Hey everyone!!

I know my blog is mostly just updates promising to keep working on fics, but life this year(s) have been a struggle. Currently on my fourth move in the past two years, getting a new job, and managing intensive master-level courses at my college.

I’m hoping the new job will change some things and give me an opportunity to write more. In the past, I’ve been in a writing-intensive program as well as a writing tutor for the college. Thus, burnout around writing has been rough. I’ve pretty much been going home and hermit-ing each day.

Thank you so much for y’all’s patience. I know I’ve been hella MIA 😅

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to send out an “I’m still alive” message. I know I’ve been active for a a good while. My masters degree is very writing intensive and my work is very reading intensive. Thus, when I get home, I pretty much sit on the couch and binge TikTok or Netflix.

I can’t promise the end of the semester will make things easier to post. Not only am I taking a summer course, but I am also moving and working during that time period.

However, I have seen your messages and I really appreciate them! Hopefully, I will be able to respond to them soon because I hate leaving y’all hanging—the burnout has just been really strong this year.

Rereading past chapters as I work on upcoming ones and I realized I had never made any pictures of Tam and Ilya. So, behold: The Siblings!

Good news: I already have chapters three and four of Glitter and Gold planned out!

Right now, I am a bit bogged down by new apartment and work to gather enough energy to write. I have a week of free time between the end of summer semester and beginning of fall semester coming up, however! Hoping to be able to write more then. In the mean time, will probably be continuing to plan chapters so that it will be easier to update and write when the time comes. Thank you all so much for your patience. This past week has felt like a year between all the moving and responsibilities I have at work.

Hey guys! It’s been a moment since I’ve updated y’all on fic progress. So, long story short, I have been in the process of moving. My move-in date has been postponed however so there may be a few more weeks of silence on my end as I navigate that and work.

POV: you’re Silco at The Mascarade

Something I find neat about Silco and Jinx is how Jinx was made in fire

While Silco was made in water

And this reflects very clearly into their personalities.

Silco's calm, powerful, and adaptable.

On the surface it's calm blue waters but underneath he's the current that guides the ship that is the under city.

And trying to cross him is like going against a hurricane. You can try to fight a force of nature, but really the only result will be drowning.

Meanwhile, Jinx is loud, explosive, and chaotic.

She has a creative spark that she channels through her weapons and art, and all of it is unabashedly bright with explosions and neon colors.

Emotionally she fluctuates and grabs onto any fuel that comes her way. One moment she's a candle and the next she's a wildfire and you can never predict which one you will get.

But then the show runners swap the roles with visual design.

Silco's got a red and gold color motif, a scar that looks like a burn, and an orange eye.

Jinx has long blue hair and tattoos that look almost like waves.

Silco's water, but looks like fire, and Jinx is fire, but looks like water.

Ahhhhh someone actually sent questions 😱 I’m so happy!

1. What inspired you to write the fic this way?

So, originally, the story I had for Ilya and Silco was completely different. Ilya lived in Zaun and ran a shop with her family where she met a younger Silco and Vander during the early days of the Children of Zaun. This was actually the context into where my small fic, [Business], took place as well as the origins of [this] art piece.

I still consider that plot to be Ilya and Silco’s “original” story — Glitter and Good acting as sort of an AU for that. However, I’ve always had a weakness for the arranged marriage trope. Especially for Ilya as a character. She’s stopped believing anyone could truly love her and even that love is real — same with Silco. Having them on opposite sides also gives more tension to their relationship than I had before which makes good storytelling haha.

11. What do you like best about this fic?

Oh no this is a hard one 😅 I am super critical about my work to the point that it takes every bit of self control not to edit the chapter again and again after I’ve posted it.

What I like writing about this piece is the breadcrumbs. I love writing breadcrumbs — those super tiny details that won’t make sense/aren’t obvious until the dramatic reveal.

A lot of what I like about this fic is stuff I have yet to write 😅. There are three or four arcs to this story that I have planned thus far — one that is our current arc, one that encompasses the time around the events of Act 1 of the show, the third that encompasses the time jump, and finally an arc that contains the last few chapters of season 1.

I will say, I like the way Silco and Ilya’s relationship pans out and some dramatic moments I have planned out. Can’t say more than that without spoiling lol

14. Is there anything you wanted readers to learn from reading this fic?

I wouldn’t necessarily say learned. Fanfics for me are just fun and cathartic. I guess if I had to say something, it would be that arranged marriages aren’t great. Story wise? I like it. It gives characters an obstacle and narrative tension from the get-go. Realistically? Not so much (as you can see from Ashanna and Hoskel’s relationship already).

At the end of the day, though, we’re all here to have fun. So have fun! Read what you want to read. Write what you want to write. Don’t worry about other people liking it — just write for yourself and you’ll be happy.
