Max Minghella as Nick Blaine in The Handmaid's Tale (2017-2025)
Thank you Max for bringing to life the morally complex Nick Blaine for the past 6 years with such thoughtfulness.

As the great Marthas in season 4 said:
Fuck June Osborne
A lot of brave women died trying to protect her.
Everyone that helps her ends up on the fucking wall.
You’re better off without her.

I think this is what actually happened in the show.
June didn’t stop loving Nick. But she chickened out.
Not because Nick turned into some kind of monster, he didn’t. But because she couldn’t handle loving someone the world told her she wasn’t allowed to love.
The revolution. The resistance. The rules. Her mother. Luke. Mayday. Failed mission. The girls.
All of them told her: he’s wrong. He’s Gilead. He’s not your future. And instead of standing up for her own heart, she gave in.
And the cruelest part? She didn’t betray someone who deserved it. She betrayed the one man who had always stood by her, who had risked everything for her, who loved her without conditions.
She was a coward. The woman who gave speeches about “choosing love” couldn’t choose it for herself. Not when it actually mattered.
The song Hurts Like Hell feels like it was written about her.
Let’s break it down.
Feelings and thoughts Inside my head fight like adversaries 🎶
Her feelings and logic were at war. She loved him, but everyone told her she couldn’t. That it was wrong.
Your heart fits like a key into the lock on the wall
I turn it, I turn it, but I can’t escape🎶
She knew he was her escape. He had always been. But even when she tried to choose him, to unlock that door, to be free she couldn’t. Because the fear won.
I turn it over, I turn it over 🎶
She gives the key back. She lets go of the only person who ever gave her real freedom. And what’s left? Fucking nothing and I want to see it in the finale
I don’t want them to know the way I loved you
I don’t think they’d understand it
I don’t think they would accept me 🎶
She’s ashamed. Not of Nick but of herself. Because deep down, she knows: Her love for him was real. It healed her. It gave her strength.
But now it would make her unacceptable. Unforgivable.
So she buries it. Hides it. Pretends it didn’t exist. She lets the world define her. And in doing so, she betrays the only person who never asked her to be anything other than who she really was. And that’s the real tragedy. Not that Nick died. But that she didn’t fight for him. Not even a little.
Anyways that’s my headcanon. And I’m happy I made this video, it says it all. CHICKEN

This is how I will remember them... In love, fighting for each other. Fighting for their love. I'm not gonna let some lazy / shitty writing take that away from us. Season 6 doesn't exists. The June we knew would never have sacrificed Nick like that. The Nick we knew has never been a " fucking nazi ". He was so much more complex than that. I mean, c'mon, even Serena and Aunt Lydia can have their " redemption arc " but not him ? I hate what they did to them. Everything is so fucking out of character, it makes no sense. They wanted to kill Nick ? ( Even if he's supposed to be in the Testaments ). Okay. But let his death be meaningful. Let him die with purpose. So no, I reject this ending. I reject everything they've done. To me, it doesn't exists.
Love prevails. Always.

I don’t care what the anti osblaine or anti Nick people have to say to justify this utter shit show. Max’s reaction to this season being “oh I must have been playing Nick wrong for 5 seasons” is just proof that they completely wrote the character differently in s6 to making the ending work and that’s BAD writing. If you have to change the core of who a character is to make the ending work then it’s the wrong ending.

"I don’t know that I would have played everything the same in the past had I known that was where we were going to land. But that’s probably just naiveté on my part, so I wouldn’t say there was any shock. I just thought it was an interesting and bold decision." - Max Minghella

You guys have no idea how much I cried for the death of this fictional man, because he was more than just a couple, he was the representation that despite everything you can always find a good man in the most horrible places and they took all that and killed him as if he were worse than these women like Lydia and Serena who chose to torture their own gender for their benefit.
Being that Nick was one of the characters who sacrificed the most and put himself in danger to protect June, and the most horrible thing is knowing that June allowed that death, seeing the person who gave everything for her and doing nothing for a mistake that she caused over and over again, I am not the least bit happy with anything that happened

No matter how you feel about Nick Blaine, that ending made absolutely no sense from a narrative or character arc perspective. Not to mention the fact they're completely changing The Testaments series to erase both Nick and Nicole/Daisy.

You know what’s equally worse? Not only did they gaslight us and make us think we were crazy and stupid for believing what they clearly showed us in Nick and Osblaine but they also GASLIT MAX and made him feel dumb for the way he played his character for 6 years! They made him feel like he was in the wrong like he was the too stupid to grasp what was in the script. That is fucking heinous.
