things to think about for characters
do they have allergies?
what foods will they not touch?
what kinds of music do they like?
how are they around new people?
do they speak in an accent?
have they tried learning a new language?
how many languages do they know?
what is a song that will always make them cry?
how do they cry? heaving? silently? sobbing?
how do they dress? for practicality or fashion?
what is the first thing they notice about a stranger?
what is their humour like?
do they have scars? what caused them?
do they wear jewelry?
are they a frivolous spender or a miser?
do they prefer luxury or practicality?
who would they quote?
what could make them change their mind?
who is the first person they'd call?
how are they around animals? do they have pets?
what is their favourite childhood food?
what is something they've never told anyone?
childhood friends?
what are habits they've picked up from other people?
what are their guilty pleasures?
what is something they're staunchly against?
do they speak a certain way? do they use contractions? popular turns of phrase?
can they fall in love? what does it look like? does it differ between people -- friends vs family?
what would they rather die than do?
what is their biggest mistake? one that they look out to never do again.

IM GOING TO CRY THEY MIGHT INCREASE THE SSI ASSETS LIMIT TO $10,000.
it's a bipartisan bill too! and for anyone unaware, people on SSI (which is different from SSDI), can only have $2,000 in assets (unless they have an ABLE account, which comes with its own rules). this assets limit has been in place for FORTY YEARS and is a giant part of why being on SSI keeps people incredibly impoverished.
i've also heard they might remove the marriage penalty but i don't have the spoons to read or explain it so someone else please add on!
this is huge! please spread the word and do what you can to help ensure this happens!

i love tungsten but also he literally is just angst. he gets like 5 seconds of fluff. and then the story is over. like it's implied he is happy but also like... if he was an ao3 tag he would be dead dove: do not eat about hurt no comfort. he pretty much knows he's about to die before he does.
anyways he is so deserving of love please i need to give him a hug.

@vshadow64 Artemis Noxverse?
I see a lot of characters who isolate themselves because they've been abandoned and don't want to go through the pain again, but what I don't see enough are characters who isolate themselves for the opposite reasons. Characters who've been smothered and helicoptered and had their boundaries stomped. Characters who act tough and hyper-independent because they were treated as fragile and helpless. Characters who act like they don't need anyone because they were told they can't do anything on their own. Characters who lash out at people trying to express worry or offer help, because worry was weaponized to control them and help was pushed on them against their will. Characters who struggle with vulnerability because past weakness was used as "proof" that they couldn't handle themselves and a tool to take away their autonomy. Who sometimes snap even at loved ones because their brain auto-registers love and affection as being backed into a corner.
"I work alone" not because they've always done that, but because they've never had the chance.

Saving this to break these and tear you hearts apart
Scene Transitions
Transitioning between scenes is something that you’ll have to do a lot. A good scene transition blends seamlessly into the next so we hardly notice it occurring—or it stands out in order to heighten an emotional impact.
I remember teachers saying, “transitions should blend seamlessly” to me in school without ever explaining how to do that, or what it looks like. The good news is, you’ve probably read so many books and consumed so much media that you’re already subconsciously transitioning your scenes. If you’re struggling, though, here’s what to watch out for:
1. The emotion ends off and begins at the same place.
This isn’t necessarily a hard rule, but it certainly helps maintain a sort of flow to the work, and asks a lot less from your readers than putting them through an emotional rollercoaster. This counts whether it’s transitioning from the same POV or different ones.
For example, if your character is being chased by the police and the scene cuts off without knowing what happens to them, the next scene needs to begin in this heightened sense of urgency and anxiety.
However, if your character is being chased by police and dives unnoticed into their hideout, the next scene should begin within this sense of relief. From here, you can take it wherever you want—just maintain a consistency between chapter cuts, POVs, or other time/place skips.
2. Finish what you start
Unless you’re intentionally keeping the audience in the dark about something (which would require at least some acknowledgement that there are answers, they just aren’t being revealed), you should finish what one scene starts.
Say your previous chapter ends off with the character finally reaching the end of the line for the super scary haunted house attraction. The next should probably begin with them getting to enter the house. If it begins the next day, we’ll be so caught up in the missing time and the obvious lack of answers surrounding the haunted house it’ll take us completely out of the scene and make a notable cut.
An example of a story that does this notable cut really well is ‘A Face Like Glass’ by Frances Hardinge, in which nearing the end, Hardinge inserts a page that playfully acknowledges the complete jump in time and space without revealing anything to the readers about why it’s there, leaving them to discover later on what occurred in that space.
I wish I could quote it exactly but I don’t have the book with me. If anyone does, please reblog this with the page! You’ll know the one I’m talking about.
3. Keep it the same
Don’t switch to a new POV in the middle of the story when you’ve never seen it before unless intentionally making a point. Do transition your scenes however you’d like, but maintain consistency throughout the story. That way, if you ever need to make a point, you can break all the rules you’ve followed to really hammer home the impact.
                Good luck!

LEAF HEMLOCK IS ABSOLUTELY THE ASSHOLE CMON PEOPLE
AITA for trying to stop someone from killing me?
I (800million M, 60M physically) have been preparing for 300 million years to try to stop an absolute monster of a women (21F) who was prophesied to kill me.
She died. Not really. She died and I hijacked her afterlife to lie to her. I told her that we would make a deal in exchange for her immortality. This was a lie, as either way she would get her ‘immortality’. I was just stalling to confuse her in the long run. She is.. connected to an eldritch entity, one that I have been trying to keep for myself. Inevitably she is supposed to ‘gain control’ of the eldritch entity and kill me, then go on to become death itself and destroy the world.
So I did everything I could to stop her. My cult, 300~ million years old, tried to cause.. inconveniences, but her strange immortality was getting in the way. Over a few years, about 4 years, I tried to stop her. She was getting stronger and closer to learning the truth, so I wrapped her into my cult and started to manipulate her for months. The plan was to succumb her to my power and then consume her power and get rid of her.
However, I did not account for someone trying to save her. She has a strange… friend, thats cursed to be bound to her. However, I managed to fix this, by tricking them into killing each other. She came back, he did not. She eventually began to merge with the eldritch horror and learn the truth. She wants to kill me as revenge for tricking her and her friend into killing eachother, lying to her, giving her religious trauma, other mild inconveniences, and being a ‘conservative boomer’. whatever that means.
AITA for trying to stop someone who is prophesied to kill me from killing me?
