𝐀𝐁𝐎𝐔𝐓 

the  hayes  family  has  always  been  into  basketball  .  his  father,  malek  hayes  had  an  almost  professional  basketball  career  if  it  wasn’t  for  his  knee  surgery  (  or  so  he  claims  )  .  naturally  ,  he  decided  that  his  children  were  going  to  make  it  to  the  nba  . 

ever  since  tarik  was  young  he  felt  the  need  to  prove  his  spot  in  the  family  ,  that  he  had  a  purpose  ,  that  he  was  loved  .  his  older  brother  made  it  hard  ,  with  all  the  brains  and  accomplishments  ,  the  only  thing  tarik  had  was  basketball  and  he  stuck  to  it  . 

malek  hayes  was  over  the  moon  when  his  youngest  son  took  a  liking  to  his  favourite  sport  ,  with  a  basketball  hoop  installed  on  the  family’s  driveway  ,  you  could  spot  young  tarik  playing  when  he  wasn’t  at  school  or  sleeping  .  his  neighbours  even  issued  a  noise  complaint  due  to  the  sound  of  a  bouncing  ball  12  hours  a  day  . 

what  once  was  an  innocent  passion  and  fun  quickly  became  a  competitive  and  demanding  sport  .  once  tarik  was  old  enough  to  take  basketball  seriously  ,  his  father  lost  no  time  signing  him  up  for  teams  &  training  camps  .  it  was  only  natural  that  the  boy  became  a  local  star  so  young  .  tarik’s  mother  never  liked  how  the  boy  neglected  his  homework  or  how  her  husband  let  him  get  away  with  it  .  his  tournaments  required  tarik  to  travel  all  over  ontario  and  spent  little  time  at  home  . 

he  was  also  part  of  the  oakville  club  ,  practicing  way  more  than  he  studied  ,  he  barely  got  by  at  school  and  that  was  because  his  father  asked  caleb  to  do  his  projects  for  the  little  basketball  star  . 

by  junior  year  ,  his  parents  were  sleeping  in  different  beds  ,  his  relationship  with  his  mother  wasn’t  something  tarik  was  proud  of  .  but  he  could  easily  forget  about  it  when  he  was  called  to  play  for  a  club  in  toronto  ,  one  of  the  best  ones  in  the  country  .  he  was  the  star  player  of  his  high  school  basketball  team  ,  now  towering  at  a  6’6  . 

despite  his  success  ,  his  father  was  never  satisfied  ,  which  meant  tarik  wasn’t  either  .  always  training  longer  hours  ,  spending  less  time  at  home  and  more  time  at  the  gym  . 

at  eighteen  he  got  a  full  –  ride  scholarship  to  a  university  in  chicago  .  strangely  enough  ,  his  father  followed  him  in  his  move.  he  claimed  that  he  could  find  another  job  and  he  would  love  to  see  his  progress  .  the  flight  ticket  came  with  stapled  divorce  papers  . • tarik  only  played  for  two  years  at  the  university  before  being  recruited  by  the  chicago  bulls  where  he  started  his  nba  journey  .  as  a  rookie  ,  he  got  more  game  time  than  some  other  guys  that  had  been  there  for  years  .  this  caused  a  bit  of  negative  attention  to  fall  on  the  point  guard  ,  but  he  decided  to  keep  improving  ,  this  was  just  the  beginning  . 

one  year  ago  when  his  contract  ended  ,  the  raptors  offered  him  one  and  tarik  was  over  the  moon  ,  his  favourite  team  offering  him  a  position  ??  he  quickly  signed  the  papers  and  flew  to  toronto • he  got  back  to  the  big  city  ,  trying  to  reconnect  with  his  mother  and  brother  but  failing  miserably  at  it  . 

the  new  position  &  the  pressure  from  his  family  was  too  much  for  the  twenty  -  three  year  old  to  handle  .  after  years  of  non  -  stop  work  ,  tarik  was  getting  sloppy  .  as  his  performance  decreased  ,  he  quickly  got  evaluated  and  they  said  he  was  on  the  edge  of  a  burnout  . 

time  off  was  prescribed  and  tarik  was  shipped  to  charleston  ,  sc  where  the  university  was  studying  burnout  in  young  athletes  . 

tl;dr  .  tarik  is  from  a  suburban  area  where  his  father  projected  his  failed  career  onto  him  and  made  him  train  numerous  hours  .  he  has  a  bad  relationship  with  his  mother  and  brother  because  he  neglected  everything  that  wasn’t  basketball  .  he  had  always  been  a  rising  star  .  he  first  played  for  the  chicago  bulls  and  now  is  with  the  raptors  .  he  had  to  take  a  little  pause  due  to  an  imminent  burnout  and  is  now  staying  at  charleston  ,  far  from  everything  he’s  ever  known. 

𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐋𝐈𝐓𝐘 

basically  tarik  is  one  of  the  most  hard-working  and  dedicated  people  out  there  .  when  he  has  his  eyes  set  on  something  he  will  get  it  .  he  is  not  used  to  things  coming  easy  . 

he’s  very  proud  especially  since  everyone  around  him  ,  including  his  father  ,  have  been  feeding  his  ego  for  years  now.  he  does  not  like  to  put  his  pride  aside  ,  which  unfortunately  comes  w  many  consequences  such  as  fist  fights  . 

to  tie  in  with  that  ,  tarik  is  known  to  be  a  bit  hot-headed  on  and  off  the  court  .  his  pride  fuels  him  and  he  does  not  tolerate  treatment  that  he  deems  unjust  .  sometimes  it  is  interpreted  as  his  way  or  the  highway. 

aside  from  that  ,  unprovoked  he  has  quite  a  chill  personality  .  he’s  a  man  of  few  words  with  those  he  doesn’t  know  but  once  you’re  friends  ,  he’s  arguably  one  of  the  goofiest  people  you’ll  ever  meet  .
