A fool he may be, but he at least had a talent for recognizing faces.
Throughout his years, it had become habit more than anything. Remember the faces of those who take noticeable strides. The events of the storm king had reached the ears of many, as well as word of the unicorn with a broken horn. So even though he resided in Ponyville during the events of the Friendship Festival, it still was something on his radar.
He’d been in his own cell moments before, and the only reason he didn’t wear a similar shackle to her’s was… Well– because he’d just morphed his hoof out of it moments prior– once he saw the guards patrol slip by. These shackles could tame the magic of unicorns perhaps, but not his. Since, well– he was anything but one– despite what appearances currently portrayed.
“… T-Telling friend from foe is difficult, so I do not blame you for the mistake.” Opening her cell was easy enough, even while lacking a key– although he did make a show of making it look like he was picking the lock before opening it. When in reality, he’d just taken out the inner mechanism entirely. He did not approach past the bars however, afraid that might be interpreted as a threat, and instead floated the pick over to the shackle’s lock at her ankle. Using the same tactic he used on the door in order to undo it. “I-I am uncertain why they are imprisoning unicorns here– but i-it is best we question that later.” His gaze was elsewhere, towards where the patrol had gone. “I-I am not partial to fighting, but l-likely some of that will be needed. T-they won’t be gone for long. O-once we are out, we can send help for the others.”
Tempest was surprised the door to her cage had been opened, as did the lock around her hoof, and she eyed this one so wearily. Just who was he? She had never seen one like him before, but that was well beyond the point. The focus should be on the now, and right now she needed to escape. She held her chin up high as she moved to go past him, calmly, with all the regal flare that she could muster. There was no room for weakness, even now among a stranger. “Then move. We must not linger long.”
The broken-horned mare went trotting ahead of him, and that desire to leave this place was still deep in her heart. She knew that trusting one so quickly was a rash, and unwise move, but it was necessary for her goals. So, she ignored the strangeness of this all, and went with him in her company. There were few guards, but they managed to sneak past unnoticed.
It wasn’t until they were well beyond the place, that she noticed the alarms were just sounded, but at this point they were so far out of reach from their captors. That was when she turned to him, once they were safe. “Alright. Who do you work for? No one would have got me out of there, unless there was pay involved. Tell me now, or I decide you’re not worth the breath I’ve given just to speak to you.” She was almost craving a fight, honestly. Anything to get her muscles moving from being cramped up for so long.

“You are a fool if you think you can tame me.” Tempest’s gaze traveled along the other’s form, dissecting all that she could with a simple look, and there didn’t seem to be much of anything truly interesting to stare upon. Yet, she knew that danger always took itself in many forms, and her defenses would never lower. She needed to be strong, even if the chain on one of her hind ankles rattled, bringing a bitter taste to the tip of her tongue. How violently she wished to lash out, broken horn already sparking with it’s barely containable power, but she remained as calm as she could. “And even more foolish in thinking you can contain me…”

“If there is one thing you must learn, is that you need to be your own self. To linger on the help of others will only get you hurt, or something worse.” Looking down at the one who was only a little younger than she, and yet there were years in her narrowed gaze that went far above her own age. So much had she seen, and Tempest was no fool.

[Continued from HERE]
“Oh, please... Don’t try to pretend, now. You’ve failed to protect your Kingdom. Now, deal with it.” Tempest was surprised at how much pride this one still retained, long after losing the fight. What a fight it had been! The shattered bits of her armor had been repaired, easily, but still... It had been so unwise to challenge a Queen. Little did she know there would be such resistance from one like herself. The temporary cell would hold for now, and they would be moving her to somewhere more accommodating, in some time. Yes, she was their prisoner, but even they were not so barbaric to acknowledge that this one was of royalty. Tempest simply did not care for the formalities. Still... she could respect the courage it took to stand tall, even now facing adversaries.
“Hm... What to do. What to do...”

