FRANCESCA & OCTAVIA.
âTo those who have lower income sure. To those who have no issue with spending, I truly believe they donât give a shit.â deadpanned Frankie. She then sighed as if that was that and shrugged, âAnd thatâs a capitalist society for you.â The Whisper nodded in understanding and agreed with her terms. Itâs the cycle of how the seasons rolled, she doubt that it would ever change. âHm, when you put it that way it does become a nuisance since the festive season is getting smacked in our faces. Or in this case through our hearing. However, I doubt Kingsholm wouldnât be as hectic when it comes to the shopping. Itâs not like in the U.S. where their Black Friday sales become the Hunger Games.âÂ
At the mention of the foreign cultures habits, Octaviaâs eyes widened, and it was like the bitterness within was validated; the poor woman had no idea what Tavi in a ranting mood entailed and she had no idea the kind of fuel she was adding to the fire for the human who could complain about breathing if given the chance in the right mood. âIt seems fucking insane, if you ask me. They did a special on it on the news and the video clips they showed were harrowing. Now, like Iâve said, I enjoy the holidays-- well, I enjoy ours-- but that? That is not in the holiday spirit and there needs to be some sort of control on that. Thankfully weâll never be like that here in Norway, or at least something would be done about it if it seemed dangerously possible.â

NOAH & OCTAVIA.
Anyone who had some fun teasing his older brother and looked good doing it was a good friend for Noah. He enjoyed Taviâs rare company almost as much as he enjoyed a morning out to get ice-cream with his niece or successfully acquiring a one night stand on the weekend. She was an interesting woman with a penchant for academics and a love for music so, though Noah didnât know too much about her yet, he was eager to.
Still, He couldnât help but laugh a bit at Taviâs missed sink and indignant tone. âThatâs because you should have gone for the red one first, Tav. Plus youâre not hitting it straight in the middle, youâre almost grazing it.â
At Noahâs witty retort, the dissatisfied expression remained, if growing in intensity as she looked over at him; mouth was poised to toss something back, but this was the kind of fire she reserved for the taunting of Stefan, and so she felt her energy cool. Hot and cold as ever, a testament to her capricious nature. Reigning in the contours of her face, Tavi leaned into her pool cue, eyes trained to his frame as he swaggered closer. âIf youâre such a genius, then you try now. And if you canât sink it, then you owe me a drink. I think putting your money where your mouth is a fantastic business move.â

VERA & OCTAVIA.
Hearing the two options, Vera thinned her lips into a flat smile and spread her hands out, because she had nothing to add but agree. She liked the festive season, she loved the community tree and the lights and the way snow glittered outside when you were warm on the inside. But the people⌠the crowds and the people she could do without. âHmm, nothing exciting.â Vera looked then at Ida who still was all-consumed by the iPad. âI thought maybe I would pull the decorations out, not that I intend to start putting them up, but with work being so crazy at the moment, I need to plan ahead.â Looking back at Tavi then, she tilted her head with a small smile. She knew Tavi would get it. The festive season, it was a bad time for everyone, and Silver accidents were no exception. âWhat about you?â

Octavia spared a quick look to the child in the trolley before gaze flickered back to Vera, something like exasperation on her expression at the mere idea of the hellish months that were to follow; not only did they have to deal with the general bothersome themes of the holiday season, but on top of it all, emotions tended to run high during this period, which spelled disaster in terms of Silver ability control. Tavi had experienced a many long days at the institution, examining Silvers to see if they were a threat as quickly as she could so they could all go home. âEh, putting up decorations sounds exhausting. Iâm about to head home and crack open this --â She gestured with a lift of her shopping basket that had a bottle of wine in it. And cake, because she was a balanced adult. âAnd probably just try and find something interesting to watch. Why donât you come over instead? Sounds far more cathartic than wrestling tinsel with the little one.â

