doctor! ushijima x doctor! reader

so it’s been about a month since the two mushroom head’s playdate

the two successful doctors are still clueless to each other’s feelings

the nurses still unsuccessful in relaying the message to their respective doctor

countless plans made only fail due to the doctors’ stupidity and continuous denial

I cannot count on my fingers how many plans have failed

planning between the nurse trio goes something like this

“what if we just lock them in the storage closet together and give them an ultimatum?” -tendou

“what kind of ultimatum?” -semi

“we won’t let you out until you guys bang in the storage closet” -tendou

“tendou-san, pls keep it PG. I don’t know if you've noticed but we work in a fucking kid’s department” -kawanishi

“you act like you don’t curse all the time in the kid’s department. you just did and you didn’t even notice” -semi

as you can clearly see, they are getting nowhere

gives me more second hand embarrassment than hinata sneaking into the shiratorizawa training

all that aside, shirabu’s lesson continued with the addition of goshiki joining in to learn from his idol

their plan you ask? well keep reading to find out

it started with goshiki begging his mom to teach him how to use the computer and evolved to goshiki desperately filling up y/n’s emails with messages unrelated to his health

here is a compilation of embarrassing goshiki emails 

dr. y/l/n pls come join me at volleyball lessons, what if I need a medic

dr. y/l/n, pls come to volleyball lessons and meet my friend shirabu. he’s a fan of your healing powers

dr. y/l/n pls come to lessons, ushijima-san is scaring me

you get the point I'm pretty sure because in any world, goshiki would NEVER be scared of ushijima

only pure admiration and love

so anyways, goshiki and shirabu realized emails won't work and decided to resort to plan b

one afternoon, the two best friends had a lesson with ushijima 

and it was a longer lesson considering ushijima had a day off today

thus, the kids put their plan into actions (unfortunately as a last resort)

it had been about two hours into the lesson when shirabu pulled goshiki to the side during a water break

“goshiki it is time. I've come to realize dr. y/l/n will only come if a serious injury occurs” shirabu informs goshiki

“oh great how are we gonna do that?” goshiki questions

“say less” shirabu says

walking about five feet away from gosiki, shirabu then chucks the volleyball straight at goshiki’s face, causing the poor boy to fall over due to force

ushijima heard the smack of the volleyball and turn in time to catch goshiki before he hit the ground

goshiki begins to tear up and sob loudly

“shirabu, why would you throw the volleyball at goshiki like that?” ushijima scolded the child

while normally that would make shirabu pee his pants from fright he had to pull himself together

for ushijima’s love life :)

“I wanted to practice spiking but I didn’t aim well and accidentally hit goshiki” shirabu replied throwing in a fake look of distress 

ushijima begins checking goshiki’s body while goshiki looks over ushijima’s shoulder to glare at shirabu as if saying “really that was your ingenious plan?”

shirabu gives him a look back telling him “you’re ruining it, stick with the plan”

goshiki begins bursting into tears and clinging to ushijima, screaming about how much pain he’s in

“it’s alright, let me see your forehead” ushijima tries to comfort the crying child

“no, I only want dr. y/l/n. I only trust her to heal me” goshiki says thrashing back and forth

ushijima seeing goshiki being relentless pulled out his phone to call his coworker

at the hospital y/n his rubbing her forehead having to deal with the nurse trio

even though today is tendou’s day off, he decided to come in to be “comedic relief” for the doctor and her assigned nurses

and by that I mean he’s just there to join the other two nurses in convincing y/n to confess to ushijima already

while they kept going back and forth the the matter that’s been plaguing them for months, y/n’s phone goes off

she takes it out of her pocket and sees an off guard picture of ushijima plastered on the screen 

y/n looks to the nurse trio who are all wiggling their eyebrows at her

with tendou screaming “nows your chance, go forth my child”

she glares at the three nurses and presses the answer button

“hi ushijima, is everything okay?” y/n speaks into the phone

the nurse trio shoving her chair repeatedly, telling her to put the phone on speaker

y/n refuses obviously as she begins waving her arms in different directions to shut them up

“during our volleyball lesson, goshiki was hit in the head with a volleyball and wants to see you” ushijima explains

“aww poor baby! not to be rude, but couldn’t you check out his forehead to see what’s wrong?” y/n questioned

ushijima in a deadpan voice replied, “he refused”

“wow that’s first, okay I’m on my way to the park” y/n responds

“no need, we’ll come to the office since you’re still on the clock” ushijima asserts

“okay, let me know when you get to the clinic” y/n responds

hearing a quiet mhmm from ushijima, y/n hangs up the phone and begins typing furiously on her computer

“kawanishi, semi, get an examination room ready please? there’s an emergency checkup we have to conduct” y/n orders

her two nurses salute to her while walking out the door

tendou following suit as he has nothing better to do

“ushijima is coming into the office on his day off, this could be our chance” tendou tells the two nurses 

“well any ideas?” semi asks

“when he gets here, we can trap them in the examination room and force them to confess each other” tendou suggests

“uh I don't know if you were paying attention when y/n was on the phone but we kind of have AN INJURED PATIENT COMING IN” kawanishi shuts down the idea

