I'm trying to fill the void left behind after finishing Dept Q by making my way through Matthew's filmography and the books. So far I've seen The Poison Tree, Silent Night, Pressure, Burning Man (this one completely destroyed me😭), Official Secrets and The Imitation Game. Any recs on what I should watch next?

Well done on still standing after Burning Man coz bloody hell it's so sad.

This is an impossible question to answer coz there is so much to choose from - don't make me decide. 😢

Here's a few not in any particular order:-

The Wine Show - coz Matthew is just being himself - i.e. nerdy/goofball -

The Offer - coz his Bob Evans is a tour de force and completely hilarious, gut wrenching and a total stand out from the show -

I would go for his ep's in 'The Crown' S2 - ep 4, ep 7 and a bit of 10. Coz seeing Matthew in full seduction mode is always a treat.

Stoker (2013) - stunning movie that will have you reassessing your moral compass.

Dancing on the Edge - limited series. Matthew as cheeky journo, Stanley is a gem. + Chiwetel Ejiofor so what's not to like?

A Single Man (movie) - he's in short flashback scenes throughout the movie and his love story with Colin Firth will break your heart -

A Discovery of Witches (TV) - coz ... Matthew Goode as hot vamp professor (and the leather in season 2 👌). Matthew's phenomenal range gets well used in this and there's lots of it to watch.

The Hatton Garden Job - heist movie chosen for completely shallow reasons coz -

His eps on The Good Wife from S5:15 up to the end of S6 (missing for a couple coz he filmed Downton) totally underused but his character Finn is adorable. You feel like he's a real person that you would love to go on a date with (and write 44 questionable fan fics about - I was young - don't judge)

The Lookout - his other Scott Frank project. Interesting plot and so fun to watch Matthew be a bad ass.

Hopefully that's enough to be going on with. Tell us what you think of those.

OH MY GOD - I forgot Leap Year - Goodey doesn't like it and I can spend a full 5 minutes picking out it's failings as well but I LOVE the total cheese fest. One of his most beloved movies in this fandom - despite everything AND it got me hooked on this guy -

oh and Ordeal by Innocence, Imagine Me and You (coz HECK!) - oh jeez there's just so much - I know I've forgotten loads but hopefully something will grab you.

and Freud's Last Session coz that's an acting masterclass that matches him with Anthony Hopkins.

Random thought that came to me in the shower: I adore these characters and their dynamics so much because even though Carl is a high ranking officer (rather a good one, might I add) and the biggest arsehole one can stumble into on a random afternoon, they don't turn into pushovers the minute they are in close proximity of him and his scalding sarcasm accompanied by his anger management issues. Carl barks at them? They barely even flinch. He gives out an order in a borderline violent tone? They comply (except when it's toilet cleaning duty lol), but they also make sure to let their disapproval known. They hang up on him. They tell him to fuck right off. They ridicule him (Akram, my beloved, he isn't even trying, Carl's just unable to keep up haha), they fight back with sarcasm. But they are also obedient. They listen to him, respect him (from afar), they let him know (indirectly) that they are there for him. They respect the man, but they don't fold when subjected to his volatile nature. Carl can be scary and unpredictable, but in the eyes of these people he is also very human.
