Fieldwork Ch. 14
1. My mother and I
Most of the power comes from my mother because she takes care of me. Sharing power and control works well between us because we have well-established limits and understand boundaries within the relationship. Power is organized because she is my biological mother and she is financially responsible for me. As stated before, there are established limits. As long as I stay in school and do what I’m supposed to do, there is no problem. Other than the societal norm placed upon children to respect their parents and parents are responsible for their children, their are political laws created for these power dynamics. Their are laws for parental liability that obligates parents to be guardians of their children.
2. My bestfriend and I
Power is balanced equally between my bestfriend and I. Because neither of us is obligated to be in this relationship, we have an equal opportunity to use power and doesn’t require acts of domination. We are both female, the same age, race we are considered equal and respect boundaries created. There are no political negotiations in this relationship other than to respect one another as humans. These power dynamics were established through independence and interdependence because there is no obligation but we still choose to rely on one another.
3. My teacher and I
Power is balanced equally between my teacher and I through institutional and societal norms. I raised to respect my teachers because they provide me a service and are usually older than me. In my culture, we were taught to respect adults which gives them a higher power in the relationship, but because I am not obligated to respect them gives me equal power. This relationship hold political negotiations such as listening to your teacher so you may receive a proper education. These power dynamics were created through society. Society has taught us to be courteous of how we act towards others.
4. My boss and I
The boss hold most of the power in this relationship. Power is organized based on qualifications. In the workplace a hierarchy is set so that it allows employees on different levels to identify a chain of command to maintain internal control. Because they are placed in a higher position and they provide us with an income, it is expected of us to follow their rules and procedures. These power dynamics are placed in the work place because having a strong organizational structure is paramount to the success of any business.
5. My pet and I
In this relationship I hold much of the power. This relationship is related to my mother and I (not saying I am a pet). Because I am financially responsible and nurture my pet, I hold most of the power. The power is organized based on the fact that I am human with an income and my pet is not and is dependent on me. There are no political negotiations between my pet and I. Taking care of pets like humans are societal norms.

Fieldwork Ch. 13
My name is Jaslene and I am from the Philippines. I am a 40 year old woman and I Filipino. I immigrated to the United States with my family when I was 7 years old so I am a one and a half generation immigrant. As I can remember, my mother moved to the United States to be a professional immigrant in the medical field. The United States seemed like the land of opportunity and freedom so she was happy to leave the Philippines. Our family on the other hand, was not very happy about her decision to leave so we moved after my grandmother passed away. In the Philippines, my mother was expected to take care of my grandparents and I while my father worked. When my father passed, my mother liked that she could take on a career and make her own income in the United States. It took us 6 months to actually take the trip to the United States. I believe that it would’ve been much harder now to come. My mother knew English and I didn’t know much but we had family member in the United States who were willing teach us as much as possible. Growing up in the United States, my mother made sure I took advantage of the opportunities in the United States. I am now a math teacher for a middle school and have a wonderful family.

Fieldwork Ch. 12
Nestle is a major company working with over 700,000 farmers directly in their supply chain. The majority of Nestle’s cocoa farmers are smallholders with low productivity and incomes, living in poor communities, with depleted soils and older, less productive trees. Because the work is very intense, they usually resort to using their children and women for help classifying it as child labor. The top five manufacturers, including Mars, Mondelez and Nestlé, account for more than 65 per cent of total confectionery sales. Nestle is a $281.3 billion corporation and make $93.4 billion off sales alone. They sell products like baby foods, bottled water, coffee, cereals, and chocolate that range from $1-$15. Store owners make about one-third of the retail price allowing a 100% markup for the retailer. So if the bar is $1, they usually sell it for $1.25. Nestle is trying to find better packaging to reduce pollution, other ways to reduce child labor and deforestation.

Fieldwork Ch. 11
Karl Marx is a theorist who analyzed the increasing inequalities in capitalism. Mrx established two social classes that make up today’s society that the article also displays. The first and highest class is the bourgeoise that is the capitalist class that owns the means of production. According to the article , Apple exceeds $1 trillion in market capitalization. Apple is also the epitome of an “asset light” company because it owns very few hard assets and who needs almost zero outside capital to run its business. Apple produces phones, laptops, and other technology that is ideal for corporate America, this is their means of production. The means of production makes them value and profit in the market place.
To keep this mass production, Apple must hire the second class Marx introuduces. The proletariats are the class of laborers who own only their labor. In order to make a living, the proletariats exchange their work or labor. Today, working classes all over the world are struggling with the challenges of globalization and new technologies. Karl Marx’s theory shows a never ending cycle because the money that is made by the proletariats are given back to the bourgeoise or capitalist to keep them striving.