“some sacrifice have to be made, it sucks but the little kid will be a martyr for his actions in putting an end to the this pain of oblivious doctors we’ve endured for too long” tendou says while putting his hands in a prayer position

“TENDOU WE ARE NOT SACRIFICING A CHILD” semi and kawanishi exclaims

the older nurse hitting the red haired male in the back of the head 

“I can see you guys really don’t care for the doctors to get together” tendou mumbles as they enter the examination room and prepare it for the child coming in

“we do, but not at the expense of a child’s life. look around you tendou, we literally work to save kids not send them off to die” semi lectures with kawanishi nodding in agreement

after preparing the room, the nurse trio walks back to the office area to inform y/n that the room is ready

soon enough, the injured goshiki, shirabu, and ushijima walk into the clinic

goshiki starts to believe getting hit in the head is a little more worth it now that his idol is carrying him 

it’s a real dream come true for the mushroom head

ushijima sees semi and kawanishi near the entrance of the pediatrics center

“hello dr. ushijima, goshiki will be in room seven where y/n will see him shortly” semi informs the male doctor

ushijima nods and carries goshiki to the assigned room with shirabu trailing behind him, with a mischievous smirk on his face

as they make it into the room, ushijima leaves the two children with y/n’s assigned nurses

“wait ushijima, please stay with me, your presence gives me comfort” goshiki whines, clinging onto the doctor’s arm

“I’ll be right back, I’m going to get dr. y/l/n” ushijima says making his way to the door, leaving the two children and nurse duo in the room

tendou is currently in the cubicle whining to y/n to confess for those wondering where he is

“this plan is going so slow, I’m losing hope” shirabu says sitting on the chair 

his feet dangling off the ground, arms crossed, bottom lip out in a pout

“this plan better not fail, I did not take a volleyball in the face for nothing my guy” goshiki complains

the two nurses couldn’t help but overhear and approaches the kids

“what is this plan you guys are talking about?” semi interrupted the kid’s chatter 

the two kiddos freeze in their spot and turn around, frightened by the tall nurse duo

“no need to worry about it, it’s not important” shirabu said

but at the same time goshiki spilled the beans

“a plan to get dr. y/l/n and ushijima together” goshiki blurts out

“crackers goshiki, just because he asks you doesn’t mean you have to answer him” shirabu facepalms leaving a red mark on his forehead

obviously not as red as the mark goshiki is sporting after taking a volleyball to the face

“we want in” kawanishi responds quickly

“yeah, what do you need us to do because we will literally do it. please end our suffering” semi adds on

“wait, you’re not mad?” shirabu asks

“heck no, we’ve been trying to get them together for god knows how long. we’re tired of the agony that is these two doctors being oblivious” kawanishi responds

“I don’t think we need help right now, right shirabu?” goshiki asks

“to be honest, I didn’t think we’d get this far but we’ll come up with something” shirabu replies

“wait, you didn’t plan the whole thing?” semi whisper yells

“I didn’t think ushijima would buy goshiki’s lame excuse to go see dr. y/l/n cut me some slack” shirabu whisper yells back

“I vote we just shove them into each other” kawanishi puts out

“I have an idea” goshiki said looking down at his feet

they all look at goshiki as he explains what his big plan is

meanwhile ushijima, y/n, and tendou make their way into the room

“okay my nurses, can you set up a different room while I look at goshiki?” y/n asks

kawanishi and semi grumble about missing the plan as they walk out the room, dragging tendou with them to fill him in on the plan about to take place

“well, I’ll wait in the waiting room for you to be done” ushijima says walking towards the door

“wait, please stay with me ushijima-san, my mom isn’t here with me and doctor visits make me nervous” goshiki said fiddling with his fingers while pouting

ushijima buying the cute boy’s pout nodded and made his way to goshiki who held out his little hand for the bigger man to hold

y/n then approached the two to examine goshiki’s head

for those wondering about shirabu, he’s sitting on the examination table with goshiki, waiting patiently for the plan to execute

“he’ll just have a bruise on his head, he isn’t concussed that's a plus” y/n asserts 

“can you check my head again, it hurts a little extra” goshiki says in babie

y/n nods and goes to check his head again while shirabu stands on the examination table

before ushijima can scold him about how unsafe it is, shirabu shoves the male doctor’s head down causing it to collide with y/n

the two doctors begin groaning in pain

“ushijima-san, are you alright? what happened?” y/n asks while rubbing her head

ushijima looks over at shirabu about to tell y/n the truth 

however, shirabu has already sat himself down, putting on an innocent act as he stares around at the health poster in the room

“uh I wanted to check on goshiki, I guess I wasn’t paying attention to my surroundings. sorry y/l/n” ushijima answers

“I see” y/n responds before going back to examine goshiki’s head

“everything looks okay goshiki, did you want to call your mom to pick you up?” y/n asks

goshiki shakes his head while glaring at shirabu as if telling him, “your plan sucked we should've gone with mine” 

shirabu glares back relaying the message “okay, go with yours then. it’s the last resort anyways”

goshiki takes a deep breath before responding to y/n

“sounds good, ushijima-san may I borrow your phone to call my mom please?” goshiki asks politely

ushijima nods and hands his phone to goshiki

as goshiki unlocks the phone he sees the same lockscreen he has seen every volleyball lesson

