I’m taking a lot of inspiration from Martin Arnold for my piece and it is very similar to these 2 peices by him, however mine is primarily focused on language and how that relates to movement and I will be using my own footage
Another test I did using 2 of myself having a meal.
very sloppily done with the merging of the clips and filming but just gives an idea of what I want to do
I’m thinking of having 2 or maybe 3 of me having a meal like this with each version taking turns to be cut up and trying to complete the tasks of having a meal
I have also been experimenting with this highly cut up sound and video as a way of looking at how words sound when cut up loads to individual sounds, and also how that looks when the same thing is done to the video simultaneosly.
It is kind of like what I was doing before but from a different direction, as opposesd to starting with sounds and making words, I have started with words and have broken them down to their individual sounds.
These Charles Amirkhanian works were also shown to me by my tutor and I think they tie in to my project nicely with what I’ve been looking at earlier in regards to sound poetry and dada poems. I think I want to have an element of this style of turning words and phrases in to a kind of musical percussion, where the words themselves have no meaning but their repition and rythym make something resembling music.
Another Trevor Wishart piece which is vaguely similar, however this is composed of many many different sounds including birds, words, mechanisms, and nature to create a nauseating and challenging but still intruiging and beautiful composition
I was also shown this by my tutor and I think it’s amazing, it is essentially very similar to what I’m doing but much more involved and complex and with a strong focus on a sort of musical composition from the different voices. It uses syllables from 26 different language and cuts them together aswell as manipulating the syllables to create a beatifiul mess of sounds.
This is remarkably similar (and much much better) than what I am planning to do, however I think mine is different enough in that it is focusing on creating words and sentences and how they look layed out on the phomemic chart, as opposed to making something musical out of syllables.
