Just watched Matt Reeves' The Batman (2022) and was very pleased with so much, in particular with Zoë Kravitz's portrayal of Selina Kyle and the filmmakers' visual cues for the character.
For over 20 years now, DC creators have been promoting stylistic parallels between Selina Kyle and Golden Age icon Audrey Hepburn.
First, with Darwyn Cooke's instructions to other artists on how to draw her in the phenomenol 2001 Ed Brubaker Catwoman comic series...
Then Adam Hughes' gorgeous Audrey-inspired Catwoman pinups...
Then Anne Hathaway's Holly Golightly-on-the-run ensemble in The Dark Knight Rises (2012)...
And now Kravitz's Selina in The Batman.
Her black catsuit in particular, with its very simple, wasp-wasted silhouette, combined with a pixie cut, is very Audrey as she is towards the end of Sabrina (1954).
Not to mention the recreation of a certain scene from Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961). Sorry I couldn't get a better pic from the movie:
Anyway, can't wait to see more of what this particular Batman universe has to offer, and always welcome a good homage to Audrey. ❤️