NOAH & OCTAVIA.
âDammit,â Noah hissed, shaking his head and straightened up after the failed attempt at pocketing the ball. âYou know what I hate about this game?â He asked rhetorically, walking a few steps as he spoke to the person on the other side of the Pool table. âNothing. It requires steady precision, an eye for detail and flawless strategy. Which is why Iâm pissed as hell because Iâm quite obviously off.â He sighed. âSo, then tell me. Do you also like to wallow in your troubles with a loud club and a good drink? Or are you one of the lucky ones just here for fun?â He smiled at them.
Octavia was already strutting around the table and lining up for her next shot as soon as Noah started his ramble; she paid idle interest, leaning over as her cue set down on the carpeted top. But the brunette paused, looking up with an expression that she fought to keep blank. It was hard for her not to instantly tease or find joy in a Kohlerâs displeasure, but that only applied in a lesser extent to Noah. Stefan was the main target of the antagonising. âMy troubles? I wouldnât know what youâre talking about.â She smirked, a subtle arrogance as she refocused on the game ahead; with her shot, her teeth bit into her lower lip as the ball narrowly escaped making the pocket, causing Tavi to straighten in her stature and exclaim, âYou know what? Youâre right. This game fucking sucks.â

FRANCESCA & OCTAVIA.
Placing a divider in front of the items that she was purchasing, Francesca listened to the womanâs response and nodded in understanding. âI see where youâre coming from.â she mused. âBut I think this is the capitalist world providing us with a gentle reminder that itâs time for us to take out wallets and start breaking the bank with the Christmas shopping.â This wasnât an issue for her, but itâs not like she wanted to purchase gifts for her family. Sheâs forced to in order to keep up a face with them. âIâm assuming youâre not in the spirit yet? Is it the shopping? Or the cold that Norway brings?âÂ
âAnd isnât that bullshit to begin with.â Octavia retorted, interjecting the comment about âremindersâ and âbreaking the bank.â Another avenue in the verbal essay of her bitter musings could explore how unethical it is to continually purchase thoughtless gifts in the first place, but she wasnât an Ethics or Psychology type person; biology was more her thing, so she didnât bother digressing. âItâs the shopping, in a way --- the oversaturation. I like the idea of Christmas, I think the way we celebrate it is cute, but I donât need it in my face all day every day. It comes around every year, Iâm not going to forget about it, you know?â

RASMUS & OCTAVIA.
He let out a chuckle, for once agreeing with something. New Yearâs Eve was at least one time a year he felt properly excited, knowing another woeful year was behind him and being left to wonder what was ahead of him. At least the snow would start to melt and he would easily be on his merry way. âWill it, though? I think Santa has a little too much power for his own good, running Coca-Cola and all that. He must have money in plenty. But New Yearâs Eve is far cheaper and wonât leave on the outskirts in case I decide I donât wanna celebrate it. So 1-1?â
Adjusting the shopping cart her arms were looped in, Octavia moved it to a side, allowing her body language to open up to the man as the conversation progressed. She was more angled towards him, eye contact fixed as he spoke --- and without meaning to, a smile quirked up her lips for a moment at his remark. âItâs like Santa was the capitalist king all this time; he fools the masses with his false generosity just so we feel further compelled to fuel his funds. Weâre onto it now,â Tavi tapped the side of her nose as if theyâd just cracked the code to everything, humour flickering her hues and overtaking the dull annoyance that had been there moments prior. âAll I can take from this is that New Years is clearly the superior celebration... itâs been made so clear to me now.â

VERA & OCTAVIA.
Vera paused in her shopping, not normally one to make small-talk by choice, but it seemed that Tavi was in the mood. Anyway, Ida was busy watching something on the iPad in her cart, so for once, Vera had the freedom to almost do what she pleased right now. âThey might not like it but I think itâs proven clearly that the human race is by far the most stupid and impressional of them all.â She responded, leaning against her shopping cart. âI think Iâm very stubborn but even I see the ogpolkagriser on sale and think that I need to buy it. And if you donât, the rest of the community makes you feel guilty for not participating.â

The line for the only open register was ridiculous, in thanks to it being the only one available and the mania that possesses people during the holiday season. Kingsholm seemed like such a lowly populated town and yet it was like the entirety of Norway was always there when all Tavi wanted was a quick trip to get wine and chocolate cake. So, she stood, happy that at least someone familiar was nearby to kill time with. âYouâre right, they donât like it --- I donât like it. In fact, I hate how right you are. Honestly, itâs like you head out in your usual routine, but then you see a ceramic Nisse thatâs so cute and itâs ruined the entire vibe of the outing. Do I buy it because itâs adorable to look at and everyone hates the negative types around Christmas? Or do I not buy it because I like to complain about capitalism?â A wave of her hand punctuated the dramatic tangent, before Tavi looked at the wine in her basket with a wistful sigh before she turned back to Vera, energetic once more as she spoke. âI need to start on that as soon as possible. What are you up to tonight?â

