Natural fiber blinds are a stylish and eco-friendly window treatment made from a variety of organic materials like bamboo, jute, sisal, grasses, reeds, and other plant fibers. These materials are woven or crafted into blinds, shades, or other types of window coverings that offer both aesthetic appeal and functional benefits. Natural fiber blinds are especially popular for creating a warm, earthy atmosphere in a home while being more sustainable than synthetic alternatives. Types of Natural Fiber Blinds Bamboo Blinds: One of the most popular natural fiber blinds, bamboo is lightweight, durable, and sustainable. Bamboo blinds can be woven in different patterns and can range from a lighter, more translucent finish to a darker, more opaque finish depending on the weave and color treatment. Available as roll-up shades, Roman shades, or vertical blinds. Jute Blinds: Jute is a strong, coarse fiber that’s commonly used in rugs and mats but also works well for window coverings. Jute blinds tend to have a more rustic, natural look and come in various shades of beige, brown, and tan. They are typically used in informal or coastal-themed spaces due to their texture and appearance. Sisal Blinds: Sisal is a sturdy, biodegradable fiber commonly used in rugs and mats. Sisal blinds tend to be more textured and provide a more robust, tactile look. The fiber is often treated to enhance durability and stain resistance. Like jute, sisal blinds are ideal for creating a more relaxed or organic design style. Grass Blinds (e.g., Seagrass or Water Hyacinth): These materials are often used in blinds, shades, and other woven window treatments. Seagrass and water hyacinth, for example, are soft yet durable and have a unique, natural texture that can bring a serene, coastal, or tropical vibe to a room. Grass blinds are generally light-filtering, making them perfect for spaces where a soft, diffused light is desired. Coconut Fiber Blinds: Coconut husks are a sustainable material used for more rustic and tropical-looking blinds. These blinds have a coarse, textured look and can add a unique touch to beachy or island-inspired interiors. Benefits of Natural Fiber Blinds Eco-Friendly: Natural fiber blinds are made from renewable materials like bamboo, grasses, and jute, making them a sustainable choice compared to synthetic window treatments. Aesthetic Appeal: They bring a natural, earthy texture and warmth to a room. They work well with various interior styles, including coastal, rustic, contemporary, and bohemian. Breathability and Light Filtering: Many natural fiber blinds allow for the passage of light in a soft, diffused manner while still providing privacy. The weave patterns can control how much light enters the room, making them ideal for living rooms, bedrooms, and sunrooms. Durability: These materials are often very durable and can stand up to regular wear and tear. Many are resistant to fading and can hold up well over time, especially when properly cared for. Low Maintenance: Natural fiber blinds are relatively easy to clean, often requiring only occasional dusting or light vacuuming. However, they may need extra care in high-humidity environments, as some fibers may absorb moisture. Considerations When Choosing Natural Fiber Blinds Sun Exposure: Like bamboo, certain natural fibers may degrade or fade with prolonged sun exposure. Be mindful of where the blinds are installed—areas with constant direct sunlight may cause them to deteriorate faster. Humidity and Moisture: Some natural fibers, such as jute and sisal, are more susceptible to mold and mildew in high-humidity areas, like bathrooms or kitchens. Be cautious when placing them in damp areas. Maintenance: Natural fiber blinds can attract dust, and depending on the fiber, they may need more delicate care (e.g., spot cleaning or professional cleaning). Strength of the Material: While most natural fiber blinds are durable, some (especially those made of finer materials like seagrass) may not be as strong as synthetic alternatives and can break or fray over time. Installation & Care Tips for Natural Fiber Blinds Installation: Like other window treatments, natural fiber blinds should be installed securely using the appropriate hardware for the material and weight of the blinds. Cleaning: Dusting regularly with a soft cloth or vacuuming using an upholstery attachment is usually sufficient. For deeper cleaning, a gentle wipe with a damp cloth (test first in an inconspicuous area) can help remove stains. Some natural fiber blinds are machine washable, but it's important to check the manufacturer's care instructions. Avoid Excess Moisture: Keep them away from excessive moisture or humidity to prevent damage. For example, avoid placing them directly over a kitchen sink or in a damp bathroom without proper ventilation. Where to Use Natural Fiber Blinds Living Rooms & Bedrooms: Natural fiber blinds provide a calm, inviting atmosphere perfect for living rooms and bedrooms, especially those with neutral or nature-inspired themes. Sunrooms & Patios: For spaces with plenty of natural light, these blinds help filter light while maintaining a relaxed, airy feel. Dining Rooms & Kitchens: If moisture and grease aren’t concerns, these blinds can complement a rustic or organic dining room or kitchen design.

