Okay, some thoughts on Oscar after the British gp since I've seen some people annoyed with him a lot recently.

I definitely wouldn't go as far to say that he was in the right here, so I'm not defending him, (except i kinda am) but i do wanna share my two cents.

I'll start off by saying that, me personally, I'd say that his penalty was deserved, (sorry Osc) and I don't think there was any British bias. (the situation with George in Canada was completely different. context is the difference maker) Should he have gotten 10 seconds instead of 5? That's not for me to decide, but I do believe getting a penalty was deserved.

While it is deserved though, I can fully understand why Oscar would be upset by this. I know some people are saying "Oh, but why is he even upset?? He still got P2," but if you're Oscar, being disappointed by a P2 is only right. When you're as good of a driver as Oscar, when you're very much in a position where you're aiming for the top step in every single race, yes, a P2 is a "failure." Oscar knows that in finishing second, he wasn't able to perform to the best of his abilities. He knows that in finishing P2, he didn't get the result he's very much capable of getting. When you're as good of a driver as Oscar, you never aim for a P2, because why aim for that when you know you can get P1? It's like selling something precious for a dollar when you know it's worth millions.

And going back to P2 being a "failure," I just want to specify: It's only a "failure" for him as a driver. For McLaren as a team, that's a win. 1-2 is as good as they can get. If it had been the other way around with Lando at P2 and Oscar at P1, again, it's a win for McLaren, but yes, a failure for Lando for all the same reasons that its be a "failure" for Oscar.

for any driver really, if you're in the race for a P1, anything lower than that is a "failure." So the way i'm using the word here is simply "failure" = "not the outcome he was trying to get." it doesn't mean that he did terribly, it just means it wasn't what outcome he tried to get. It doesn't mean he's a bad driver-- it means quite the opposite, really.

So i think being upset with a P2 is completely fine. (complaining about it is another story, which I'll get to)

now about Oscar asking on the radio if he and Lando could swap places.

I know a lot of people were upset with Oscar for this, and I do fully get why people would be. That would not at all have been fair, especially since the penalty was deserved. If you know me at all, you know that I cheer for Lando more than anyone else, but even so, I'm not upset with Oscar for the request, cause even he knows that if they had approved his request, that would've been the wrong choice. He said it himself, he wasn't expecting them to grant him the swap, and he acknowledged that McLaren made the right decision despite it not being in his favor. "Why did he even ask then?" people might argue, but I do believe that it wasn't really because he thought there was a chance it would happen, (since he did say he didn't think it would) but rather, in his own words, he just wanted any glimmer of hope. If there's a chance, it's worth asking. He was just asking. (plus, it's for the team to decide, not him. so whatever happened would've been on McLaren)

And lastly, my own thoughts: Personally, I do think Oscar complained about penalty "not being fair"... quite a bit. In some ways, yeah, it didn't sit quite well with me, but at the end of the day, I can't hold it against him. when something costs you that much, of course it'll upset you. I think I saw some people saying that he shouldn't be upset with getting the harsher 10 seconds instead of the 5 because it "didn't really change the results," but I disagree. an extra 5 seconds could've been the difference maker--I'm quite sure that at some point, Oscar was within 5 seconds of Lando.

of course, this isn't to say that, had Osc been given the lesser penalty, he would've won the race, cause Lando definitely had a mega race, and he definitely could've won even without his teammate's penalty, but i am saying that with the penalty, we weren't able to see what could have been.

So If Oscar were handed the 5 second penalty instead, (or no penalty) it still could've been anyone's race, and Oscar would've had a better chance of fighting for P1. that in itself is reason enough to be disappointed.

Do I think that he could've dropped it after he was able to express his frustration instead of mentioning it as much as he did? Yes, I do, but you have to understand the guy. sure, I could get annoyed with him, like for when he congratulated Nico after the race but didn't congratulate Lando. while I don't think that was necessary, I do think that Oscar deserves a little grace. it was In the heat of the moment when emotions were highest. The biggest thing is that, in the end, Oscar did congratulate Lando. I'm quite sure he greeted Lando before Lando even got out of his car, and then he congratulated him again afterwards in their post-race summary vid that McLaren does for instagram

So my only hope is that after talking with the team, after reviewing what happened, Oscar is able to see that his penalty was in fact fair. And I hope he comes to see why it was given, and that it wasn't simply his braking under the safety car that resulted in the penalty, but rather the force of his brake, the timing, the weather, etcetc.

and I doubt that that's an improbable thing for me to expect to happen, cause after he had time to cool down, Oscar was able to smile, he was able to acknowledge that Lando deserved the win, so I do truly believe that he can come to understand why he was given the penalty where he was. he's a smart guy after all

TL;dr. Yes, I think Oscar was in the wrong in some areas, but not in everyplace that people are annoyed with him for. It really isn't black and white-- things rarely are. He's human. He does have emotion. You can't expect him to be perfect, cause hey, no one is. He's allowed to make mistakes, and it wouldn't be fair to hate him for them. in the end, it all boils down to how he'll move on from it. simple as that. his mistakes don't make him a bad person so long as he makes sure to do better next time. <3
