THERE IS ALWAYS A PRESENCE OF GREAT BEGINNING BEHIND EVERY SUCCESS.
Periodization is the technique historian used to “categorize the past to discrete quantified, named blocks of time in order to facilitate study and analysis of history; this results in descriptive abstraction that provide convenient terms for periods of time with relatively stable characteristics”, according to Course.lumenlearning.com. Throughout AP World History, where the past is divided into six periods, the uniqueness of each timeline is emphasized. Period 2 is known for the raise of powerful and largest civilization in the West and East; America was found as the result of Age of Exploration in Period that change the world economy forever, or the intensified of globalization and wars that killed billion of people in Period 6 that make the world change its perspective about wars and technology potential. Being said, every period has its own characteristic that no others can be found. In my opinion, the most interesting one is the foundation of all, Period 1, because of its influence and peace.
Tumblr media
Period 1 has not only laid the foundation for later civilizations (aka our future), but also marked the change in human society after million years of existing. Everyone knows the AP emphasized the opening of Agriculture Revolution for its impact in the altering the way human live, from nomaid to domestication, and finally, settlement. About 30,000 years ago, after the evolution of H.sapiens, modern human lived a nomadic lifestyle, which required hunting, gathering, moving constantly, and because the limitation in food source, the number of members in a group is very limited. However, after the introduction of agriculture, more food was grown, and the diversity of food was also increased. From this new advantage, people started to settle in groups, later grew in villages, and gradually became expansive civilizations. In these ancient societies, hierarchy has made its way by having men worked in the field while women stayed at home. Gradually, this culture has made its way till today’s society. For that reason, it could be said that agriculture revolution in Period 1 changed and played role in influencing our society, even though it has happend for more than 25,000 years.
Tumblr media
Not only did it promoted the social hierarchy system, we also are allowed to communicate through writing and keeping records by what happened in this period. According to the book named The History of the World in Six Glasses bt Tom Standage, the author makes his point about the relationship between modernity and beer as  for beer’s function in the history. But why we are mentioning beer? Well, base on this time records, they said that beer was discovered as the remaining wheat and grains fermented with fruit in the warehouses in Mesopotamia region after the revolution occurred. They also said that as beer become common drink, beer was drank from a big jar set in the middle of each “house”, in order to drink this amazing substance, people have to suck up from the tube, which were similar to draw, which mean, it is the symbol of trust and united. Everyone started from the same place and go through every together, therefore, if someone wants to poison the others, they also poison themselves. Continuing the high demand of this new drink, wheat and grains turned into valuable resources and the excess should be kept in the warehouse with a record. From that need, writing was invented. Its first form was consisted of symbols of jars (beer), wheat, and things are related to the drink. By the end of Period, we can see that the idea of new drinks different than water, the symbol of gathering into big groups, and writing that can be found in 21st century were developed just from one single period. Therefore, we can say that there is no other periods that is more impactful than the first one.
Tumblr media
Another distinguish of this period is its promoting of gathered communities and peaceful picture. You can take my bias of a person living in Period 6, who has seen both advantages and disadvantages of wars, in to the account, therefore, I like this characteristic of this time. It is could be said that the Period is the last time that the Earth can be free of wars and conflicts, globally, in human history.

THE LAST BLOG! WHICH PERIOD IS THE BEST?!?! (Yoon Geon)
Hello everyone!!! Guess what!?!?! We finally reached the end of our journey!!! Finally we only have one last blog review left!!! I know it’s kind of sad to leave our lovely WHAP CLASS but I’m sure that u guys all excited about not doing WHAP any more. Am I right? HAHAHA. Anyway, we have been talking about many different periods and topics. We had all those exciting debate and fun activities!! To SUM UP all those topics, our final review will dealing with the whole period and will state my own opinion about WHICH PERIOD IS COOLESET? I heard lots of different opinion here. I hear period 1, period 3, period 4… WOW this is crazy! So many good opinions coming up!! Yes I agree with all of you… All periods are awesome and cool however, I have one special period that I think is the best!!! I wanna tell you guys right now but I will first talk about the whole period and the whole journey we followed for last one year to recall our memory to help us to figure out which period is the BEST!
Tumblr media
Start with period one! Period one can be best describe as the period of foundation. As the phrase states, lots of things has been discovered and lots of things has been ‘first’ used or achieved. For example, fire has been first discovered, boat has been first discovered. Also people first migrated throughout the continents and they have been spread throughout the world. Following that, period two can be best describe as the period of empires. Lots of empires have been founded and lots of great kings have been achieved lots of different goals. For examples, Persian, Alexander the great, or Greece empires had huge influence throughout the world with their power. Silk Road also has been opened during this period and the great wall also has been constructed during this period. One more important thing about this period is that during this period, people experience the change of time from what we call B.C.E. to C.E. Period three can be best describe as the period of revolution. Lots of revolutionary movements and discovery has been made during this period. For example, Crusaders, Vikings, or early Japan empires were revolutionary enough to influence the entire world. Also gun powder, Grand Canal, or Tenochtitlan has been discovered during this period. Period four can be best describe as the period of global interaction. Many countries started to trade in global scale which making many countries develop quicker and with diversity. However, at the same time, there has been lots of situation which one stronger country conquers another relatively weaker country. For example, Portuguese, Spanish, Britain or those strong countries in Europe started to conquer weak countries in Africa or Asia and exploited them for their benefits. Period five can be best describe as the period of industrialization and more global interactions. Some strong countries like British or Spain continued to conquer or exploit weaker countries. At the same time, triangular trade which happened between America, Europe, and Africa has been developed especially slave trade has been developed which dividing class among people. Lastly, period six can be best describe as the period of globalization and changes. People started to control environments, the biggest two wars occurred, scientific developments help people to live longer and travel the space. All those changes occurred in global scale and this period is still going on.
Tumblr media
Wow that was lot of works. I clearly can feel that there were a lot that we learned and I surely think we should be proud of ourselves. Now I will finally tell which period I like the most with specific reason. Straight to the point, I personally think that the period 1 is the best period above all. It is because that I believe that always the beginning of the coolest and the best. Beginning should be well founded and introduced in order to make entire story cooler and more interesting and I strongly think that period one did that very well. During period one, the period of discovery, people has been first discovered and they spread throughout the world. This actually has been foundation for everything and this actually boosted everything to be start. It seems like period is not taking that much amount when we see the entire of the history but I believe that small amount have huge value in entire of the history and I personally think that it’s much cooler than any other periods.
Tumblr media
So I guess this is it for my last the last blog. :(((( I’m really sad about the fact that I’m not writing any more blog and I can’t get to share anymore opinions with you guys. I hope you guys enjoyed my last blog and I hope you guys to the great historian! I would like to end up with one last phrase one of my teacher always used. DON’G FORGETS TO BE THE BEST! THANK YOU!

