few ways to actually escape
Really depends on what you do next and how you go about it.

I imagine grimchild escaping from their tank to swim in warm coffee so then CT finds a bug in their coffe and are like " Here we go again. " and tries to fish grimchild out
I’m just imaging CT taking to using lidded cups and stuff and they thing their safe, completely forgetting that Grimmchild can teleport
It is an experience to realize that you have a little bug swimming in your mouth when you’re barely half awake

ct has a black cat that keeps on trying to chase the bugs, how do they react the first time?
Most would probably try running or hiding but quite a few would turn and fight.
Maybe a good idea to keep them separated or you may need to make a trip to the vet.

Hello, I stumbled upon this blog not long ago and I want to say that I've been fascinated by all the ideas and things that are discussed, in fact I'm even making a story (which is not about this AU for now) but well leaving the talking this is my question:
Considering that our dreams are being controlled by our subconscious, could it take Grimm or Radiance as a threat if they enter your dream? And if that were to happen, how do you think it would be? Would the subconscious be creating creatures and strange things to attack them or would it use you to wipe them out? or both?
I mean, probably. Grimm and Radiance are both foreign beings, your mind would probably want to force them out as quick as possible unless you actively knew what was going on and were okay with it.
Of course, they are used to this. Many nightmares start out as dreams for a reason after all. Blend in and conceal yourself in the normal dreams and/or nightmares before making yourself known.
After that my first thought is you mind acting kinda like how your body reacts to illness. Dreams and nightmares are indistinguishable as it does everything it can to push out the invading threat. Sure, this could be in the form of attacking being, but could also be in the form of making the environment uninhabitable, like when you get a temperature because you have the flu or something.
And I guess where I’m going with this (on accident) is that you would get infected. I could go on with my head canons (and if anyone is curious I could totally make a whole post on how I think the infection would look like in a human going down this train of thought) but at the very least I think you wouldn’t be able to sleep as easily and you would have some wack dreams till they left you alone.

currently thinking about how funny yet terrifying it'd be if ct had a younger family member or kid they babysat that is smitten with nosk.
ct and a lot of the bugs dont touch nosk much bc they prefer being alone but one day ct comes into a room just to see nosk casually sitting on the childs head. the child is feeding them popcorn or snthn. ct doesnt know whether to be touched or terrified
I'm imagining CT having to babysit this very angry and angsty 12-year-old (who is very angry they even need a baby sitter, they're almost in high school come on).
Nosk tries to freak them out but creepy stuff is right up this kid's ally so they just pull Nosk out of the tank and start feeding it candy the kid isn't even supposed to have.
CT only allows Nosk Time™ when all of the kid's homework is done.

I saw a post about an anime protagonist with bright colored hair dying it black to hid in the crowd and now I'm thinking what if the CT has like, green hair but dyes it black. When the Hunter asks why they do it despite the green helped them hide in between bushes, CT answers that in the city you don't hide in the bushes. Now the Hunter doesn't know if the CT does it because they're hiding from predators or are they looking for prey instead
God I love the idea of the Hunter just watching everything through the lens of haunting and CT jut never confirming or denying if that's what they ever do. Just
"Why are you cutting your nails? Wouldn't having them long and sharp be better for attacking?" "I don't kill things with my nails, they're too fragile for that."
"Then what do you kill with? Your teeth are far to dull for that either."
"My looks are usually enough to stop most things in their tracks."
"No wonder you have such strange grooming habits."
#and CT is just like 'HEY I'M NOT THAT WEIRD'#hollow knight#the hunter#hollow knight hunter#bug tank au
