She was worried that some of the other Asgardians would tease her about trying to become a Midgardian, but she was happy to know Sigyn was behind her. “I want to experience as much as I can while I’m on Midgard before it is time to go back home. Not everyone has the chance to travel between the nine realms, so I feel I should take advantage of it.”

“Purple?” Tal’s eyes widened and her brows raised, a small grin coming to her face. “I think that wouldn’t be too bad. Why purple?” Tal didn’t think she had seen someone with purple hair yet. She wondered what shade of purple she was thinking. “Oh, I’m Tal, by the way. You’re not from Earth, right?” She never heard someone from Earth refer to it as ‘midgard’.

“I originally wanted to do a rainbow. But I was told it was better to start with one color. And purple is my favorite color of the rainbow.” She widened her eyes. “Oh, I can’t believe I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Tatiana. From Asgard. Nice to meet you, Tal.” She held out her hand.

She couldn’t help the mile that tugged at her lips at her daughter’s obvious enthusiasm. It wasn’t easy being apart from her children, even if she wholeheartedly believed being on Midgard would be a good experience for them, and so it was nice to see that the prospect of her staying a little longer was appealing, and that she was missed just as much. “I know. And I would have come sooner, but it’s not easy finding someone to take over for me. And I wanted to give you time to find your feet without feeling like I was watching your every move.”

“In a way, I suppose it was probably good for me that you weren’t here” said the student with some hesitation. “I’m getting the idea that college is supposed to be a time to find yourself without your parents.” Then, realizing how what she said might have sounded, she quickly added “Not that I’m not happy you’re here. I’m thrilled!” She hoped her mother knew how happy she was and didn’t think she didn’t want her around.

“I’m still discovering Midgardian music. But I do like Beyonce. When I first got here, someone told me she was your realm’s queen. I’m embarrassed to admit that I believed them.”

If there was one thing Vex seemed to be pretty consistent with as of late, it was leaving deadlines until the last minute. It wasn’t too much of a problem really, but it meant she was suck at her desk on a Saturday night rather than out with the rest of them. Tal reached for the ends of hair at the compliment, an easy smile coming to her face. “Thanks,” was all she could manage for a moment. She must have had something nice said to her before, but at that moment it feels like not only the nicest thing anyone has said, but the only nice thing. “I saw someone with blue hair the other day. I have had white hair my whole life so it is just normal to me.”

Tatiana smiled back. “Oh, you’ll see some interesting hair colors here on Midgard” she said with a laugh. “I’m actually planning to dye mine purple.” Then she nodded her head. “I guess that makes sense. Around here, everyone’s normal is different. I mean, we have people who can read minds and other people who can change the weather.”

“Well, so far I only have your word to go on for that,” she sighed. Then paused. “And… Thor’s word, I guess.” She couldn’t deny that she’d loved hearing his stories about his friends on Midgard when she’d been growing up. 

“Oh? Impressive!” she grinned, teasing. “But have you had anyone to practice against?” There were plenty of Asgardians living around Paragon, but she didn’t know how much time they had to practice such things.

“His stories always were great. And although they should have prepared me for what Midgard was like, they didn’t. I was so lost when I got here.” She laughed, remembering how clueless she was back then.”

“Well, there have been a few people. I mean, they aren’t really good with swords the way we are on Asgard. But they can fight. Which is useful for keeping me on my toes.” Now that there were more Asgardians here, she was looking forward to having people to practice against.

She was silent for a moment, contemplating the question. “I’m not sure,” she answered honestly. “It’s wonderful to be here with the three of you again, and so many of my friends are here.” It had been undeniably good to see everyone again, and she hadn’t realised until then just how much she had truly missed them all. “I’ve been considering asking Odin if we might be able to come to some arrangement regarding my duties on Asgard.”

“That would be great!” said Tatiana, unable to hide how happy she was. Then, calming herself, she said “I mean, I know your work back on Asgard is important. But so many other people have their parents here. And I can’t help but be jealous.”