friendshipbound:
THOSE EYES SEEM to dance in the darkness, flitting across her vision. for a moment, she forgets her misgivings and pushes her back into the opposite end of the cage. they draw closer, until they almost face her directly. the face accompanying the eyes is a beautiful one—perhaps even elegant, if it wasn’t for the scar marring one side of her face. the indigo unicorn’s sickly sweet saccharine taunts turn her stomach. she quickly wipes her tears, annoyed at her own vulnerability. tempest’s words chastise her, seeming to echo her own notions about the situation. ears droop, horrified. after what she’s done ? ❛ no… you’re lying. ❜ but she doesn’t sound convinced. perhaps if she had been in their shoes, she would have found her actions difficult to forgive as well. tears threaten to well up again. ❛ they would never let equestria fall to ruin. i… can’t believe this. i won’t. ❜ she chokes back a sob. she’s never felt so small. how she misses them.
the small part which still holds out hope that all of this is a lie is nettled at tempest’s insinuations. ❛ you can mock me all you want, but i won’t let you smear my friends. prove it. ❜
Some part of herself wanted to almost give a sense of comfort to the upset alicorn. Yet, at the same time, the part that had been so cruelly brought up in a world so vastly different repelled the momentary weakness of such a thought. Tempest kept calm, but even those tears she could see prickling at the young one’s eyes made her feel somewhat conflicted. Only somewhat, though, of course.
“...Oh... You want proof? Fine.” Her horn glowed a brilliant pale and violet light, before coming into existence was a shining ball. It floated there in front of her, in between the space where she was and the cage with the trapped little princess. Electrical magic sparked from her horn, lighting along the cold metal of the cage as she edged up closer to it. “Here... Look and see for yourself.” Calmly, she presented the ball to her, and there was a visage of movement, as though it were a live-feed of her so-called ‘friends’, and they were talking among themselves.
Some seemed to show some regret for what was said, but it was PinkyPie that spoke up the loudest. “If she doesn’t want our help. Then we don’t need hers! EVER!” The others looked a little surprised by this, but then slowly all nodded in their agreement. Rainbow Dash quietly huffed, “Yeah... There’s no point in trying to find her. The Princesses... We’ve failed them all.”
It went on a little longer, more negative words being tossed around, and many of them all eventually dispersing on their own separate ways, looking so defeated. Tempest, at the moment of seeing that sort of bond disintegrating before her very eyes, looked away from the orb, and let it disappear after a few more seconds. “Does that answer your doubt? Look at how quickly they leave you in the dust... That’s what all friends do, eventually. One change. One difference... and you’re nothing to them. Fear clouds their minds. Fear of that unknown.”
“It’s disgusting.”

friendshipbound:
♛ — ( @tcmpestshcdow. )
SHE WAKES IN a dark, cold place. immediately, her mind reels back to the events on the beach: the fight with her friends… and each of them going their own way. ❛ oh, no… ❜ a heavy feeling of dread roots in her stomach. she tells herself it was just a nightmare, but the cold that’s prickling her skin feels all too real. iron bars partially block her vision. she was equestria’s last hope, and she blew it. the familiar sting of tears well up behind her eyes; the same way they did when pinkie and the others left her. she remembers an uncharacteristic anger, causing her to say things she never meant.
she drops her head between her front legs and weeps silently, wings drawing over her shoulders in an attempt to stave off the deepening cold. the absence of her friends renders her helpless, lethargic; a barely functional framework of her former self. then, in the darkness, a paroxysm of glowing, penetratingly seagreen eyes, almost cabalistical. she feels the anger return; all of her adversity and misgivings now centering on whoever it is in front of her. ❛ i-i have to see my friends. let me out. now. ❜
“Aww... Aren’t you just the sweetest little thing?” Those emerald eyes locked with those sad violet hues as she approached the cage, at the slowest pace possible; tauntingly, always so tauntingly. This was her prey, and none should interfere while she was having her fun. Those were the orders given to all of the troops that were in her charge, and so it was that she had this place all to herself. “You don’t really believe them to be your friends, do you? Not after what you’ve done...”
Once she was in a better position to peer in between the bars, hooves quietly clacking on the cold metal around where it was, her interest piqued even higher. “Hm... Those tears say it all, Princess. They don’t want anything to do with you, and you’re afraid that it’s permanent. It may as well be true, by this point. No one can find you here, and none have made any attempt to even look for you. Trust me. We have been watching them with a close eye. Your friends have abandoned you... They have abandoned the mission you all sought out to try and achieve...”
“You are alone...”