most significant period?
War is no longer a fresh word to people nowadays. Since the beginning of this period 6, more and more war and revolutions take place and it became the step of being nowadays. In my personal opinion, period 6 is the most interesting, significant and also densely related to current period because there were lots of events that changed our society, histories and even politics, for example WW1 and WW2.
Tumblr media
First of all, new technologies and science has been rising up in this period. After the Industrial revolution and green revolution, people don’t need to work like before. And also, goods and food production is increased because now we can produce a lot of stuff in short time. Everything becomes faster and it also applies to transportations (like plane or bus) and new way of communication. We can text, call and video call even though we are in different country and even in different space moreover different planet! Space exploration is not just a fantasy now. Space race between USSR and US made it possible. They both tried to succeed spaceflight first and their competition made a huge step of human history.
Second major event in period6 is globalization. Global population is increased and changed human interaction with the environment. Increasing of consumption led to deforestation, desertification and greenhouse gases has led to climate change. Since we have too many people and changing of environment, more and more diseases comes up and at the same time, a lot of vaccines are invented in order to control birth control and also diseases.
Tumblr media
As I mentioned before, there were lots of war and it led to global conflicts, too. Global political order shifted from Europe to new powers. For Europeans, their power maintained control over colonies until after WW2. After WWII, colonies negotiated power or fought for independence like Vietnam and South Korea, Kenya. These movements began from anti-imperialism. Nationalist leaders in Asia and Africa are evoked by anti-imperialism and that led them to sought independence (Gandhi, Ho Chi Minh, Kwame).
Due to war and revolution, demographic is the most distinctive changes. Of course soldiers and citizens are sacrificed and it increased casualties. Additionally, holocaust is the biggest part of casualties and still, it left a lot of hates and depressions.
Tumblr media
I learned period 1 to 6, however, I’m pretty sure choosing the most interesting and significant period is tough question. History is gorgeous and precious. We cannot measure the value of history because it’s fact and reality. Every period has significant figures and all of them are meaningful to us. In period 6, countless and numberless of events were happened and still some of them are happening. Again, I choose P6 because I think it’s now and I’m living in period 6. Sometimes I feel like those events are really old and past (but it’s not actually). I don’t know that future generation will think this period as a significant one or not, however, I hope this period will be helpful and meaningful to next generation as like I feel now.

period 6 is cool
To me, period 6 is the most affected human lives both today and the past. Period 6 impacts the most on the individual, local communities, social groups, and nations and civilizations.
First of all, I would like to talk about the medical field of period 6 that changes the world a whole new level. Antibiotics can be defined as a substance derived from bacteria sources to kill or stop the growth of bacteria. It can be seen as the most common and beneficial way in the medical field that we’re still using today to prevent flu, smallpox… Another cool invention that was created in period 6 was the artificial heart. The device that replaces the real heart, it used to bridge the time during the surgery or can use to replace the real heart if needed. It is an effective way for people to maintain their heartbeat and prevent death from happening. Both of inventions that I mentioned can be seen as the most badass shit that ever happened. Besides medical, the idea of space exploration is what separates period 6 with another period because if we look before period 6. Those period are filled with colonization other countries to gain their power. But do you ever imagine there was a day that people can escape Earth and go to the Moon? The space race started on August 2, 1955, when USSR and US are competing on their science revolution. The Soviet Union launched its first launch, orbiting of Sputnik 1, and became the first person who been to the first space orbit. But on July 20, 1969, US landing on their first human on the Moon with Apollo 11. Personally, the race between the US and USSR are the most intensive battle in the science field I ever heard of. Because we’re looking at flying to another planet and that’s a big deal right there. The US and USSR are fighting to show their power of conquering the universe. Not only that, the discovery of space can be seen as a foundation to invented things like the internet, satellites… that we’re using today.
Tumblr media
Lastly, the Green Revolution does not really sound cool to most of us but really shaped the period. It started from the 50s and 60s of the twentieth century. Fertilizers, cross-breeding in planting… has increased strongly on crops like rice, corn… Since the demand and population increasing every day, the shortage of food becomes a real problem. So having these methods can prevent famine and shortage of food from happening. It affected countries like India, their food production reached 20 million tons. Which never happens for a really long time.
Tumblr media
Overall, I think period 6 is cool because of how related the period is to our world today. The technology, method, and thinking being created are what we are using today. Stone Age is the foundation of humankind, but when we talk about period 6 is the innovation of humankind that leads to the 21st century that we’re living right now. Maybe in the future, there will be period 7 and it probably happens when we have World War 3 or event that effect on a big scale of people.
That’s it for my last blog for WHAPPPPPPP!!!!!!