“ushijima-san, why is dr. y/l/n your background?” goshiki asks, feigning cluelessness 

ushijima’s eyes widen in realization and both doctors begin to fluster 

y/n looks at ushijima’s phone which goshiki had turned on to see a picture of her off guard 

she recognized it from the one time ushijima and her got called into a night shift and went out for coffee during break

“why am I your lock screen ushijima?” y/n asks while tilting her head to the side

ushijima realizing the predicament goshiki had put him in decided to come clean

“I've had feelings for you for awhile now. it pains me when I don’t get to see you on days off or when I get off a shift I share with you. I guess unlocking my phone to your beautiful face made me even more joyful” ushijima explains

y/n’s heart begins to palpitate as they fluster even more

“I feel the same way ushijima-san” y/n smiles

“would you like to go on a date with me whenever you’re free” ushijima asks.

“I’d love to, please give me an hour after my shift to freshen up” y/n responds filled with giddy

“sounds good” ushijima says with a smile on his face as he goes in for a hug

the two toddler sitting on the examination table look at each other and high five

goshiki obviously took the time to brag

“wow my plan worked better than yours, looks like I'm the brains between us too” goshiki says looking smug

think of that one scene during season four where he clears his throat and is like “I believe it is my turn

shirabu sticks his tongue out at goshiki

as the kids are having their own moment, they decided to look up at the two doctors which was a poor choice

in the small span of the toddlers’ moments, the doctors shared a loving gaze and must have began leaning in

because when the kiddos looked up, they saw that the doctors share a kiss that was a lingering on too long

“AHHHHH COOTIES!!!” the two toddlers screamed while reaching towards each other to cover their friends’ eyes

the two doctors break apart, completely forgetting the children were in the room 

they began to kneel down and apologize multiple times for scaring the children

suddenly all three nurses barged in, hoping they’d make it on time

“semi, kawanishi, I'm scarred, the doctors were sharing cooties!” goshiki exclaimed

“WE MISSED IT?!?!” the nurse trio says

“I SPENT MONTHS TRYING TO GET YOU GUYS TOGETHER AND WHEN YOU DO I MISS THE WHOLE DAMN THING. I EVEN MISSED THE KISS! IF I WASN’T HERE FOR IT, IT DOESN’T COUNT, DO IT AGAIN!” tendou screamed

ushijima goes to lean in and kiss the female doctor again but before his lips could reach hers, y/n put her hand out so he’d kiss her hand

“why did you stop me from kissing you?” ushijima asks confused

y/n responds, “because toshi, there are children present”

extra scene:

“we came up with god knows how many plans, only for two kids to get them together ON THEIR FIRST TRY?!” tendou rants to the nurse trio as they watch the two doctors stare lovingly at each other

“don't remind me, I can't believe the kiddos outsmarted us. they haven’t even hit kindergarten” semi adds on rubbing the bridge of his nose

“whatever, we don’t have to bang our heads agains the wall ever again at their stupidity” kawanishi says

“that is until ushijima starts questioning whether it’s right time to propose” tendou says pulling at his red locks

“that a future nurse trio problem” kawanishi says while sitting between two masterminds that brought the doctors together

“my plan was better than all four of yours, that’s all I know” goshiki says while stroking his nonexistent beard causing the other four matchmakers to turn their heads against the wall and lean against it in shame

“we’re never underestimating mini rock lee again” the shameful four sighs out

doctor! ushijima wakatoshi x doctor! reader

a/n: yeah, there’s probably gonna need to be a part three because I have a lot of ideas and it’s too much to put all into part two sorry :(( but lmk if you’re interested in part three :))

so it's been a little over a year since y/n has been working at the clinic

still as popular as ever with the children due to her caring and gentle nature

ushijima is still ushijima (the same tall, stoic face doctor that scares the children until they realize he’s nothing but a softie)

their feelings for each other: yeah they’re still growing bigger than atsumu’s ego (or at least cutting it close)

the two doctors: still as oblivious as ever, never noticing the subtle hints they throw at each other (it’s mainly y/n throwing the hints though, ushijima never catches them causing his red headed counterpart to slam his head against the wall

the nurse trio continue to pick on their assigned doctors for not making any big moves

and when their doctor refuse to reveal their feelings, what do they do?

of course they rant to one another about their struggles in bringing to two doctors, who were smart enough to graduate medical school and pass residency but cannot confess for the life of them, together

“I swear waiting for them to confess is like watching paint dry” -semi

“SEMI SEMI USHIJIMA REFUSES TO CONFESS AND I SWEAR IM GOING BALD FROM THE STRESS”-tendou

kawanishi truly believes that he may graduate with his nursing degree, pass his board exams, and get his license and a permanent position at the clinic before they can even mutter the words “I like you” to one another

their feelings are so obvious the receptionists, reon and yamagata has caught on and take every second they see two walk into work together to make comments on how cute of a couple they would be 

it flusters y/n but ushijima keeps his stoic face and replies with “we’re just friends” (even though he’s blushing internally) 

moral of the story is, their feelings are painfully obvious to everyone except the two doctors

so it’s another typical day in the pediatrics center

y/n typing away at her cubicle while semi and kawanishi complains about her lack of courage 