Bamboo blinds are a type of window covering made from natural bamboo, offering both functional and aesthetic benefits. They are known for their durability, sustainability, and ability to bring a warm, earthy feel to any room. Bamboo blinds come in various styles and finishes, and they can be rolled up or pulled down like traditional blinds or operated using a cord system. Here are some key features and considerations when choosing bamboo blinds: Key Features of Bamboo Blinds Natural Look: Bamboo provides a unique, textured appearance, adding a touch of nature and rustic charm to your home. Eco-Friendly: Bamboo is a renewable resource, making bamboo blinds a sustainable choice for environmentally-conscious consumers. Light Filtering: Bamboo blinds can filter light effectively, allowing natural light to gently diffuse into the room while offering privacy. Durability: Bamboo is a strong material, which makes the blinds sturdy and long-lasting. Versatile Design: Bamboo blinds can be found in a variety of colors and weaves, from light to dark bamboo, and in both natural finishes or stained versions. They can match a wide range of interior styles, including tropical, Asian-inspired, modern, or rustic designs. Low Maintenance: Bamboo is relatively easy to clean—typically, a light dusting or vacuuming is sufficient to maintain them. For tougher stains, a damp cloth can be used. Types of Bamboo Blinds Roll-Up Bamboo Blinds: These can be rolled up or down manually, providing easy control over light and privacy. Roman Bamboo Blinds: These are pleated bamboo blinds that stack neatly when raised. They have a more formal, tailored look. Vertical Bamboo Blinds: Often used for larger windows or sliding doors, these blinds consist of vertical bamboo slats that can be adjusted to control the amount of light entering the room. Panel Track Blinds: These are used for wide windows or patio doors and consist of large panels that slide side to side. Considerations When Buying Bamboo Blinds Size and Fit: Ensure you measure your windows correctly before purchasing. Custom-made bamboo blinds are available to fit specific window dimensions. Sunlight Exposure: Bamboo blinds can fade over time if exposed to direct sunlight for long periods, so consider placing them in areas that don't receive constant sun exposure. Cord Safety: Some bamboo blinds come with cords that can pose a safety hazard to young children or pets. There are cord-free options available or ones with safety mechanisms.

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We have just installed our latest folding arm awning, our awnings have a low profile foot print, with fully enclosed hood, protecting your fabric during Hobart and Ballarat winters.  Out awnings come with integrated LED lighting in both the arms and at the rear of the awning enabling the light to operate if the awning is close while still providing lighting to the Deck/entertainment space.   The model shown here allows for a maximum span of 6m with a projection of 3m. A folding arm awning is a type of retractable awning that extends out from a building using articulated arms. These awnings are typically mounted to a wall and can be opened or closed with a manual crank or an electric motor (DC or 240v) Key Features: Space-Saving Design: When retracted, the awning folds up neatly against the wall, saving space and maintaining a clean look.  We prefer fully enclosed awnings. Sun Protection: They provide excellent shade and UV protection, making outdoor spaces more comfortable. Versatility: Suitable for patios, decks, balconies, and windows, they can be customized in size and fabric to match different styles. Weather Resistance: Many folding arm awnings are designed to withstand various weather conditions, though specific durability can vary by model.  They are designed primarily as a SunShade product, so if you do get your awning wet make sure its dry when its returned to the cassette. Ease of Use: The retractable mechanism allows for easy operation, enabling you to adjust the awning as needed. [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text] BAL40-Roller Shutters These shutters are typically used for fire protection in commercial and residential settings, constructed to meet specific safety standards of BAL40. They provide a barrier against fire, and flying embers/debris and smoke, helping to contain it and protect the building and its occupants.  The BAL 40 standard, or Bushfire Attack Level 40, is a rating that indicates a building is at high risk of ember attack and exposure to high levels of radiant heat. It's the second-highest level of bushfire attack before direct exposure to flames. We have shown here some extremely larger BAL-40 Roller shutters with Manual override motors.  The manual override motor allows the roller shutter to be lowered or raised in the event of a power failure.  You can also install your own UPS - uninterruptable power supply. A UPS is a device that provides backup power to enable the roller shutter to lower and or raise in the event of main power supply fail. [vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Honeycomb blinds, also known as cellular shades, are great for keeping the summer heat out as we head into the spring weather. They work by trapping air within their honeycomb-shaped cells, creating an insulating layer between your windows and your room. This insulation helps to reduce heat transfer, keeping your space cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.  