Hello, it's Period 6
Period six, accelerating global change and realignment, is a favorite period of mine throughout the history that was taught in class. Although I might be biased and showing my favor towards period six (1900’s to present), I have seen the most noticeable changes in period six, and these changes intrigue me, as it relates to me today.
We have seen rapid advancements in science and technology around the world. New communication tools (internet, electronic phones, transportation, etc.) have been introduced to this time period, making lives more convenient for everyday use. I personally use the technology of this time period, and I agree that it helps introduce leisure to my life. Not only does it introduce comfort, but it also introduces longevity. Medical advancements like vaccines and antibiotics extend life expectancy, making humans live much longer than before. Instead of living to 70, one can live up to 100 without much problem. Back then, that was something that was rarely seen. Due to the technology increase, I now can have time to plan up to 90 if I wanted to. It also gives me comfort that I can spend time to see my loved ones for a longer time than before.
Tumblr media
In this time period, empires dissolved and restructured as a consequence of emerging anti-imperialist ideologies, such as Ho Chi Minh. This affects me directly because I was born in a country where it broke off from colonization of the French and Americans and became its own separate country. This, in particular, shaped the way Vietnam is structured today, and it shaped the way I grew up. The war is also very prevalent in my family, as my grandfather was a soldier in fighting for freedom from American colonization.
Tumblr media
As a person who advocates for peace, I feel more personally connected to the non-violent movements in this period of time that challenged the change by war ideologies. Martin Luther King Jr. was someone who impacted history through his movements on black rights, and it is someone I have studied in history for a period of time. I remember him specifically from his contribution to society and his efforts to make a world more equal and just for people of all races (especially the blacks, of course). Because of such, I felt as if he was somewhat inspirational, and I, too, wish that I could make a change like him. Maybe it won’t be a big change, but it will be a change nevertheless.
Tumblr media
Overall, period six was a major personal one for me. Because it impacts many aspects of my life and my environment (and possibly my future), I feel attracted to this period, and therefore, it is my favorite out of the six.

Period 5 Tops Off All the Other Periods!
Tumblr media
Welp this is really it! The “LAST BLOG” of for this class *cries*. Throughout the whole school year, I’ve learned so much about world history. It wasn’t easy, but it sure was one heck of a journey! Doesn’t the idea of how we humans practically started off from hunter gatherers into this cRazY modern human society today amaze you?
Okay now moving on, the big question here is “What’s the coolest period (out of the six) from World History? And Why?” Well in my opinion, it’s got to be, hands down, period 5, “The Industrial Revolution”!! It’s one of those periods that really stood out to me the most, and I had the most fun learning about. Plus I have some background knowledge on this period, because of this American Girl movie I watched in 6th grade (“American Girl: Samantha”; highly recommend you to watch it, since it really helped me on this topic).
Tumblr media
Now onto the “Why” factor. Well first off, thanks to industrialization, it significantly changed how goods were produced. It all started off in Britain, where manufacturing was done at peoples’ homes most of the time, with the use of HANDS or tools. With the inventions, such as the steam engine, which was improved thanks to James Watt, it’s fundamentally changed the industrialization of Britain. Without him, we’d probably still be sewing on own clothes to wear to school. It then later on spread to America, because of Samuel Slater, who brought the secret of Britain’s textile industry into the country. Soon industrialization was shifted into power and came along the factories and the mass production of goods as well. Now in today’s world, the United States is completely transformed and grew into one of the largest economies in to world.
Tumblr media
For “average people” (emphasize on the word average), before the Industrial Revolution, life would’ve been pretty difficult. Most of the people that lived in small, rural communities, work loads revolved around farming. Their incomes were also very low. The Industrial Revolution raised the standards of living for many people, such as the middle and upper classes. For the poorer classes, not so much. Though factories did provide jobs, many of those jobs were in low working conditions and for unskilled workers that can be replaced by the second. Child labor was also a thing, in which children were hired to work in such hazardous conditions.
Okay, before things get misleading, I mentioned poor working conditions such as child labor to prove a point of how efficient things were starting to be during this period, not to consider it as “cool”. Even though things weren’t in the best, it did lead to a more faster pace in life. Plus it’s kind of a funny comparison on how kids back then were working so hard with their jobs, while kids now are stressing out about things like who to hang out with this weekend. I mean some kids now do jobs at a young age to make money, but it’s probably simple chore jobs, like your mom paying you to wash the dishes. Stuff like that can’t be compared to what those kids in the past had to suffer! This upcoming meme explains what I’m trying to say heh.
Tumblr media
What made the Industrial Revolution so cool was how it has brought an increased variety and amount of goods. Not only that, but it also improved the systems of transportation, communication, and banking! For example, TRAINS!! Or “steam locomotives”, because that’s what they’re traditionally called (still prefer to call them trains). Another invention is the telegraph, which revolutionized long distance communication. I mean it’s not really my type of technology, since I prefer my iphone wayy more. It’s so much easier to text my friends through SnapChat, than trying to figure out morse code. But it’s a good start on efficient communication.
Tumblr media
Anyways that sums up mostly of what the Industrial Revolution is and what makes it so cool. Also thanks Mr. Matt for a good year of teaching!! Good luck everybody on your exams next next week. Don’t be one of those people that just spend their last minutes cramming everything in their heads! REMEMBER TO STUDY HARD!!!!!
This is Justine, signing off on her last blog :( xoxo

