A while ago I posted about my frustration with the romance between Jayce and Mel. Someone reblogged it telling me that black women are very often hated on in fandom, and how I'm participating in that, and I reblogged it agreeing, but didn't actually acknowledge how much it applied. Saw this tweet, and the article they linked made me actually understand the problem with my post, complaining about Jaymel. All this to say, read the goddamn article, Mel deserves better

Hello, Arcane friends! We’re considering running a Trans Pride event during June to celebrate & promote trans fanworks, and encourage people to create more trans fanworks featuring diverse characters. While this is also a celebration of trans fans, cis authors & artists are not just welcome but encouraged to join.
(To be absolutely clear: When we say “trans,” that is specifically inclusive of all non-binary trans identities, eg genderfluid, demi genders, agender, etc.)
We’re currently gauging interest to get an idea of how popular this event might be. Please reblog, like, or comment on this post if you’d be interested in such an event!

I see a lot of analysis that’s like “Jayce is what Powder could have been! Smart scientist!” But may I present: Mel is actually what a Powder raised in Piltover could have been. Both artists. Both traumatized by an introduction to violence at an early age. Both with abilities deemed inadequate for a conflict-centered society. But while Mel had the opportunity to find something that allowed her to use her abilities in her own way and break the mold of her upbringing, Powder was forced to adapt her abilities to fit that violent society.
I’m just…. I’m sad.

Dear followers and fellow fans of Arcane, we have a special treat in store for you!
Starting on the 1st of April, we will be celebrating Silco/Vander with a month-long Zaundads Bingo event! During this event, we’ll encourage each other to write fic and create art featuring our favorite Zaunite father figures.
How does this “Bingo” event work?
It’s quite simple! We’ve made three 5x5 bingo boards, each with 25 different prompts. One is a mix of SFW and NSFW prompts, one is more family oriented, and the last is more on the NSFW/kink side. You can find them pinned at the top of our channel. Choose the card you like and try to get a BINGO by writing or drawing 5 prompts in a row/diagonal. If you like a challenge, you can try and achieve a Blackout, by doing all the prompts!
For more detail, see our FAQ.
Members of the Zaundads discord server can go to the #Events channel and request an individual bingo card, generated out of our list of over 70 prompts.
Sounds awesome! How do I participate?
All you have to do is choose a card and start creating content. No sign-ups necessary! Once the event has officially started on April 1st, you can post your Zaundads-centric art or fic on your blog, twitter or AO3.
@ us in the post @arcanefandomweek and use the hashtag #Zaundadsbingo so that we can reblog or retweet it and cherish it forever.
We created an AO3 collection for you to add AO3 works to. It is currently closed and will open on the 1st of April.
If you have more questions, feel free to send us an Ask or message a mod directly.
We can’t wait to play Zaundads Bingo with you all!

Update I now cannot stop playing lol
I'm not very interested in LoL (video games don't mesh well with my attention span and inability to preform concurrent tasks) but I like the animation of all their pretty new champions in promotional material does anyone have like a playlist or tag or keyword I can use to watch them all

[Image description: a meme showing a painting of an old man with a cloak hood on his head, looking at a glowing blue crystal ball on the table in front of him. Behind him in the background there is a young face with short hair peaking from behind a door. The old man is labeled "all of arcane, pondering the orbs". The crystal ball is labeled "hex orb". The young face in the background is labled "Local cuisine, watching the drama unfold." End description]

How Do I Write Good Image Descriptions?
This is probably the question I get asked the most. And I’m glad, because it means people are starting to think critically about how they share content on the internet, and they’re wanting to do better. That’s awesome! I’m super grateful for the opportunity to educate more folks about this.
I have a secret, though: there isn’t a secret to writing good image descriptions.
This is a resource I like to share with image description newbies. And here’s another resource that’s just as good. They take slightly different approaches, which I think can be helpful.
But I wanna stress: you don’t have to write image descriptions just like someone else. There isn’t a secret formula or code. How I write image descriptions isn’t going to be exactly how someone else does it, especially when describing something subjective like art.
And I want to make another point: ANY image description is better than none. Literally. If you share an image and just write “a photo of a family reunion at the park,” that’s providing information that was not there before. You are making that image more accessible!
Here are my tips for describing fan art specifically:
I start with what I typically notice first about the image. That usually means that I write things in about this order: Character ID, hair/skin color, pose, clothing, background. This varies, of course.
Because it’s art, sometimes it’s useful to describe the lighting and mood of the piece. Is it dark? Illuminated by a single light source? What’s the tone of the piece (both the literal color and the feeling)? Is it referencing another visual work, like a scene from a movie or another famous art piece? Is it bright and colorful or dreary and moody? These are all good things to mention, if you feel so inclined.
Some people like to go into extreme detail when writing image descriptions. Some keep them very brief and to the point. I fall somewhere in between, but I do try not to get too bogged down in the details (for my own sake, honestly).
And, Tumblr-specific points:
Add the image description directly beneath the image in the main text portion of the post, before any commentary (if you’re the original artist). Add it in the text portion before your own commentary if you’re reblogging. That way, your commentary will make sense to someone using a screen reader.
Don’t hide the description under a read more link. Simply because…well, imagine if that was how Tumblr worked for sighted people, and you had to click through to people’s individual blogs while scrolling through your dash to see any images. That’d suck, right?
Accessibility should be built into your posts from the start. So don’t post an image, then reblog it from yourself with a description. Put the description in the original post so that there’s just one accessible version of the image floating around.
Let me know if you have any questions that I didn’t cover here! I’m not an expert on image descriptions and I hope I don’t come across as one. I’m just a person trying to do their best in this cold, inaccessible world.
(If you want to support the accessibility work that I do on this blog, you can buy me a coffee!)