“just confess to him please, it’s getting painful for all of us” kawanishi says bluntly while hitting his head against the cubicle wall, already knowing what the doctor was going to say

“no, he doesn’t like me that way, I don't know why you all keep insisting that he does” y/n replies with a semi mouthing the exact words she says after hearing everyday for the past six months

“do you not hear tendou screaming in distress everyday and screeching about how ushijima is as dumb as a brick” kawanishi asks 

“I thought he was inferring to ushijima’s lack of social awareness, which is adorable but also very dangerous in this field” y/n replies

“how are you a doctor but you’re so dumb?” semi asks rhetorically

“do you tune out the half where tendou is complaining ushijima’s love life and how he has the chance for it but isn’t taking it. he even shouts your name in there most of the time, what’s not clicking?” kawanishi rants

“look I'm too nervous to make the first move with ushijima and I cannot read his emotional 100% of the time, so confessing is out of the question. now there’s a patient coming in five minutes and you two have to do your typical nurse routine before I go in so hop to it” y/n spews out

typical nurse routine in case it was unclear: take height and weight, check patients blood pressure and ears, and record their temperature and reason for being in the office and such

semi and kawanishi grumble as they sanitize their hands and walk out of the office area

y/n takes a deep breath and slouches down in her chair as she begins to think of the conversation she just had with her troublesome nurses

after a few minutes of contemplating their words, the two nurses return with the file report of the patient, signaling the female doctor’s need in the examination room

as y/n makes her way to the examination room, she runs into ushijima who came rushing into the pediatrics center

“what has you rushing?” y/n asks an exasperated ushijima

“I was almost late since I was coaching shirabu today but it went a little more overtime than how I originally planned the session. also, we spent a good time waiting for his friend to show up only to find out they had to take a raincheck because the kid has a doctor’s appointment today” ushijima replied

“oh I see, well I need to get to a patient right now but I'll catch up with you after” y/n says 

ushijima gives her a nod and a pat on the head before rushing to the office to hopefully clock in on time

as y/n knocks on the door, she opens it to find a little boy with a bowl cut sitting on the examination table fiddling with his fingers

if bowl cut did not give it away, it’s our favorite rock lee look alike and if that didn’t help any it’s goshiki :) 

the toddler look up upon hearing the door open up and begins visibly shaking because doctor visits are scary

“hello goshiki, my name is dr. y/l/n and I heard you’re not feeling the greatest today, wanna tell me what’s wrong” y/n asked the boy gently, crouching to his height

goshiki hesitates on answer and sits silently while mumbling too quietly for y/n to hear

“I'm sorry sweetie, I couldn’t hear you? could you speak up, I promise I won't hurt you. I’m here to help you feel healthy and strong again!” y/n explains, trying to get the poor frightened boy to open up

“my friend and I were playing volleyball the other day and when he served the ball, it hit my head really hard and everything went black” goshiki says 

“I'm just worried if it he may have a concussion so I took him in” goshiki’s mother continues causing the doctor to nod and examine goshiki’s head

I see, so we are going to have to run a couple cognitive tests but from the looks of it, I think it may just be a bruise” y/n asserts causing the poor boy to shake at the word tests

“don’t worry, we do not need to do any shots or blood test. it’s just little memory things, unless you want an MRI scan to be 100% sure. but from what I see, I don’t believe it is a concussion” y/n continues

goshiki looks at his mom silently begging her not to make him take the scary test to which she replies that an MRI would not be necessary to goshiki’s relief

“well then goshiki, you ready to play some brain games. do your best!” y/n encourages the boy causing him to get fired up 

because she had him at games

‘OKAY!” goshiki exclaims bouncing on the examination table

y/n begins to grab cards with little picture on them and handed them to goshiki to begin memorizing 

she would test him after giving him 5 minutes to study the cards

little did she know, tendou decided that April fools would come early this year and decided to put a picture of ushijima within the cards 

just for shits and giggles you know 

tendou’s line of thinking you ask why not fluster y/n while she's caring for a patient, that would be hilarious 

after five minutes of goshiki studying the cards, he hands them back to y/n

“okay goshiki, can you name at least five of the cards out of the ten that I gave you?” y/n asks, still unaware of the picture of the giant doctor

“blanket, bed, apple, chair, and penguin” goshiki recites

y/n looks at the first five cards to see goshiki had named them in order

“perfect, do you think you can do all ten?” y/n encourages

goshiki nods excitedly and continues

“bear, flower, water, ball, and ushijima” goshiki says, eyes sparkling at the last word

y/n visibly jumps, her cheeks turning red

“wait a minute, dr. ushijima is not one of the card options” y/n questions

“yes he was, his picture was the tenth card I studied” goshiki says innocently

y/n begins vigorously going through the cards she handed goshiki only to see the little bowl cut boy was correct

 the tenth card was in fact a photo of the tall, stoic doctor

goddammit tendou y/n thinks in her head, knowing it was for sure his doing

“I'm impressed that you got all ten but how did you know that was dr. ushijima?” y/n asks curiously

need I remind you, y/n’s face is as red as tendou’s hair 

“he's my favorite volleyball player in the whole entire world, I wanna be an ace just like him. I was going to play volleyball with him today but mommy said I have to go to the doctors” goshiki explains, his face visibly deflating when mentioning his missed opportunity