Age of Science Fiction
The most badass period from World History for me is undoubtedly period 6. This is because it is the only period that have me in it. On a more serious note, I believe period 6 is the most badass because of the rapid change it has while only existing in a short time span. Period 1 (where we see technological and environmental transformations) lasted for 7400 years. Period 2 (organization of human societies) lasted for 1200 years. Period 3 (regional and transregional interactions) lasted for 850 years . Period 4 (global interactions): 300 years. Period 5 (industrialization): 150 years. Period 6 (global change acceleration), however, only lasted about 100 years so far. The changes in these 100 years are so distinct that period 6 meets all the requirements to be its own period. How badass is that?
Tumblr media
So why are those changes so badass? First of all, period 6 achieved a huge change that never remained in the past periods: decolonization. Yes, empires had fallen in the past including the fall of the Roman Empire and the British Empire losing its 13 colonies. However, these empires never truly fallen as they gained back their control one way or another. The Holy Roman Empire rose from the past Roman Empire while the British Empire gained control of India and Africa later on. Yet, empires never gained back power in period 6. This was largely due to the two world wars that weakened these empires under the wars’ aftermaths. Never before had the world fought wars that involved almost everyone. This resulted in an independent Africa, Southeast Asia, and India. Even Vietnam, my own country, gained independence because France and Japan had to worry for their own countries after the wars! Never before the fall of empires truly remained as each country now stands on its own in period 6.
Tumblr media
A change I personally believe is the coolest that makes period 6 the most badass is space exploration. Never before had humans have the technology nor the incentive to go to space. Colonization and land control had always been a common theme in all five periods. However, it wasn’t until after the two world wars’ devastation that the idea of war and colonization lost their “coolness.” It wasn’t then that the two global powers at the time, USA and USSR, found one of the other ways rather than war to compete: space. Consequently, on Oct. 4, 1957, the Soviets launched the first artificial satellite into space and on 13 September 1959, USA put men on the moon. It is the first and the only period where men came out of their home and touched space. If that’s not badass, I don’t know what badass is anymore.
Tumblr media
In the end, period 6 is the most badass period for me because of all those crazy changes above that truly change our civilization in only a one hundred year span. Perhaps one day, when we enter period 7 (if we have not already), we will look back and see how far we’ve come from period 6. Perhaps period 7 is then the period that all science fiction fans look forward to: the period of aliens.

Period 6 - The Bright Light of world History by Khoa Vu
Tumblr media
Wasup everyone! Looks like this is the final one, 14 days until the exam!!! I just want to say thank you for all of your supports throughout this amazing year and best luck to our revisions for the exam in the next two weeks. Before I talk about my favorite period which is period 6, one more time I want to say thank you to all of the heroes and great scientists in the human history for their dedications.
Tumblr media
From the foundations era until now, the period in between 1900s was the most revolutionary era in world history. There were no major war or revolutions resulting in a more peaceful time period. This was the most revolutionary period in world history because many aspects of everyday life were beginning to change. These major changes are compromised of six transformations in everyday life. These changes paved the way for the modern world to become what it is today.
Tumblr media
The first significant agent of transformation and change was the Second Wave of the Industrial Revolution. This time around it was not concentrated in one area but it was a global industrial revolution. It occurred in the Europe, American, Japan, and particular parts in the South America. The Second Wave of the Industrial Revolution was deeply scientific and technological. Practical application of science was used in the major industries of the time which include: steel, petroleum, electricity, and chemicals. With these new technological advances, new products were created such as the internal combustion engine, cars, telephone, electric light, ect. All of these new products revolutionize everyday life and make communication and transportation easier. Even changes were made agriculture which creates a global market for food. New methods of preservation of food were created and over-sea transportation became rapid.
Tumblr media
The second agent of transformation and change was urbanization which was made possible by the Second Wave of the Industrial Revolution. Urbanization was a result of the industrial revolution because industries need to be large when they begin in order to produce a large capital and investments. These large plants need millions of industrial workers therefore people started to move to cities in order to get jobs. Urbanization was revolutionary because people uprooted themselves from their traditional lifestyles and they were now susceptible to new ideas.
Tumblr media
The third and fourth agents of transformation and change are connected. The third agent was the sudden revolution in literacy. During this time period, mass literacy was beginning all due to mass public education which was made possible through urbanization. Schools were created in cities with a great amount of people because it was cheaper and one could educate a greater amount. Ultimately, the Second Wave of the Industrial Revolution should be thanked for mass literacy because a tax base was created for the bases of education. Education and mass literacy were powerful resources and allowed people to formulate their own ideas thus resulting in patriotism. The fourth agent was the creation of popular journalism. By 1900, the newspaper and journal industry is revolutionized because now they were catering to mass audiences due to mass literacy. Since newspapers and journals were the only means of communication, they needed a fast way to get paper but they also needed to be affordable. So newspapers were sold at low prices and made their money all through advertising. The most revolutionary action made through journalism was the creation of “yellow journalism” which promoted sensationalism and scandals. Modern topics were created to appeal a wider audience.
Tumblr media
The fifth agent of transformation and change was mass social organizations. Since people uprooted themselves from their traditional lifestyles in order to find work for themselves in the cities, people were beginning to look for activities to connect with people. Therefore, the Second Wave of the Industrial Revolution and urbanization inadvertently contributed to the creation of mass social organizations. Mass social organizations included different sports clubs and gardening clubs. Also, during this time period labor unions were beginning to form in order for the ordinary, working class to exercise control over their wages, working and life conditions.
The final agent of transformation and change was the nature of politics. The way in which politics was organized and practiced was revolutionary. During 1870 and 1914, there was steady expansion of suffrage and by 1914 there was universal male suffrage. Therefore, the size of the electorate grew and they needed to connect to a larger and more diverse population that they were not used too. Since all classes were represented now, instead of only the elites, there were more conflicts regarding fundamental issues and concerns. This forced politics to become more organized and structured. Political parties became political institution and continue to exist. There existence can be attributed to mass communication through newspapers and urbanization. People could now read political propaganda through mass literacy and make their own decisions.
In conclusion, these six X-Factors have shown the reason why period 6 was one of the most impactful and significant period throughout the human history. Not only it showed the continuity of the human civilization but also the big advancement of human life development. One of the most obvious evidence for this is the worldwide explosion 💥 of supreme technologies such as APPLE, SAMSUNG, Chinese’s SUPER FAKE PRODUCTS,... Period 6, as a second great grandfather of the world’s evolution (behind period 5), was and will always be the best instructor for this world to reach further and further and will never stop.