We have the largest range of honeycomb fabrics in the Tasmania. With over 600+ individual colour and fabric combinations. Here are a few tips for maximizing their effectiveness: Choose the Right Cellular Shade: Honeycomb blinds come in a variety of cell sizes and fabric types, a shade with a higher R-value (a measure of thermal resistance) for better insulation. Some models also have reflective or UV-blocking coatings for added protection against heat.  The smaller the cell size and the translucently of fabric will have a lower R-value while the larger or double/cell in cell will have a higher R-value. Cell Sizes:  Cell sizes and fabric options are as follows; 16mm, translucent & blockout 20mm, translucent & blockout 25mm/26mm, sun mesh, translucent, woven  & blockout 38mm Single and 38mm Cell in Cell or Double, sun mesh, translucent, woven & blockout. 45mm, translucent, woven & blockout 62mm , translucent & blockout Install Properly: Make sure the blinds are installed snugly and cover the entire window. Gaps around the edges can let in heat.  You can also frame honeycomb blinds so a total blockout honeycomb blinds. Close Them During Peak Heat: Keep the blinds closed during the hottest part of the day to block out the sun’s rays and reduce heat gain. Combine with Other Window Treatments: Layering with curtains or drapes can provide additional insulation and block out more light.  With our new woven fabrics which have a sheer linen look, match some of sheer linen curtain fabrics. Consider Top-Down/Bottom-Up Options: These styles allow you to control light and heat more flexibly, as you can open the top portion while keeping the bottom covered. Control Types: Motorised honeycombs are are great option available in both a DC and 240v solution, we also offer cordless, topdown/bottom up, chain or continuous loop, and final tension honeycomb blind Sizes of Honeycomb Blinds: The minimum width is 250mm wide, however we have the ability with most fabrics to go to 3000mm wide our largest width honeycomb can be 5000m wide. By using honeycomb blinds effectively, you can enjoy a cooler indoor environment and reduce the load on your air conditioning system. Both our Ballarat and Hobart Store are now certified to install Somfy Zigbee 3.0 Motors. Somfy and Zigbee 3.0 are both important components in the smart home ecosystem, though they serve different purposes. Somfy is a company that specializes in home automation, particularly for window coverings (like blinds, curtains and shades), awnings, and other types of shading solutions. They offer a range of products that can be controlled remotely, often integrating with various smart home systems. Zigbee 3.0 is a wireless communication protocol designed for low-power, low-data-rate applications. It's commonly used in smart home devices for things like lighting, security, and climate control. Zigbee 3.0 is known for its reliability, interoperability, and efficient power usage, making it suitable for battery-operated devices. Here's how they interact: Integration: Some of Somfy’s products can integrate with Zigbee 3.0 networks. This means you can control Somfy devices via Zigbee hubs or controllers that support this protocol. For example, you might be able to use a Zigbee-compatible smart home hub to control Somfy motorized blinds. Interoperability: Zigbee 3.0 is designed to ensure that devices from different manufacturers can work together. If you have a Zigbee-based smart home system, adding Somfy devices that support Zigbee can expand your home automation options and improve convenience. Home Automation: With both Somfy and Zigbee 3.0, you can create more complex automation scenarios. For example, you might set up a routine where your blinds automatically adjust based on the time of day or in response to a security alert, using Zigbee sensors and controllers. If you’re considering adding Somfy products to a Zigbee 3.0 network, make sure to check out the motor compatibility and whether you need additional hubs or bridges to make everything work seamlessly.  We can help out with your design at www.taylorandstirling.com.au

Blinds for triangular windows can be a bit trickier to find and install compared to standard rectangular windows, but there are several options available: 1. Custom Cellular (Honeycomb) Shades Cellular shades can be custom-made to fit triangular windows. These shades provide good insulation and come in various configurations. 2. Roller Blinds  For triangular windows, we can only offer bottom up configuration for equilateral triangles. 3. Vertical Blinds Although vertical blinds are traditionally used for wide windows, they can be adapted for triangular shapes. The slats can be custom cut to fit the window, though this is less common and might not be ideal for every type of triangle. 4. Plantation Shutters for triangle windows Custom Shutters: Plantation or custom shutters can be made to fit triangular windows. These offer a classic look and good light control. They are usually custom-built to the exact shape and dimensions of your window. 5. Window Film If you’re not looking for traditional blinds, frosted or tinted window films can be applied to triangular windows. These can provide privacy and reduce glare without the need for physical blinds, these can be controlled electronically to go from opaque to clear. https://youtube.com/shorts/2figPrrPydg?si=2vRJ_iMettBUkKsE