Fieldwork Ch.10
This is my family tree. I have divided the relationship between my moms side and my fathers side. My mom has two sisters (one passed), one brother, and one brothers-in-law. My mother side is ranged from South Carolina and Florida and now lives in Maryland. This explains why my family values southern hospitality and great Southern food. My aunt and her husband has a set of twins, so they run on that side of the family. My dads side is from the Southern Maryland and DC area. My dad has 5 sisters and 1 brother. I am not very close to this side of family and my dad doesn’t know much about his side to elaborate.

Fieldwork Assignment #7

1. Masculinity
A beard may be associated with the traits of masculinity because older men can grow beards and younger men can’t, so it’s associated with age and maturity. It is also associated with higher male hormones like aggression and masculinity.

2. Masculinity/Femininity
“Genderfluid” people often express a desire to remain flexible about their gender identity rather than committing to a single definition. Sometimes they portray both masculine and feminine characteristics through the way they dress.
youtube
3. Masculinity
These video tells men that if they stopped using lady scented body wash that usually smells sweet or fruity they could smell more like “men”.
4. Femininity
T.I. says that he wouldn’t vote for Hillary Clinton for president because “It’s kinda like, I just know that women make rash decisions emotionally. They make very permanent, cemented decisions – and then later, it’s kind of like it didn’t happen, or they didn’t mean for it to happen. And I sure would hate to just set off a nuke.” Women are portrayed as emotional and sentimental so therefore we are not qualified for top positions that men are.
youtube
5. Femininity

Fieldwork Assingment #6
Microaggression is common, everyday verbal or behavioral indignities that communicates negative messages. Harvard University students who feel marginalized by their University puts on an “ I am too Harvard” performance. The play was based on a student interview project and Tumblr page. The project focuses on comments that may seem innocent but can also make someone uncomfortable or bothered.

White supremacy is the belief that whites are biologically different from and superior to people of other races. This is a picture of a white supremacists movement called the Klu Klux Klan in Washington DC in 1925. The KKK is an American white supremacist hate group, whose primary target is African American. The article explained how history can teach us about why white supremacy is on the rise today.

Hypodescent includes the “one drop of blood rule” meaning if you have one drop of black or african American your are considered the “subordinate”. The phrase “I Crossed the Color Line” on the photo reminded my of hypodescent because that “one drop” determines your race or what side of the color line you are on.

Genotype is the inherited genetic factor that provide the framework for organisms physical form. The genetic mutations ACTG are included inside the DNA sequence that makeup cell.

Phenotype is the way genes are expressed in a organism’s physical form as a result of genotype interaction with environmental factors. This is a picture of Zendaya who has red hair, brown eyes, and light skin. These are the genes that physically show.

Racism is an individuals thoughts and actions and institutional patterns and policies that create and reproduce unequal access to power, privilege, resources, and opportunities based on imaginal differences among groups. Fieldwork Assignment #4
It's too big (Big) It's too wide (Wide) It's too strong (Strong)
Words such as “big”, “wide”, and “strong” are not words used to describe characteristics of arrogance or confidence. Beyoncé decides use her own version of dialect of the word “EGO” and changes up the meaning for either a literal ego or innuendo for penis.
He got a big ego Such a huge ego I love his big ego It's too much He walk like this 'cause he can back it up
Beyonce illustrates gender because she is talking about the ego of a man that she is attracted to.
Some call it arrogant I call it confident
You don't need to call in to work 'cause you're the boss For real, want you to show me how you feel I consider myself lucky, that's a big deal Why? Well, you got the key to my heart But you ain't gonna need it I'd rather you open up my body And show me secrets you didn't know was inside
This exemplifies power because some people usually feel offended towards men with overexerting personalities. In this case, the mans ego has the ability to influence how she feels about him. It makes her feel protected and open herself up to him.