Should we consider one period is important than the other- Tho Hau
Humankind’s history is a magic. We have so far completed our mighty quests: from the cradle of civilization on towards the stars. They are all accomplished in only around 10,000 years or in 6 periods. Although many historians consider period 5 or period 6 as the most significant one, all of periods should be justified to be as important as the other because each set the foundation to the following one, each has its distinct values, and each has similar patterns.
First, each obviously set the foundation to the following one. If you want to justify the period you choose is the most significant one, ask yourself this question: How would the period have been without the previous one (for period 1 consider what happened during Paleolithic Era)? The answer must be totally different. How could major empires such as Persian, Roman, and China have established in period 2 without the cradle of civilization in those areas in period 1. Or how could Industrial Revolution have happened in Europe in period 5 without mercantilism and Columbian Exchange which had been already established in period 4? From those questions, it can be inferred that one period couldn’t keep its significant features without the previous one as we build a house from its substructure but not from the roof.
Second, each leaves its distinguished values that makes it as a true period. History is not just about figures and events but also is about features. For example, period 1 shows the rise of civilization while period 2 depicts the rise of major empires and period 3 describes the age of nomads. Those distinct features set up questions about aspects whether a period have the most significant and coolest to our modern life or to life of societies in that period from changes. For instance, human life in period 1 has strong significant changes as from hunting and gathering to hierarchy and kingdoms while period 5 and 6 has enormous echoes to our life today. Besides, period 2, 3, and 4 witness the transformation of government system, established of major religions, and the advent of global trading. After each period, our society becomes better with more wealth and the gap of power between classes gets closer. The purpose study history is to consider how significance into both aspects to avoid making mistake as well as intent to improve life. Hence, make all significant as the other is the fair choice in equally caring and analyzing those periods.
Third, each period also has similar patterns to the other. They show the rise of mighty empires with their dream of conquests and the fall of them with destruction and diseases. Yet after the ashes from the fall, new possibilities arose. We accelerated our science knowledge, production and explored new ways in trading and governing to get over the past. Also, human in all period created wonderful things from what they have left from previous one. From the Enlightenment at the late of period 4, for example, human discovered new methods in getting further human rights with more freedom government and equality between us. We cannot expect our ancestors were capable of making as much production in period 3 from legacies of period 2 as comparing to production in period 5 from what period 4 left. Incredible achievements human made after each period should be considered equally, which therefore all periods need to be as significant as the other.
The idea in considering one period as more significant the other one shapes how majority of people have the perspective to the world today. They “worship” the western culture and values for their great achievements in Industrialization, weapons, and the medicine in recent periods while they’ve never mentioned of cultures and values of East Asia and Middle East. It’s also the idea above that makes them forget Asian once experienced Golden Age and far more superiority than Europe in every fields.
In conclusion, we must consider all periods in our human history as important as the other because of foundation, distinct values, and similar patterns. From curiosity and ambition, mankind has overcome all challenges to cope with the Earth as well as associating with each other. We need to preserve those characteristics from our ancestors to continue making further steps reaching the limit of knowledge as well as the paths of improving and accelerating they left.

Foundations
Of all the time periods covered in the AP World History, "Foundations" spans the largest number of years, lasting from 8000 BCE to roughly 600 BCE. It is an example of periodization which divides the long expanse of past time into different ages. Each historical period has some fundamental features of society, culture, politics, and ideas that give the time an underlying unity and set it apart from earlier and later times. In my opinion, "foundations" is the most important period in World History that this era sets the very first stage for humanity.
Tumblr media
The beginning of foundations is associated with an important event – human migration. The first humans probably emerged in eastern Africa, due to a happy confluence of availability of food and domestic animals and favorable climate. For thousands of year, humans sustained themselves as hunters and gatherers, and they were quite dependent on the abundance of food as a result. Technological inventions generally supported the fulfillment of these basic activities. Stones were shaped as tools and weapons, and techniques were developed for efficient gathering and storage of food. By 8000 BCE, humans had migrated to many other areas in the entire world, following the herds and other available food sources.
Tumblr media
In the field of social structure, most people traveled in small bands, and authority was based on family relationships. Men took leadership roles, but women were highly valued for their gathering skills. Labor was generally divided based on gender, with men as hunters and women as gatherers. However, status differences between men and women were generally not wide, with relative gender equality apparently characterizing their group life. In religious beliefs, archaeological evidence suggests that prehistoric people were guided by their beliefs in spirits and sacred places. Their cave drawings and traces of their cultural objects indicate that they believed in an afterlife, which laid the strong foundation for the birth of the religions later on. After migrating, humans settled to live in one place that it happened in different parts of the world at different times, but settled communities had developed in many places by 8000 BCE. The ability to settle was based almost entirely on successful cultivation of crops and domestication of animals. So the Neolithic Revolution occurred and its changes include the increase in reliable food supplies and total human population, job specialization, and widening of gender differences. These changes, in turn, allowed the development of civilization which is a basic organizing principle in world history.
Tumblr media
Consequently, there are many breakthrough developments such as monumental architecture, public building projects, complex political organization, written language, specialization of labor, and long-distance trade. Some of them lay the foundation for other developments at the present such as irrigation systems, legal codes, use of money, written literature, and numbering systems. As technologies improved and specialization increased, trade with other civilization centers began that it led to cultural diffusion or the spreading and sharing of cultural characteristics. Not only was material culture shared, but nonmaterial culture also spread widely. The development of civilization in this period was a positive light that it separated human from wild animals. The important thing is that it dramatically changed the lifestyle of human, improving the growth of prosperity and the quality of their life.

