I might delete this eventually, because I really try to keep this account free of too much personal stuff. But yesterday my alma mater, the most loving place I’ve ever called home, was the site of a mass shooting. My heart is breaking for all the students and faculty there, who should never have to feel fear of that kind—especially not in the classroom. While I’m no longer there, so many people I love—family, friends, and mentors—still are and I can’t stop thinking about what they’ve had to endure. I just wanted to post this as a reminder to you all to hold your friends and family extra close these days. Check in on and care for one another <3

The suspected gunman in a deadly Florida State University mass shooting was kicked out of a political debate club for pushing white supremacist views. Phoenix Ikner, 20, allegedly used one of his stepmother's guns to kill two people and wound five others in a shooting near the student union on campus in Tallahassee, and court records show he had a tumultuous childhood while a former classmate told NBC News that he expressed right-wing extremist views in a "political round table" club. "He does have an interesting history," said CNN chief law enforcement analyst John Miller. "We know from court records that CNN unearthed yesterday that he was the subject of a domestic kidnaping incident when he was a child. His biological mother took him out of the country. There was a court fight to get custody back to him. He was brought back to the United States and his adoptive or stepmom, the deputy sheriff, has had him since, and as the sheriff pointed out, he's kind of been enveloped in the law enforcement, extended family." [...] A former classmate at both Tallahassee State College and Florida State said Ikner was part of MAGA influencer Charlie Kirk's Turning Point USA chapter at the community college, while voter records show he is a registered Republican, and he described how Ikner's views got him kicked out of a club he led. "Basically our only rule was no Nazis — colloquially speaking — and he espoused so much white supremacist rhetoric, and far-right rhetoric, as well, to the point where we had to exercise that rule," said Reid Seybold, who was president of that club at Tallahassee State College. Son of a sheriff. On the fucking sheriff youth advisory council. White supremacist. Used his sheriff mom’s gun. There are kids who survived Parkland at that school. If my friend had gotten the emergency alert five minutes later he would’ve been at the site of the shooting. His roommate was there and my friend couldn’t get ahold of him for hours. People left their phones behind at the site of the shooting and their friends and family who they had shared their location with thought they were dead. Fuck. This.

I've been going through and blocking a bunch of true crime fan accounts for the past few minutes, and it didn't take long to find one with 14/88 in the username and a confederate flag header. a lot of them seem to really like the r-slur too. ugh

I actually fucking hate tumblr so much. Searched up FSU related tags to see if anyone has posted yet on here about the shooting today or if there any FSU students specifically with more info about what happened or anything I can reblog to raise awareness for my non-floridian followers or just anything at all related to today in general. And instead I get fucking True Crime Community posts fucking thirsting over the shooter and posting screenshots of his Instagram account. Not enough words in the English language to describe how fucking sickening that is.

for those who were aware and those who weren’t, i go to florida state university and was on campus when the spree shooting happened. i am safely off, was about a ten minute walk away from the building where it happened. stayed in lockdown for about 3 hours, evacuated safely now and will return home later when i’m feeling up to it.

gun reform now or fucking never.

If any of my followers go to Florida State Univeristy, I'm sure you're aware of the ongoing active shooter situation. If you are on campus please stay secured until the all clear has been given. Do not open the doors to let anyone in. There are multiple shooters. The city is shutting down, cops and fire emergency services and helicopters are on the way to assess and assist. If you live in Tallahassee, stay off the roads - ambulances and cops need the roads clear as they arrive on scene.

I live in Tallahassee, and if you need help, I will help you. Get in touch with me if you need someone to pick you up from your location or after the campus is deemed safe to open, to get somewhere safe, to connect you with people to let them know you are safe, if you need a shoulder to cry on. Fucking anything. Campus is shut down but I can help from the outside for anyone who can't leave the general area, like those who ran off campus to the nearby streets.

I was a student when the strozier library shooting happened. Unfortunately that's not the only school shooting I've been in. I'm not a certified trauma therapist but I understand what you're going through and I want to help in any way I can. Please heed all security protocols as they come in, and remember to prioritize your safety first. If you just want to message me to release your grief, that's fine too.
