Apply in Person
You must apply in person using Form DS-11 if at least one of the following is true:
•You are applying for your first U.S. passport
HOW TO APPLY
1. Fill Out Form DS-11
Do not sign the application until instructed to do so by the acceptance agent.
You must provide a Social Security number, if you have been issued one
2. Provide Evidence of U.S. Citizenship
You must submit one of the following. Your evidence must be an original or certified, physical copy. A certified copy is any document that has the seal or stamp of the official issuing authority.
U.S. birth certificate that meets the following requirements:
Issued by the city, county, or state of birth
Lists your full name, date of birth, and place of birth
Lists your parent(s)' full names
Has the date filed with registrar's office (must be within one year of birth)
Has the registrar's signature
Has the seal of the issuing authority
3. Bring a Photocopy of U.S. Citizenship Evidence
Submit a photocopy of the front (and back, if there is printed information) of the U.S. citizenship evidence you’re providing to us.
Photocopies must be:
Legible
On white 8.5”x11” standard paper
Black and white
Single sided
4. Present ID
You must present one of the following identification documents (IDs) to the acceptance agent. The ID must readily identify you.
In-state, fully valid driver's license or enhanced driver's license with photo
5. Bring a Photocopy of ID
Submit a photocopy of the front (and back, if there is printed information) of each ID that you present when you apply.
Photocopies must be:
Legible
On white 8.5”x11” standard paper
Black and white
Single sided
7. Provide a Photo
You must provide one photograph with your application. To avoid processing delays, be sure your photo meets all photo requirements.
Photo Basics
Submit a color photo, taken in last 6 months
Use a clear image of your face. Do not use filters commonly used on social media.
Have someone else take your photo. No selfies.
Take off your eyeglasses for your photo.
Use a plain white or off-white background.
You cannot wear a hat or head covering.
If you wear a hat or head covering for religious purposes, submit a signed statement that verifies that the hat or head covering in your photo is part of traditional religious attire worn continuously in public.
You can wear jewelry and keep on your facial piercings as long as they do not hide your face. Permanent tattoos are acceptable for passport purposes as well.

9. Submit your Completed Application
Inside the United States:
You must submit your completed application, including citizenship evidence, photocopy of ID, photo, and fees, in person at a passport acceptance facility.

10. Track your Application Status
You can track your application status online.
Note: It may take up to 4 weeks from the day you apply until your application status is “In Process.” During these 4 weeks, your application is delivered to a mail facility, your payment is processed, and your application is scanned and sent to us. If your passport status update says “Not Available,” your application and supporting documents are safely on their way to us.

Yokohama
There are many different attractions in Yokohama, including one of the world’s largest Chinatowns, stylish shopping malls, a Ferris wheel and park along the sea, and many more. It is a popular place for expats.

Here are ways to travel to Yokohama from some major places in Tokyo:
Tokyo station to Yokohama (45 min- ¥550)
-Take the Keihintohoku Line (light blue) straight to Kannai Station. From there, walk about 350m.
Shinjuku station to Yokohama (45min- ¥640)
-Take the Shonan-Shinjuku Line (red) to Yokohama Station. At Yokohama Station, switch to Negishi Line to Kannai Station. From there, walk about 350m.
Akihabara Station to Yokohama (50 min - ¥550)
- Take the Keihintohoku Line (light blue) straight to Kannai Station.
Shibuya station to Yokohama (40 min- ¥480)
-Take the Tokyu-Toyoko Line (pink) straight to Nihon-Odori Station.
WHAT TO DO IN YOKOHAMA

Here, you can experience the food culture, events, and history of China while you are in Japan. There are temples and more than 500 shops in the area, so you can shop, eat, pray and enjoy the atmosphere in Yokohama Chinatown.

LEGAL DETAILS:

You must have a valid passport and a return ticket for tourist "visa free" stays of up to 90 days. Your passports must be valid for the entire time you are staying in Japan. U.S. citizens cannot work on a 90-day "visa free" entry.
All foreign nationals entering Japan are required to provide fingerprint scans and to be photographed at the port of entry. This requirement is in addition to any existing visa or passport requirements.