Guess it’s our life now Period 5 - Jack
The coolest period in world history for me is period 5. This is the age of revolutions. Period 5 eventually gave way to our modern life today. The industrial revolution is the catalyst for our current life. Not since the agriculture revolution that our lives change as drastically as the lives in period 5.
Tumblr media
In period 5, with the creation of a steam engine, machines became more and more efficient for every iteration. They became faster than human at producing goods. The invention of interchangeable parts, as well as a new factory system, lead to the decline demand for artisans’ jobs. This created jobs in the factories and people start to move from the country side to cities in the process of urbanization to look for new opportunity. But just like anything new and awesome, human started to exploit it. The long work hour and the poor working conditions lead to horrible conditions and health risks for the workers. These health hazards lead to death and the rise of unions for workers that helped them to fight for their own benefits. That is the story in the U.S. But in Europe, it gave rise to communism and the ideology forged by Karl Marx. Communism gave the worker incentives to rise up and take what they deserved from the rich factories owner that didn’t about the workers.
Tumblr media
The industrial revolution also created time keeping. Before nothing is strict, people wake up at sunrise and work until sunset. But now, factories have strict hours, therefore people need to wake up at specific time. This helped to create a more efficient work and better production. Now, people need to always have a clock by their sides at all time or they risked getting fired. Keeping never been more important for us. Nowadays, we all wake up at a specific time. Go to school on time. Tardiness will lead to set back in our own lives.
Tumblr media
Period 5 also lead to globalization. We now have airplanes and ships that takes only a few days to move goods from one corner of the world to the other. Factories can now produce goods with supplies that came from across the world. Raw materials are harvest in other countries and then produce in another. This helped to create even more jobs and benefits the economy. Nowadays, thanks to globalization that seeded in period 5, life is so much easier. The abundance of goods helped us to have things like phone, laptops, kitchen utensil right at our arm reach as well as at a cheaper price. Life has never been better thanks to the improvement in period 5.

My YOUTUBE CHANNEL is going to be deleted? THE REAL ENDGAME?
A snap from Thanos wipes out my whole Dogers and Youtube channel!
Roger Pham “selecting his favorite period”
Yo Yo yo mi amigos, it’s your boy right here Roger Doger and welcome back to today’s vlog. Day 59, I don’t know what to say Dogers my homies yo i already know this has been real since i have you fans supporting since day 1. A quick shoutout to my biggest fan, Sir Matt. Listen mustangs THIS IS NOT A CLICKBAIT and it has been confirmed that this will be MY LAST VIDEO... Sir. Matt if you are watching this, i just gotta tell this man how much i love him and i will express this appreciation through giving you one of my merches. FOLLOW THIS DUDE RIGHT NOW @bailey_mp Dogers you guys know who is the real champ.
Now it has finally come down to this haizzzzzzz should have expected it sooner but i will be reacting to my personal favorite episode of 6 periods on my youtube channel. Will i found out something interesting? Will this still be my favorite period after this? Stayed tune because this video of mine will explain it all. Roll the intro *snap the finger*
Tumblr media
Okay before you write any mean comments, i gotta say that as a professional historian with integrity, i only do this for you guys as a goodbye when in fact, i love these 6 periods the same and i only tell the truth. TO ME, period 5 is definitely my baby in terms of coolness and interesting events. Well, it is also the period where my grades were the highest hihi^^ but i will only talk about how interesting it is. YASSSSSSS baby gurl.
Tumblr media
First of all, what makes it so interesting is how much can i can relate to the topic. As for my origin, the northern education mainly focuses on history of the wars during the 5th period. As a learner with special interests in engineering, period 5 is my jackpot since woohoo that is when everything relating to the factories and manufacturing jobs appeared (NOT TO MENTION, I’M ALSO CLOSE TO CHINA!!!). Furthermore, i also took government and economics so i had nearly no struggles when it comes to studying about the Imperialism and the Industrialism era. The difference was i get to now dig deeper to find the motives for these moves and witness how the UK became the world’s ruler (To be honest, that’s pretty lit yo!)
Tumblr media
Think about it this way, clearly we all love monopoly. Period 5 can be viewed as a monopoly game with a larger scale. To a school jock like me, things like that attracts so much attention from me that i would find more about it. And the more i think about imperialism, it explains the existence of Industrialization itself and so as other events. Everything here is connected when period 5 explains why the World Wars occurred and how the UK was the strongest despite for its size. It was when i found out that the size of the country doesn’t determine one’s strength if you can’t use the advantages. I really learned a lot from just one period through connecting it to many subjects that i took earlier. Everything was linked so perfectly like the 6 infinity stones Thanos has. DONT SPOIL IT FOR ME I HAVENT WATCHED IT YET.
Tumblr media
Now, for having Industrialism and Imperialism co-exist, it tends to boosts up the process of these revolutions which brings outstanding results with trains being invented, making many economic flow grow uncontrollably fast. Thus, what gave me so much hype about this period is how i look at it as a business man and how countries do tradings that benefited them the most. Also, they basically turned the world around 2 times where they completely changed how family life works from being on farms together to only see each other for meals. They set this ideal concept of being strong as “more lands come with more power” which i still find to be true these days.
Tumblr media
Hey Dogers can we really have a moment here for my true feelings towards this dope mentor. At the beginning of the year, i felt lost, unsure, and definitely lacks a lot of confidence. However, this man right here, motivated me to keep following my path because there is no right paths if you don’t try to go on one. He is my inspiration for making this youtube channel, the Dogers, and my merch. It has been a crazy journey and i enjoyed every moments of it. It does feel sad that the year went by so fast and without realizing it, i actually learned a lot more than what i expected due to my ability. It has been good, Roger Dodger is out mane
Tumblr media
Also buy my merch here I GOTTA MAKE MONEY TO LIVE GUYS
I really enjoyed the time where i write but i felt joy in there and ignored the whole word count. This blog activity made me feel like i’m home and fully expressed myself.
Without any pranks, This has been my endgame to you bros *tap out.

