“With any luck, I’ll never have any reason to go to one again. Unless it’s some social thing you need me there or something.” Spencer would go to anything if Toby asked her to. It didn’t matter what it was, he was the most important thing in the world to her aside from the girls, and she was never going to take that for granted. There had been moments when she had before, without meaning to, and she wasn’t going to look back. “Me, too.” She admitted, the smile on her face bright and genuine. “I really think that I’m going to be happy here. Way happier than I was in a long time in Rosewood.” Spencer spoke, pausing for a second before she spoke again. “So long as you don’t ever resent coming out here with me. That would really, really devastate me.” 

“Resent you for moving to a city that is going to create a better life for us? How could I ever?” He asked her fully pulling back in order to truly look her directly in her face. “Rosewood didn’t have anything left for me, Spence. Here I have you, and a police department I at least have some faith in. I actually see an entire future. Although it helps that I’m close to Caleb though.” Toby knew that the girls made plenty of jokes, but actually having a friend hadn’t been something he was use to having until he came along and knowing he was just a quick train ride away did help. “When are you going to realize I’m in this for the long haul? You’re not getting rid of me anytime.”

“I’m mostly surprised any police force is competent.” Spencer admitted. It was a depressing thought, but Rosewood hadn’t done much to make her think differently. Wilden had been bad and creepy enough, but then it only progressively got worse. That they were living somewhere now that was actually functional was so relieving she almost didn’t believe it. “I love it, too.” She agreed with a small smile. “I love that we’re here and not trapped in some purgatory anymore.”

“I don’t think that anyone would dream of blaming you for not trusting any police force after everything,” Toby pulled her against his side as he leaned in to press a quick kiss to her temple, “but the one thing you never have to worry about is me being like that. I’m sure there is some corruption somewhere in the department. But not like Rosewood.” If he ever saw something like that happen to anyone else there was no doubt that he would step in and do what was right. Besides never being able to hang back because of who he was, he also always wanted to make sure Spencer was proud of him. “I’m just proud of the fact that we can actually create a life together here after everything. And actually be happy. It’s crazy that it’s actually coming together.”

“A competent police force, what’s that like?” Spencer asked, a dry laugh falling out with the words. Her eyes widened as she let out a happy gasp, looking up at her Toby. “Really?” She asked, her smile spreading easily. “You’re the best boyfriend ever.”

“Surprisingly refreshing. I don’t have to worry about who’s working on hurting the people I care about. It’s almost like I can just focus on my job now and help people. Not chase after some psycho.” His grin widened as he took in her excitement. It was one of his favorite things about Spencer. She didn’t care about the material things she could have asked him for. All she asked of him was just to show he cared and he loved finding new ways to make her light up. “I just love seeing you this happy, Spence. And reminding you I love you in the small ways.”

“Well, that I can promise I’m working on. I’m definitely happy-ish. A lot happier being out of Rosewood and with you than I would have been otherwise.” Spencer promised, leaning into him almost without thinking about it. Like it was second nature which honestly, at this point it was. She had needed to get out of their hometown in order to survive and getting away from having to face her father and the ruin that was left of their family was a necessity. “They’re probably competent. That has to be a nice change of pace.” 

“They are surprisingly competent,” Toby teased leaning down in order to place a kiss to her forehead. It was a nice change of pace after everything they had put up with during the years they had to put up with the A drama. Spencer finally had the ability to focus on herself and whatever she felt like chasing with full force, and he could focus on being a police officer while being there for her in a new way. “I could make you even happier and tell you I made you your coffee and a snack while you were busy.”