Honeycomb blinds, also known as cellular shades, come in various cell sizes, and cell configurations, the choice you make can affect both the appearance and performance of the blinds. The most common cell sizes are: 16mm Cells: This is smallest cell size available and primary used for tight fitting spaces or minimalist look. 20mm Cells: Similar to 16mm cell but slightly larger with better insulation 25mmh Cells: This is a standard size that balances insulation, light control, and a sleek appearance. It’s often chosen for its versatility and efficiency 38mm Cells: These are a bit larger and can offer slightly better insulation than the 25mm cells. They’re also popular for their modern look and effective light filtration. 45mm Cells: These larger cells can provide enhanced insulation, making them ideal for energy efficiency. They also offer a fuller appearance and can be a good choice for larger windows. 62mm Cells: This size provides the most insulation and is often used in situations where maximum energy efficiency is a priority. They also give a more substantial, textured look to the blinds. The choice of cell size can impact not just energy efficiency but also the overall aesthetic of the blinds. Larger cells tend to look more substantial and provide more insulation, while smaller cells can give a more refined, sleek appearance. Honeycomb blinds come in a range of widths to accommodate various window sizes. The available widths can vary by manufacturer and product line, but typical options include: Standard Widths: Many honeycomb blinds come in standard widths ranging from 600mm to 1800mm. These sizes are designed to fit most common window dimensions. Custom Honeycomb Widths: For windows that fall outside standard sizes, we offer custom sizings. You can order honeycomb blinds to fit specific measurements, including widths as narrow as 280mm  or as wide as 3000mm. Wide Honeycomb Blinds: We offer extra-wide honeycomb blinds that can cover very large windows or sliding doors. These can be upto 5000mm wide, at these widths motorisation is a sensible option. When measuring for honeycomb blinds, it’s important to get accurate measurements of both the width and height of your window to ensure a proper fit. Additionally, consider whether you want the blinds to mount inside or outside the window frame, as this can affect the final dimensions and fit. Honeycomb blinds come with various control options to suit different preferences and needs. Here are some common types: 1. Corded Controls Standard Cord Lift: A traditional method where a cord is pulled to raise or lower the blinds. These are straightforward but can sometimes pose a safety risk for children and pets. Cord Tilt: Used for adjusting the angle of the blinds or the amount of light entering the room. It’s often paired with the cord lift system. 2. Cordless Controls Push-Pull (Spring-Loaded): These blinds are operated by pushing or pulling the bottom rail. This system is often considered safer for households with children and pets. Top-Down/Bottom-Up: Allows for the blinds to be adjusted from the top or bottom, giving more flexibility in light control and privacy. Cordless versions use a spring mechanism or a similar system to adjust the height. 3. Motorized Controls Remote Control: These blinds can be raised or lowered using a remote control. This option is convenient for hard-to-reach windows and offers a modern touch. Smart Home Integration: Motorized blinds can be integrated with smart home systems and controlled via smartphone apps or voice commands (e.g., through platforms like Google Home or Amazon Alexa). Automated Timers: Some motorized blinds can be programmed to open or close at specific times of day, providing added convenience and energy efficiency. 4. Top-Down/Bottom-Up Corded or Cordless: This option allows you to adjust the blinds from both the top and the bottom. It provides excellent flexibility for light control and privacy. Top-down/bottom-up systems can be either corded or cordless. 5. Continuous Loop Cord Chain-Controlled: This system uses a continuous loop chain or cord to operate the blinds. The chain moves smoothly, allowing for precise adjustments of the blinds’ height.  They can also be offered with Smart Drop function. 6. Tension Cord Tension-Controlled: This system uses a tension system with a top and bottom mount, the blind moves up and down between the mounting points . When selecting a control type, consider the ease of use, safety features, and how it fits with your lifestyle and home automation preferences. Each type has its own advantages and can be chosen based on specific needs and convenience. For more information visit us at www.taylorandstirling.com.au