“I see, goshiki do you mind waiting in here for like 5 minutes for me. I need to print your papers to take home but my printer isn’t working in here?” y/n asks politely while goshiki nods

y/n takes her leave and makes her way to the office room where she sees ushijima looking at paperwork, sitting in his cubicle

“ushijima-san, can I borrow you for a few minutes?” y/n pops her head in his cubicle and politely asks him 

ushijima nods while throwing his paperwork on his desk

“it’s a small world I swear. my current patient was the child you were supposed to coach today. he apparently is a huge fan of you and was super sad that he missed an opportunity to meet his idol” y/n explains 

ushijima catching where y/n was going with his nodded and opened the office door for y/n, signaling her to lead the way to the patient’s room

“you don’t have a patient coming in soon do you?” y/n asks, concerned that she’s putting him off schedule

“I don't have a patient coming in for another hour, so it’s fine” ushijima replies

soon they make it in front of the examination room

of course the three troublemaking nurses are staring at them behind a wall thinking what’s going on for them to be going into a room together

I tried finding a reference picture but scary pictures popped up and now I'm scared but basically it’s like one head on top of another, if you can find it lmk I think I'm searching up the wrong thing

y/n knocks on the door to goshiki’s room and then walks in with ushijima following behind her, but he’s hidden by the curtain

“hi goshiki, there’s someone I would like you to meet” y/n says which ushijima took as a cue to come out from behind the curtain

when I tell you goshiki squealed, he screamed so loud, washijou could hear it from his office which was on the opposite side of the pediatrics center

receptionists yamagata and reon can hear him from their little windows 

everyone in the waiting area heard it loud and clear, concerned for the child who they believed were screaming bloody murder

anyways after goshiki had his internal fanboy moment, he climbed off the examination table and ran up to ushijima, hugging his legs

“OMG ITS USHIJIMA, HE’S REALLY HERE. I LUB YOU” goshiki screaming, jumping up and down while holding onto ushijima’s khaki colored slacks

“pleasure to meet you goshiki, I heard you also love playing volleyball” ushijima answered 

“YES I LOVE VOLLEYBALL, I HOPE TO BE AN ACE JUST LIKE YOU” goshiki exclaims waving his little arms all over the place 

ushijima chuckles and y/n swears she’s never heard anything more melodic in her life

“I’m glad I inspire you to be a better volleyball player. I hope you will be able to make it to shirabu’s next volleyball lesson, I look forward to working with you” ushijima replies

“YES SIR” goshiki said bowing repeatedly 

ushijima approaches goshiki’s mother to begin working out a schedule fit for goshiki

all while y/n continues to stare at his face with a fond look

suddenly, she feels a tug on her scrub bottoms and looks down to find goshiki looking up at her with a questioning look on his face

“Dr. y/l/n, do you love ushijima-kun?” goshiki asked innocently while tilting his head to the side

this caused the female doctor to turn a bright shade of red and attempt to deny it to the best of her capabilities

waving hands

repeatedly saying no

what you think of, she probably tried it to convince baby goshiki that she had no feelings for the volleyball-playing doctor

“why are you so red dr. y/ln?” goshiki asks causing ushijima to turn around and look at her worriedly

he begins walking over to y/n and places his hand on her forehead to check for her temperature

“are you alright? are you sick perhaps? maybe you should take the rest of the day off and rest” ushijima speaks to the poor doctor who turns even redder by the minute

“no no I am perfectly fine, it’s just that I’m overheating in my white coat, nothing else” y/n responds waving her hands in fast motion

ushijima chose not to question it but goshiki could tell she was lying

I mean who gets hot in a hospital, when it’s the middle of winter

“c’mon goshiki, we have to go. we don’t want to miss your playdate with shirabu now do we?” goshiki’s mother breaks the tense air

hearing his best friend’s name, he shook out of his thoughts and nodded quickly 

“dr. ushijima, is it too much to ask for your autograph?” goshiki asks

ushijima turns to the kid and nods as if saying “I don’t mind”

ushijima takes a piece of paper out of the functioning printer and grabs a pen from the cup placed near the computer

he signs the paper, writing a little note for the baby mushroom boy

he hands it to goshiki and as he reads it, he squeals 

to my number 1 fan, thank you for your support :)

goshiki grabs his mother’s hand leaving the examination room, waving to the two doctors

not missing ushijima staring at y/n’s smile as she waves happily back to goshiki

“are you sure you’re feeling well y/l/n?” ushijima asks

they stare fondly at each other and begin leaning towards one another before a certain red head barges in to tell ushijima that his patient is here

“USHI YOUR 2:30 IS HERE, OH SHOOT! TAKE YOUR TIME :)” tendou screams causing the two to break apart

just a side but semi and kawanishi definitely watched the whole thing, banging their head against the wall while cursing at the stupid red head

before anyone comes for me I love tendou but they’re mad he cockblocked

“I should go see my patient” ushijima says curtly, bowing at the female doctor and making his way to the examination room his patient is currently waiting in

y/n is fanning herself while thinking about the moment she had with the handsome doctor while her two nurses are cursing out the red head