AKSEL & OCTAVIA.
Aksel let out a low, quiet whistle as he eyed the burgeoning Christmas displays around them. He liked the holiday in general, but the reminders that he had a truly insane amount of money he had to spend for it was a little nauseating. âIâve never read The Communist Manifesto, but I think I suddenly get what those guys were talking about,â he said and quirked a brow as he glanced over at her, his gaze catching on the gingerbread she pointed out. âHeeey â not too bad, not too bad. Almost makes up for Hanne Kroghâs premature wailing.â He made a mental note to grab a couple to make amends with his mom in the case that he royally messed up with the shopping list. âAnd what is the point of an act of charity if you canât get a cookie out of it, huh?â
At his remark, Tavi pointed her index finger, in an errant gesture speaking a kind of agreement. That, and she had a habit of over-using her hands when speaking a lot of the time; some kind of habit she must have surely picked up from watching other European media outside of Norwegian. âExactly,â The brunette echoed rather quietly, lips pursing after her one-word retort and the duo stepped further up in the line. What was the hold up? Christ. This cranky bitch had places to be. âDonât even get me started on her --- that Eurovision sell out... itâs like my bad mood canât get any worse and then it does. Iâm going to stop myself before your ears bleed or something from the negativity, and I think I should jump on that stress eating train rather early,â At that, she reached across to pick up one of the gingerbread men and shamelessly tear it open, speaking with almost sarcastic satisfaction as she did so. âInstant gratification for giving to charity. Itâs like you said. Huh, thatâd be an interesting Psychology thesis, dissecting our tiny monkey brains about the ethics of it all... but anyway--- you want one?â

RASMUS & OCTAVIA.
There was a burning sensation of guilt flowing through his left pocket, his hands clutching the one object he had chosen to get in line for in an attempt to lower suspicion from his shoplifting. He had a job, for once, but the money had yet to land in his hands and he was barely scraping by this month as it was. Rasmus hadnât expected the person behind him to speak up, snapping him back to reality and the low tunes of a promised magical winter wonderland snuck into his ears â his worst enemy. âThereâs nothing quite like burning yourself out on everything Christmas before December even starts, huh.â Not that heâd be any wiser for it, as his main plan for winter was to keep his head below a roof and had never truly connected with the holiday on its own. But he had to try and sound convincing.Â
Gaze slowly dropped from staring somewhat upwards at the guilty speakers in question down to the shopping basket clutched in her arms, Octavia shaking her head in minor judgement. The response that came beside her prompted part of a look, a sigh airing after he spoke and Tavi glanced back to see the progress of the line. âAt this point, I donât even feel like buying anything related to Christmas out of pure stubbornness. Iâll dream of New Years Eve and glittery headbands instead --- thatâll show them, right?â

GRETA & OCTAVIA.
âGreat, thank you.â With a bright smile, the redhead seated herself and turned her attention to the movie on the screen. Sheâd just taken a sip from her pumpkin spice latte when the other asked her a question. âAh. Well, itâs supposed to be Halloween themed. So I think theyâve added some unusual spices? To remind us of Halloween? Or possibly fall?â Taking another sip from her cup, she tried to identify what exactly was making it taste differently. âIt tastes likeâŚgingerbread? Something like that? It certainly tastes like it. Quite odd. Donât think Iâve ever had this combination before. Itâs certainly unusual.â  Â
Whilst the redhead responded, Octaviaâs brows knitted into something akin to confusion as the information filtered through her brain. Lips pursed in discontent, she rolled the cup in her hands, fixing her attention on it before letting a hum of thought vibrate in her throat. Then, her frame moved with the usual energy of conversation, flippant and judgemental in her statements. âAmerica does seem to set the gold standard for the rest of the world, and I know theyâre trying to get behind Halloween here, so this must be another American thing. Iâm not quite sure I like it --- although I say this now, and you can bet Iâll be a big fan by by next Halloween. My words and opinions tend to bite me in the ass like that.â