The Industrial Revolution
My favorite period out of he 6 is period 5 because it was the time of the beginning of modern times. During period 5, Industrial revolution happened and it was a big leap to a new chapter of world history. I find this period interesting because it was a new way of controlling the world. The industrial revolution changed econonmy as well as people. It also led to countries establishing itself, as well as the continuous problem of slavery.
Tumblr media
Although the event that led up to the Industrial revolution was the Age of Exploration, but the Industrial revolution impacted the world in different way. Since the Industrial revolution, economy of different areas increased massively due to the mass products being produced in factories. Socially, it has now created unequal societies. Craftsmen who once were masters of their work, are now nothing to the society since machines could replicate the exact product. The middle class became rich, and the working class suffered.
Tumblr media
It is interesting that from that time on, many new governmential systems started to develop in order to keep an orderly country. The new systems of government is the fundamental base of what our modern world is. Democracy and Communism were the 2 well known systems. Due to the difference of the new governmential system,s disagreements between countries arose and that led to war. Cold War, followed the WW1 and WW2 transformed our world. Since the Industrial revolution, wars are now more deadly. The inventio of atomic bombs, tanks, machine guns  have created a terrifying atmosphere when it comes to war. Wars were viewed as holy before the Industrial revolution, but not anymore.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Since factories required labor, slavery was a problem. Europeans started transporting black slaves into their factories to work with very little wage. Women as well as children were also forced to work. The factory’s environment lead to diseases. Along with work labor producing mass products, rise in economy, areas satrts establishing themselves as independent countries. Nationalism was a phenomenon during that period. Countries become independent and had their own governmential systems.
Tumblr media
Since countries are now establishing themselves, they wanted land and more land. This led to imperialism, bigger countries establishing colonies in other parts of the world declaring that its their own.
Tumblr media
In my opinion, I find the Industrial revolution interesting and a change in world history because of the reasons above. It was a big switch from old life to new life. It was a change from agriculture to industrial. A step to the modern day.

Period 6 is the best out of six ~ Tony Nguyen
Last week, we had a debate about whether period 6 differs or not compared to other periods. Although the result turns out that nobody wins, but for me, this debate is a distinct example for the fact that period 6 is too complex and significant for us, AP World History student, to fully interpret it. Anyway, despite that every period has its own “special feature”, in my opinion, period 6 is still the most interesting or somewhat significant era for human history since it is assumedly an “Age of Extreme” according to Andrew Marr’s history of the world BBC – include extreme level of globalization led to amazing impacts in S.P.I.C.E (Social, Politics, Interaction with environment, culture, and economics) – compared to the previous periods.
Tumblr media
First of all, why period 6 is personally an “Age of Extreme”? Let me explain briefly this terminology. The word “Extreme” is what representing for this period or specifically, period 6’s trend. The trend here as historians had argued in periodization (a segment of time that marks the major changes in the lives of individuals, local communities, social groups, nations, and civilizations and also in the larger story of humankind as a whole) is greatly distinct compared to another previous period: period 6 has the most major events in such a short time. It happens so quickly that historians have to reconsider and question their time division or “periodization system” based on human history. Yet, nowadays, this is also one of our problems because we cannot decide whether a new period has already started or not. The whole completely “stand-out” concept, although it’s considered very controversial, is the main reason why I’m very interested in period 6. Even if you look at graphs represent a particular field comparing to the timeline of human history, you mostly will find that it always has a character of exponential growth at the end which is right at the start of this “Contemporary period”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Exponential graphs
Sharing with the same interesting “Extreme” trend, the high level of globalization representing the characteristic of international trades, instant communication, and the mass epidemic is also one of the main reasons for my interest in period 6. For other people, globalization is basically the same as trades and thus, they conclude that globalization is definitely nothing new since the earlier period, people already established their connections around the globe. However, for me, globalization, especially in period 6, is a greater establishment than just direct trading which it supports a saying about the world getting smaller than it may seem. Modern globalization that we witness today is clearer to be seen than some vague connections back then. It highlights the connections between all five continents – Europe, Asia, Africa, America, Oceania - rather than concentrating on one particular area like Europe according to previous periods. This globalization also tolerates in free-trades which led to international connections throughout the globe which the development of transnational company played a major role. In addition, modern globalization also represents instant communication between people and people with the rapid development of science and technology. This communication is a distinct and a tremendous feature of period 6 allowing people to connect each other instantly that one email, nowadays, just only takes like seconds to be sent. In contrast, globalization also has disadvantages, particularly epidemics like influenza starting in 1918 after the WW1.
Tumblr media
With the overall establishment of globalization, the S.P.I.C.E or the 5 aspects of the world – Social, Politics, Interaction with environment, culture, and economics – also becomes immediately revolutionized. These features linking with globalization which also combining each other have made period 6 much more interesting and amazing. More specifically, for the social aspect, period 6 depicts both equality and inequality. Moreover, it had witnessed the rises of both gender equality representing a successful uprising of female over male’s domination with the help of birth control and civil rights tolerating the individual rights in each society with the supports of globalization. This civil rights movement grew even more powerful sharing the same individual rights with the antiwar movements when the world witnessed two bloodiest World War (1914-1945) and the fearful proxy war of the Cold War (1947-1991) between the capitalist US and the communist USSR. The antiwar movement during the Cold War also criticized the dreadful interaction of human activity on the environment especially the use of nuclear bombs which later formed into another movement with the name of environmentalism. This movement inspired science to develop new kinds of natural energy replacing both fossil fuel and nuclear power such as solar energy, wind energy, and hydroelectric energy indicating the power of men manipulating the environment. Besides the environment, the Cold War also sparked a new hope of discovery or the first biggest journey in human exploration history which is not occurred in Europe, nor in Earth, but it’s in space. This huge exploration or simplified into the glory era of science had influenced deeply to the economics with more inventions supporting the rise of Green Revolution, increasing the lifespan and population of the human through the development of medicines.
Tumblr media
Sputnik and the race to space 1957
In conclusion, period 6 or so-called the “Age of Extreme”, in my opinion, is the most interesting era of human since it is, currently, the only period that can make the world near to the definition of uniting as one through globalization led to the extreme level in S.P.I.C.E around the world. It totally confuses historians about their own periodization system due to too many major events happening in such a short time (around a decade) that most statistic data of most aspect showing an exponential curve rather than the normal linear curve representing period 1 to 5. That’s the reason why I’m most interested in period 6 rather than another period.