“YOU COULD’VE WAITED LIKE FIVE MINUTES, WE WERE SO CLOSE TO ENDING OUR MISERY” -kawanishi

“TENDOU YOU IDIOT I HATE YOU” -semi

I don't usually do POV changes but THIS IS NO LONGER TAKING PLACE AT THE DOCTOR’S OFFICE BUT IT’S GOSHIKI AND SHIRABU’S PLAYDATE

goshiki makes his way into shirabu’s house

he bows at shirabu’s mother before making his way to his best friend’s room

“SHIRABU, I MET USHIJIMA TODAY!!” goshiki screams

“asahi (god), can you please keep it down” shirabu responds

goshiki then explains what went down in the doctor’s office while shirabu listens intently, ears perking up at the mentions of goshiki’s female physician

“wait, what did your doctor look like” shirabu asks poking goshiki’s tummy with one of his taped fingers

goshiki goes on to explain her appearance and shirabu can suddenly picture her due to...

“oh my asahi, ushijima has her picture as his phone wallpaper and he’s always staring at it during our volleyball lessons” shirabu says to goshiki

“that’s funny because when he walked into the examination room, dr. y/l/n kept staring at him and always turned red whenever he was mentioned. do you think they’re like best friends?” goshiki asks

“no you idiot, they like each other” shirabu says, hitting his forehead at his best friend’s stupidity

“but dr. y/l/n said she doesn’t like him like that” goshiki responds

“but why would she tell her secrets, especially to some kid she just met goshiki” shirabu says, internally questioning his friendship with his fellow bowl cut mate

after arguing about it back and forth, shirabu ended their verbal dispute by throwing a volleyball nearby and effectively hitting goshiki in the forehead

pls stop the goshiki abuse, just praise the poor boy :((

“okay, forget about this arguing. but goshiki I think you know what we have to do” shirabu said smiling deviously, gears turning in his small mind

thus the children begin plotting operation: you should have come to volleyball lessons

there are children present (pt. 1)

doctor! ushijima wakatoshi x doctor! reader

ushijima is was your typical pediatrician at the miyagi health clinic

the only difference is he’s 6′2 and very beefy which is pretty funny when he’s surrounded by kid-size furniture everyday

his rough exterior scares his patients at times but everyone in the pediatrics department knows he’s a real softie on the inside

everyone until y/n joins the pediatrics team at the miyagi health clinic

on her first day of work, y/n lost her way around the big building 

she looked in all directions hoping someone would see her confused stares and help a poor girl out

luckily ushijima spotted the girl while she was looking down at her phone, seeing the message her supervisor had sent her yesterday about the wing she would be working in

however, in y/n’s eyes, seeing a giant walking towards her with an intimidating aura made the girl shiver in her hospital clogs

as ushijima grew closer to her, she flinched in fear, and began chanting words along the lines of “pls spare me”

when ushijima saw her visibly shaking in his presence, his face morphed into one of confusion

in his mind he was questioning do I really scare people that much

 he took a deep breath and mustered up the most gentle, nurturing voice he could to speak to the woman

“I apologize if I startled you, it was never my intention. you just looked lost and I thought you would need some of my assistance” ushijima said shyly

y/n feels terrible having misjudged his intentions and forms a look of guilt on her face after hearing him speak to her, having a minor yachi panicking moment

“I’m so sorry, I’m just nervous around new people. I would greatly appreciate some help finding my way to the pediatrics department please. I would hate to be late on my first day” y/n responds while craning her neck upwards to look at the tower man

ushijima nods, letting out a quiet “follow me” as he led her to the department he works in everyday

as they arrive to the pediatrics department, y/n is in awe at the miniature chairs and table fit for toddlers, chalkboard cluttered with doodles, and small toys in the waiting area

suddenly she hears the receptionist greet ushijima from the counter 

“ahh hello yamagata, I see you came into the office earlier than usual today” ushijima replies stoically, proceeding to scan his card into the door, allowing him access to the department

y/n begins to question how he has access to the pediatrics department, believing he worked in a different department and only helped to guide her to where she needed to go

as she goes in, she is greeted by her supervisor

however, she did not expect for her supervisor to be a grumpy old man with the bushiest eyebrows she has ever seen

“hello, you must be y/n. I am your supervisor tanji washijou. I see you have met our top pediatrician, Dr. Ushijima Wakatoshi” the elder greeted the poor girl whose soul has suddenly left her body

not only did she misjudge ushijima when he was trying to help her, he’s also her coworker

“you will be assigned a nurse who will be your partner working here. your patients are now their patients, so it’s best to get to know your nurse as you will have to work together to help the patients that come in” washijou continues

the girl nods as she follows washijou down a long hall to an office area where she sees the room section off into cubicles that are labeled with a name plate for each pediatrician

y/n spots the cubicle that has her name plastered on one of its walls and walks towards it

“I see you have found your cubicle, this is where you will work when you have no appointments, whether it’s looking at documents and analyzing test results, all that will happen in here” washijou explains

y/n nods signifying that she understood the elder’s words and began looking around her cubicle, imagining the personal items she may store here to make it feel cozier

washijou brings her out of her thoughts as he walks out the door, informing the young woman that he will be bringing her assigned nurse to her cubicle so they could get to know one another. 

