I see some people are mad that Ashton was being “an ass” in the 5SOS answers the internet video so here’s my take on it.
He’s probably tired of this kind of “interviews”. He’s 25. He, and most likely all the other three as well, has grown out of it.
He wants to talk about his craft and it seems like the media only want content to please the stans so they can make some revenue off of funny shallow content that has nothing to do with 5SOS music.
That ASMR thing? I don’t know what was the point of that. Yeah, it was funny, but we can clearly see it was funny because they were uncomfortable and bottom line is that them being uncomfortable shouldn’t be funny. Ashton probably, and I should put emphasis on probably because I don’t know what happened, refused to do it, and I respect that.
The video of them reading stan Twitter rhetorical questions was on the same boat as that. What was the point of it? What did it teach us or informed us on what’s going on in their minds about their music? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. It’s basically a video that serves to accommodate the Twitter fandom and for the publisher to make some money off of 5SOS’ image and the fangirl’s love. Nothing else.
Ashton could have been having a bad day, yes, but my bet is that he’s totally tired with these types of promos and, man, I gotta give it to him. I see people saying he should have toned it down. Yeah, okay. Maybe he should have. Or maybe you should put yourselves in his place, for once. A 25-year-old man who has grown out of that phase in his life having to participate in that sort of content isn’t, in the least, ideal. We all know he’s sarcastic as fuck. If you see a very sarcastic person in a bad day you know the sarcasm and the attitude skyrockets, and I’m speaking with experience about this because I’m one of those people.
Yes, Ashton is a ray of sunshine and a very caring human being, but he’s not obliged to be that 24/7. You can call it lack of professionalism. I call it being fed up. You can be the most professional person in the world, but there’s a limit. He wants 5SOS to move forward, but it seems like the media and a part of the fandom are stuck in a 2015 mentality. I’d let my sarcasm loose too, if I were in his place.
Every time he gets to speak about how important this new era of 5SOS is, I see his face light up. He just wants to talk about the music and about what inspires them, but, then again, whenever he talks about the music and how it’s shifting and how important that shift is for the band, some of you get mad at him saying he’s being unnecessarily too deep and that he should tone it down.
At this point, I don’t know what you all want from him, to be honest. Do you just want him to be smiley and funny for your viewing pleasure, or do you want him to speak his mind and be true to himself?
