"مٹی کی زندگی" خشک مٹی کے تودوں پر جب پانی ڈالا جاتا ہے نہ, تو کبھی محسوس کرنا ان آوازوں کو جو اس میں چھنکتی ہیں ایسے ہی جیسے پائل پاؤں میں پہنی جائے تو چھن چھن کرتی ہے. بارش کا پانی تو جب زمین پر گرتا ہے تو کچھ دیر بعد اس کا شور کم ہو جاتا ہے. لیکن اس پانی کا اثر  تو کئی دیر تک مٹی میں ہلچل مچاتا رہتا ہے. اور وہ آوازیں جو آج میں پہلی دفعہ سن رہی ہوں بس دل کر رہا ہے کہ کان لگاکے سنتی جاؤں. خشک مٹی آہستہ آہستہ پانی کے زور سے پھٹ رہی تھی اور اس میں جو نرمی آرہی تھی وہ ریشم سے بھی کئی زیادہ ملائم تھی. خوشبو تو عطر کی مہک سے بھی کئی زیادہ گہری تھی اور مٹی کی رنگت یوں لگ رہا تھا کہ اس کہ جیسا کوئی رنگ ہی نہ ہو.