as y/n is unpacking her work bag, she hears the door open which causes her to see who is entering office area

she sees two men walking towards her, one immensely tall and the other shorter in comparison to the giant he stands next to

the shorter male has noticeable ash blonde hair with darker tips, although he looks tough, she notices a comforting aura surrounding him which makes her less frightened than her previous encounters

the taller male, for sure intimidated the poor new girl he’s 6′2 with dark ginger hair and although he is on the lankier side, his resting face is what causes the girl to avoid his piercing stare

as they stop in front of the girl, she realizes these are the nurses that have been assigned to her 

“hello, my name is semi eita. I am a registered nurse who has been here for a few years. I look forward to getting to know you and working along side you” the shorter male introduces himself

y/n notices his gentle, deep voice that has put her in a calmer state as she replies “good morning, I am y/n y/l/n, I am excited to work with you as well and hope we can build a closer bond as we work alongside one another” 

noticing the poor girl fiddling with her fingers as she glances at his taller counterpart, semi begins once again, “this is kawanishi taichi, he is currently fulfilling his residency requirements under my supervision, so he will also be working fairly close beside you” 

“I look forward to working with you” kawanishi speaks for the first time in his lazy tone while bowing to the girl

“thank you, I hope to provide a good learning experience for you” y/n responds, bowing back to the tall boy

soon, the door is being opened again, and y/n sees ushijima walking in with a tall red head wearing blue scrubs

“I’m just saying wakatoshi-kun, the content within the jump magazines are more amusing than the ads” the tall red head asserts

ushijima nods and then approaches the trio standing at y/n’s cubicle

“hello Dr. y/l/n, this is my nurse tendou satori. I apologize, he’s a little bit on the loud side” ushijima says quite bluntly

“wakatoshi-kun, that’s very harsh to say. I’m hurt” tendou replies

y/n giggles before responding back, “pleasure to meet you tendou, I hope to be able to get to know you better while working in the same department with you” 

the rest of the day was spent with the five getting to know each other due to the slow day in the office and none of them having any appointments for the day

during the next few months, y/n is forming close bonds with those she met on her first day (minus washijou) and adjusting to her job phenomenally 

getting to know her patients, noting all their symptoms, and diagnosing them in a fairly quick manner 

leading her to be fairly popular in the office as many parents are bringing their children to her office

ushijima, although very efficient in analyzing his patients’ records and diagnosing his patients very quickly, struggles with communicating to them in a manner that would not scare them off

especially today, when one toddler in particular was not fond of his scary appearance

the little boy had walked into the checkup room, holding his mother’s hand

his bangs cut in a slant direction (they’re basically uneven and looks like the hypotenuse of a triangle, I suck with descriptions so I’m hoping you all know I'm talking about shirabu LOL)

when tendou walked in to take the child’s temperature and blood pressure, the child was struggling to remain calm as a towering red headed male with crazy eyes kept looking at him dead on

after taking the necessary data on the child, tendou says quite animatedly “alright shirabu, Dr. Ushijima will be with you shortly, make yourself comfortable and help yourself to some books in the bucket”

shirabu’s mother hands him a little book which leads him to flipping through the pages and pointing at the cute animals within it

once an a while having to blow his uneven bangs out his eyes

all of a sudden the door opens and when shirabu looks up, his whole face pales and tears begin gathering in his eyes

 to shirabu, a giant, mean looking man stands in front of him, ready to yell at him, kill him, or anything horrible in-between

before ushijima could let a word out, shirabu begins to sob loudly on the examination table

ushijima stops walking towards shirabu, as his mom reaches out to console him

as shirabu’s mother is trying to comfort him and tell him how ushijima is here to make sure he's healthy, shirabu continues to sob louder and repeatedly scream “but he’s so scary”

ushijima freezes on the spot 

usually when children are frightened of him their parents are able to calm them down 

but shirabu is relentless and stubbornly continues to cry to his little toddler bum’s desire

ushijima excuses himself from the room, stating that he will be back shortly, shutting the door behind him

outside the examination room, ushijima was silently panicking

why was I cursed with such a big body

why do people always think my facial expression is scary, it’s just my resting face

I’m not mad at least 98% of the time

I just want the kids to feel safe and comfortable to tell me their problems so I can fix them as fast as possible :(

as he was having an internal conversation with himself, y/n walks by and notices the distress on his face

she begins to grow concern for the man, she’s grown to know as a giant teddy bear

yes she caught feels for him within the past few months

semi and kawanishi never let her live it down, making it their mission to fluster her on the subject at least once a day

she walks over to the conflicted giant, but not before noticing the three nurses around the corner staring at her with a smirk on each of their faces

ofc tendou is in that upside down position (y'all know which one I’m talking about)

rolling her eyes at her three spectators, she turned back to ushijima to deal with his internal crisis

“Ushijima, did you need help with something?” y/n asked as she approached him

“no, I do not understand why my latest patient is so afraid of me. I did not even get to speak a word before he started screaming. usually I at least get one word in” ushijima replies as the cries of shirabu could still be heard through the door

y/n winces at the boy’s shrill cries but is also impressed that it is able to resonate past the wooden door