My favorite period is...6
Right off the bat you must be thinking; WHY. Well I’ll tell you why, it all started when...Nah I won’t give you that sort of bullshit, I really think that period 6 is my favorite because it’s relatively new. Period 6 was/is amazing because technically there is no period 7 yet so it’s kind of like being apart of it in a way. The fact that this period started from 1900 up until now, just over a hundred years is astonishing and pretty cool to me. This time period was the beginning of the first world war, the second world war, the cold war, the Vietnam war and so much more. I understand that war comes with history, it is a thing that any period cannot escape (yet), and to me I really dig the idea that out of all these wars I can say that I knew at least one person who was in each one of them (except WWI). My grandfather on my Serbian side lived through his childhood during WWII, my father served in the army and witnessed the fall of Yugoslavia, my grandfather on my mother’s side fought in the Vietnam war and even met Ho Chi Minh himself (I’m sure many people did but still cool). This really just goes to show how a couple of people in my life and their past experience can really tie much of history together; life is really cool that way.
Tumblr media
Aside from the war and stuff I love this period because it really also brought up the problems occurring with racism in America, and how many groups rose up to show black power. Now I know, the first slave revolt was around sometime in the 1800s however This time period really goes to show much significance that blossomed from that very first uprising. You have groups such as the black panthers, voices from men like the King himself and Malcolm X, hell even one of the greatest rappers of all time Tupac made the world understand that hate given towards black people was a big issue. I get that this is still a huge problem today and that basically all of the people that stood up for their fellow black lives are either forgotten or dead, but it all starts somewhere and if it weren’t for them sacrificing their lives there might not even be a voice of reason to even show the people that black lives do indeed matter.
Tumblr media
Finally, to top it all off this period was amazing because it gave us something that no human would ever think were possible; putting a man on the moon. Yes, this was a race between the U.S and the Soviet Union at the time, and sure there was the cold war where everyone was basically on the edge of their seats waiting to see if either side were going to pull the trigger or not. Yes, putting the first man on the moon was a competition but nonetheless was an amazing accomplishment at that. We are still yet to discover most of our universe, in fact going to the moon is just a very very small step taken for the human race, it’s like leaving your house for the first time as a kid and maybe going to check the mailbox or something. There’s a whole lot we haven’t see yet but thanks to that step we took, we’ve been able to realize that nothing is impossible, that the sky isn’t the limit and we as a race have not stopped in further improving our technology and will only keep moving forward. Plus, thanks to that revelation Sci-fi was born, a genre that boomed and still thrives to this day, popping up everywhere on TV to the big screen as well as mass producing merchandise.
Tumblr media
At the end of the day I know I forgot a few very significant things like the health issues that started popping up everywhere in this period, more political issues and even just fun stuff like new music and culture. I appreciate those historical events too, they’re all interesting to me and I loved finding out about their occurrences, I just didn’t go into too much detail because I figured it wasn’t too necessary. I appreciate the historical events in period 6, the latest of much more historical events to come, and sure it might not be a certain good old gem like period 5′s industrial revolution or something like period 1′s caveman age, but it’s what I found most interesting and the one I liked most. Honestly, it mostly has to deal with the fact that I kind of knew everything all ready that had happened since I’ve taken so many history classes in the past, however with this one I got to find out much more than what I did way back then; about the more recent stuff and since it was new it was a little more eye-opening.

History is a Weapon - Historical Materialism - Suzy
“History is a weapon” is a history series in which its first episode focuses on explaining historical materialism, a term that is used frequently but is never understood well. Historical materialism, a term developed by Marx and Engels, is the idea that events in history are results surrounding material goods and production, rather than human ideas. In the podcast, while explaining the idea of historical materialism, KB also talked about how Capitalism isn’t the highest form of society.
Tumblr media
KB’s presentation of information from 2 sides definitely shows some bias toward Marxism and his idea of historical materialism. He first mentions Hegel’s ideas of ghosts and mystical forces that resolves problems in society. Then he talks about how historical materialism is, unlike mystical forces, a circle of rise and fall in human history to drive the human social progression. In this case, KB has definitely underestimated the power of mystical forces. Human progression is a result of not just merely materialism but also religions and spiritual ideas. For the earliest hunter-gatherer societies, religion was a way for humans to reconcile through ritual their relationships with the animals they killed. For many civilizations and cultures that followed, these spiritual ideas provided a way to integrate values with civic life, including providing underlying morality for laws, social mores, and warfare.
Tumblr media
Next, KB shows more bias when talking about Fukuyama’s “The End of History and the Last Man” in oppose to capitalism. In the book, Fukuyama explicitly says that “The end point of mankind's ideological evolution and the universalization of Western liberal democracy as the final form of human government,” which triggers KB. KB believes that capitalism is not a perfect, final state of society, and therefore it should be overthrown. However, KB should still appreciate its effect and admit its success in the current world. Capitalism is successful because it combines the economic method with the economic goal. All in all, I still somewhat understand KB’s frustration toward Fukuyama’s ideas. It is human instinct to prevent anything from overpowering what they believe in. KB’s reaction is like a human instinct to defend his opinion and go against everyone that has the opposite opinion.
