      next thing he knew , he was standing in esther’s doorway , her office staring back at him like some looming effect .  leaned against the door frame , dressed in jeans and a tan jacket , ernie looked ... safe to say : out of place .  he pressed his body against the wood , stablizing himself , “ you wanted to see me ? ”  he asked , hoping this would be entirely work related , and not something that had to do with drama --- like he and lydia’s current state of being .  “ is there ... a mission ... ? ”

        lips pursed to the side, cris’ peripherals are put to good use as she maneuvers through the doorway with her eyes simultaneously gorilla-glued to her phone screen. though, there’s a moment where his voice and the television pull her attention upward, and she takes note on his ever-so-casual leisure. “huh.” cris breathes a half impressed scoff ; it wouldn’t necessarily be a surprise if this allegation opened the flood gates to other women with children whose fathers have been ‘estranged’ for several years. with the proverbial question mark hanging from her chin, she opts to stay a while and relax into a seat just like ernesto. however, her phone still has most of her attention — tone rather monotonous, but still engaging. “not to say that poppa conrad was a rollin’ stone, but  there are bold enough women out there who are ready and willing and able to try and pull their weight with some bill cosby bullshit.”

      “  you’re kind of an evil mastermind .  anybody ever tell you that ? ” he asked , in reference to her bill cosby name drop .  ernie , however , was nearly at a loss for words over the whole thing .  mostly because he just didn’t seem to give as big of a shit as other people did , but also because it had been a long time since he’d seen anybody get as much as hate as conrad had .  even less hate than that racist kid who made the bullying video on twitter .  “ poppa conrad ... rolling stone ... i’m gonna need you to stop right there . ” a quick shake of his head .

“that pretty much sums up the last few days of my life.” jules said with a sigh, flopping down in a chair next to him. “well, i have been told i’m the unpredictable dair. i suppose that translates into surprising, though i don’t think i can hold that title anymore.” she said, the wry words colored with just the tiniest bit of derision. “no, she’s not paying me in anything but the opportunity to be outside of that mad house for a while.” she was, of course, referring to the white house, where the dairs had fallen into an icy peace, weirdly enough. “no, i don’t want a fucking almond, unless it’s been soaking in vodka or infused with literally any type of drug.” her tone wasn’t mean, it was just matter-of-fact, like they were discussing the weather.

       “  well shit . i can’t blame ya .  your throne’s been snatched by that mother fuc --- that guy . ” a quick motions to the tv screen , her father’s figure running across the screen as cortona tore into the white house and staff .  nothing out of the ordinary .  “ hey , for what it’s worth , i think you’re plenty unpredictable .  for all i know , you’re bout to open up that window over there and flash all of DC  .  more power to you , pal .  i believe in the cause . ”  his eyebrows shot in the air , “ girl , you aggro as hell . it’s an almond . ”  he was only half kidding , half slightly offended she’d dissed his favorite snack .  “ more for me then. maybe you need one --- reduce that blood pressure . ”

ophelia shook her head as the news report droned on- now spilling less truth and much more pure gossip. sometimes it was funny to her how much they thought they knew, “they all think they’re incredible. but, i know, we’re good at our jobs. cortona shouldn’t be our biggest problem.” conrad dair was probably their biggest problem. she shrugged then, eyes going to ernesto instead of the tv, “deplorable, true, but there definitely is entertainment value. if only to see how much sensationalism they rely on instead of fact.” 

        “ entertainment value .. that’s the understatement of the century , by the way . ”  he meant it . the entire dair situation was becoming more reality tv than the things on reality tv were .  at least those situations felt slightly tangible .  the white house’s current state of being ?  straight out of a story book .  “  one of these days ,  someone’s going to hit us with a tell all book , and then we’ll really have a mess on our hands . ” he bit the inside of his cheek ,  eyes searching the tv screen for some semblance of sanity ; but ultimately finding none . “ but hell , he’ll probably deserve  it . ”

      ernie bit his tongue , not wanting to cause a  SCENE  but also not wanting to make it seem as though he thought this was okay ; or like he didn’t care .  all he could do was turn away , not face her with his eyes because if his gaze was hers to grasp , it would be all over .  she’d be    FORGIVEN  , and he would be wrapped around her finger like many times before . “ if only i knew ? ” he scoffed , “ don’t try to make this into some ... some yoda ass ... cryptic conversation . ” he was trying not to raise his voice , knowing all to well that in    kerrington & associates    , someone was always watching .  nes shook his head , “ i can’t talk about this right now . ” he replied coldly , wanting it all to end and just go away , “ for real , this is not the time nor the place , and i don’t --- i don’t want to talk to you right now . i can’t . ”

           the vice president of k&a was rather displeased to see her colleague with his feet on the desk as if he was relaxing watching a soccer game at the weekend. “mr. moreno. what have i TOLD you about keeping your feet off of my furniture.” it wasn’t TECHNICALLY hers but the woman figured that she had proved herself one too many times to NOT try to claim that. “i’m glad that you’re having fun instead of using your time WISELY. yes, it’s useful to read what she puts out to get some ideas for what WE can use but i think your time could be spent elsewhere.” raising her eyebrows, esther gave the other a nod of conviction. “so, do you have any dirt of the mother and daughter? they both can’t be squeaky clean. what we need is a distraction. i’m working on building a rapport with them, alaric is dealing with the dairs. what is it that YOU’RE supposed to be doing?”

        give someone a title , and all of a sudden they’re better than you and can talk shit right to your face .  if esther wasn’t technically ‘  his boss  ’  ernie would’ve had more than a few words for her , but instead , he opted for narrowing his gaze and snidely remarking , “  hey , esther ... you know what it’s not ? --- that serious .  it’s not that serious . ”  he chipped , angrily tossing a folder across the table with the label ‘ DUCHARME : CONFIDENTIAL ’ sprawled across it in red ink .  something about conrad dair put everyone in a piss poor mood , and ernesto ?  was getting really sick and tired of being spoken to like some kind of dog , “  you want dirt ? i’ll get you dirt . but never imply that i’m no good at my job or DON’T DO MY JOB . that’s when you get on my bad side , esther . ” his tone was matter of fact .  why people thought it was a good idea to poke the bear with severe anger issues --- beyond him . he was hired by k&a for his willingness to do whatever it takes ; that same attitude had found its way into every walk of his life .  “ anyway , “ feet dropping , arms folded across his chest , he continued , cold . “ i was waiting on you , lady .  i’m looking , but from what i’ve seen and heard , grace is right .  conrad’s a piece of shit dead beat , but it ain’t all that shocking . ” he shrugged , “ besides a few parking tickets , they’re both good girls .  pay their dues , went to college , honest people .  though i think your in is with the kid .  i’m hearing she never even wanted this to go down .  it was all mom . ”