“did you want me to try to talk to the patient first? hopefully, get him to ease into you” y/n offered

ushijima nodded curtly, handing y/n the patient’s information which she glances over fairly quick

y/n takes a deep breath and opens the door, which causes the cries to come at a higher volume

shirabu opens his eyes after hearing the door open, thinking the scary tall man came back to kill him only to be greeted by a smaller woman with gentle eyes

the child halts his cries, but the tears keep falling silently

y/n grabs some tissues from the counter and wipes the poor boy’s face which is red from all his sobs

she crouches down to the boy’s height and smiles gently at him

“hey little guy, I’m Dr. y/l/n. I heard you’re being a brave little boy visiting the doctor today” y/n speaks in a nurturing voice

shirabu nods shyly, still tucked away in his mother’s arms

“I promise you Dr. Ushijima is nothing you should be scared of, he’s the best doctor in the building who will help you feel better” y/n explains gently to the boy who shakes his head in his mother’s shoulder

“he’s giant and scary” shirabu speaks for the first time while fiddling with his smol bby fingers

“I'll let you in on a secret little guy” y/n whispers towards shirabu

being the curious child he is, shirabu lets go of his mother and scoots his little bum towards the edge of the examination table to listen in on the secret 

“Dr. Ushijima looks scary, but he’s really gentle and soft. just think of him as a soft teddy bear because really that's all he is” y/n whispers making the little boy giggle thinking of the tall mean doctor dressed as a soft bear

“with that said, will you be okay to see Dr. Ushijima now?” y/n asks

shirabu nods with the picture of his doctor dressed as a bear freshly engraved into his mind

y/n nods and bows to shirabu’s mother before stepping out of the examination room to fetch the giant pediatrician

“he’s ready to see you now, he might actually be very excited” y/n informs ushijima

ushijima nods, takes a deep breath, and walks into the room shirabu is in

shirabu look up to the tall doctor, eyes still slightly glassy from his previous crying session

although he is still shaking in his child boots (shoes? sneakers? whatever shoes your heart desires) 

he refrains from screaming out, imagining the big man as a teddy bear like he has been for the past couple minutes

“hello, I am Dr. Ushijima and I am here to help you fix your problems” the giant doctor voices out, still nervous on the inside

after half and hour of speaking to shirabu, ushijima concludes that the poor boy just jammed his fingers and just needs to tape them

“may I ask what you were doing that caused you to jam your fingers?” ushijima asks gently

the boy shakily replies “I was setting the volleyball to my friend but my timing was off” 

ushijima eyes light up at the mention of volleyball as he ask incredulously, “you play volleyball?” 

the child nods timidly as ushijima gets a glint in his eyes that is unfamiliar to the poor boy

“I played in high school, I was a wing spiker” ushijima replies causing the child’s eyes to also light up 

“really, that’s so cool. I’ve been watching old clips from high school nationals and the wing spiker on shiratorizawa is amazing. he has so much power, I wish to set for him someday” shirabu rambles before he looks at ushijima and recognizes him from the videos he’s been watching

“WOAH YOU WERE THE ACE OF SHIRATORIZAWA FROM THE VIDEOS I WATCHED?!?” shirabu exclaims with stars shining in his eyes

ushijima chuckles and hums a positive answer causing the little boy to spitfire questions to the man such as:

how many points did you score each game?

did you ever break the floor with your serve?

has anyone ever broken a bone from your deadly spike?

shirabu’s mom began to scold shirabu for bombarding ushijima with too many questions making the poor toddler bow his head in shame and slap his chubby cheeks with his own hands as a self-punishment

ushijima seeing the poor inflict pain on himself began to panic and continuously ask the boy to stop hurting himself

“I would love to answer your questions sometime but I have a patient coming in 20 minutes but feel free to contact me through my email or phone number on the clinic website if you want to continue talking about volleyball. I see you have a great interest for it” ushijima says making shirabu look up adorned with red cheeks and starry eyes

shirabu nods eagerly asking his mom to help him use the computer when he gets home so he can talk to ushijima

“I also wouldn't mind coaching you on my off days.  I haven’t played volleyball in a long time so please toss for me sometime” ushijima says crouching down to the shirabu’s height and giving him a small smile

said boy squeals in excitement and claps his little hands together

“THANK YOU SO MUCH DR. USHIJIMA” shirabu exclaims, going in and giving ushijima a hug

shirabu’s mom could definitely be heard in the background lecturing shirabu on his manners and personal space

but ushijima doesn’t mind

in fact, he is touched that a patient feels so comfortable with him and enjoys his presence

releasing himself from shirabu’s hug he then speaks, “well then I’ll be off, I hope to hear from you soon” 

shirabu hops off the examination table and bows to the tall man and exclaims, “yes, thank you for everything, doctor”

shirabu grabs his mother’s hand and leaves the room as ushijima holds the door open for them

as ushijima walks into the office room, he sees y/n typing reports on the computer

he approaches her and taps her shoulder causing the poor girl to jump in her seat

“I apologize for startling you, I just wanted to thank you for helping me calm down shirabu earlier” ushijima shows his gratitude 

“it’s no big deal, I'm glad to be of use to the best pediatrician in the whole unit” y/n replies with a smile on her face

ushijima then notices his heart beat quickening and thumping louder than normal

he believes that anyone could hear its rapid beat without requiring a stethoscope
