graham gripped at the island counter and sighed, “what. milk. kink.” he said through gritted teeth, lifting his gaze to her and raising a brow. he wiped his hands on a towel before taking the drained pasta and throwing into a pain with the cut up meat and waiting for the milk, “where’s my milk why are you kissing me after you insulted me?” he teased back poking out his tongue. he thought back to that memory, it was all too fresh in his mind. his legs pained him in that moment.“i remember, you almost broke my legs.” he turned around to cup her cheeks, “we’ll have tiny sips not enough to get you drunk. if you get drunk off of two sips then.. what are we going to do for our wedding?”

she looked at him as if to say “what are you talking about?” when he questioned his own milk kink. unlike the other kinks floating around the pythons and their individual reputations, graham was the one who created this on his own. or actually vivian was the one who created the  kink for him, but it was his nonetheless. “i told you i dumped all the milk, baby. i wasn’t kidding.” she told him, halting her kisses to look at him. “do you want the kisses to stop? we can wait until after the wedding if you’d like to kiss.” she asked him, raising an eyebrow at him challengingly. she hope’d he’d say no to her offer, the idea of having to wait even a day to kiss him sounding too miserable. “two  sips and i’m drunk? i’m not a lightweight, you know. i drink a lot for a reason, dumbo.” she pushed him off her, taking his ears and stretching them outward so he could resemble the big eared elephant. “you have such big ears when you stretch them out.” she said as she pulled on them more. “why are  your ears so stretchy? are ears supposed to be elastic?”

sitting on the countertop with her legs swinging slowly and her attention trained on her phone until she heard a snap. “hm?” she hummed, looking up at her fiancé as he cooked. the sight infront of her was truly a master piece, her own version of the monet lisa with the love of her life happily cooking her pasta and the villa being her personal louvre with other area holding different pieces of their relationship. she felt like it was 2015 when they had just started dating, she felt like she was in the process of falling in love all over again, but instead it was 3 years later and after many trails and revelations, they were engaged and she was falling faster than she had before. “i threw away the milk after you revealed your cow kink.” teagan said jokingly, smiling at him teasingly. leaning forward to wrap her arms around him and separating her legs to let him stand in between them, she nodded and giggled as he left kisses. “i remember.” she laughed, “i also remember the last time we cooked pasta together and had wine because kaia had offered. the pasta was good, but the wine was off. one moment we were all having a python dinner and the next me, romina, jade, and kaia were terrorizing you and jude with makeup.” she recalled. “maybe we shouldn’t have wine.”

“baby, hey.” he snapped his fingers before her to get her attention, “can you grab me the milk from the fridge?” he drained the water from the pasta before tossing in some herbs and spices for the pasta he was cooking for the two. it was a window into their possible lives in the future, after graduating school and settling down. graham felt comfortable and at peace with the love of his life for the first time in this house. it was a shame, he often thought, that it was happening at the end of everything. “you want wine with dinner?” he leaned against the counter as he stood beside her and leaned down to pepper her cheek with kisses, often breaking to see if any of the other python’s would interrupt. “you know, once upon a time in this kitchen you were complaining about not having any food and then we went out and almost died, do you remember?”

confusion etched across her expression, teagan’s words just made everything even more complicated. “huh ? what does that fucking even mean ? how can you not know someone ? what, do i simply just not exist in your life anymore ? is it like we never met and became friends in the 2nd grade ?” she shook her head, completely dumbfounded. exhaling a deep sigh, she lifted her head. “what do you want me to do then ? do i need to prove something to you ? because if you want to hear how much i need you back in my life, then fine, i need you, teagan. i fucking need you, alright ? if there’s anything this whole silent treatment of yours has proven, it’s that i needed you more than you ever needed me. i miss having someone to go to for all the good things and bad things in my life. i miss being able to pull stupid shit with you and having someone i can just mess around with. i miss our movie nights. maybe i have a habit of acting like i don’t need people, or i try really hard to not get attached to one person and rely on them, but i rely and i depend on you more than you know. when i apologized to you all those months ago, i should’ve fought more. i should’ve told you that i need you in my life, that i want you in it and that i wasn’t gonna go anywhere unless you forgave me and took me back.” maybe she was going overboard this time around, but she was willing to say whatever to get teagan to finally talk to her again. cupping teagan’s face in her hands, trying to put emphasis on every word to show that she meant everything she said. “and for that, i’m so sorry, teagan. if you wanna hear a real apology, this is it. i’m sorry for sleeping with graham even when i knew how much he meant to you, even though i knew that you were still in love with him and that you never stopped. i’m sorry for not telling you about it after it happened, for hiding it from you for weeks on end and pretending like everything was fine and continuing to lie to your face. i fuck up a lot of the good things in my life, but if there’s something i never wanted to screw up, it was our friendship. we only have a couple months left in hawaii, and we’re all gonna have to go back to our own lives and go on our own paths. but i don’t want the trip to end if you’re not gonna be in my life after this. i want my roommate back, the same roommate who i experienced all my firsts’s with. our first kiss, our first boyfriend, our first love — i wanna keep doing that. i want to be there in your life to experience so many more firsts’s with you. i want to be there to see you go off and fulfill all your dreams, to see you become an aerospace engineer for nasa, to see you walk down the aisle with some rich guy that may or not may be graham, to see you buy your first house, and have your first kid. i don’t want to keep pretending like we don’t know each other, i don’t want you to keep acting like you don’t know me. because if there’s anyone that knows me, it’s you, alright ?“ she paused for a few seconds, dropping her hands to tuck a strand of teagan’s hair behind her ear. “so please, can we just start over ? hi, my name is kaia. i’m an aquarius sun. our signs aren’t really compatible but you put up with me and you love me anyways. the stars have been against the two of us from the start, but if you love defying them and proving them wrong, even if there was a set path for the two of us, you don’t want the stars to define our future. you want to write a new path for us, one where we’re best friends and where we’re actually compatible, and where no matter how many times we fight and get mad at each other, we make up anyways. you probably forgot my name at this point, but i’m kaia. nice to meet you.”

“it’s not like we never met, it just means that i don’t know you anymore currently. like, our memories from 2nd grade to graduation still exist in my head, but everything after that is just a blur, you know? out of sight, out of mind type of situation? do you get it or should i explain it to you some more?” she said almost condescendingly. teagan sat there and listened to everything kaia had to say, nodding every now and then to show that she was listening. kaia was saying all the right things, but it was a couple months to late and she was stuck on whether or not she should let her back in or keep her at a distance like she’s doing currently. hearing kaia say “i miss having someone to go to for all the good things and bad things in my life” made her glance down at her engagement ring, she’d been unconsciously playing with it since she came in. maybe it was for comfort since graham wasn’t here to hold her hand while this was happening, maybe it was because she didn’t want kaia seeing the ring on her finger and knowing the engagement happened with her only involvement in it being the ring and not the actual proposal because while teagan loved the unexpected proposal, she always imagined kaia being the one beside her when it happened. the rosales and choi’s were the first ones to hear the news, but teagan always imagined kaia being the first one to hear if she were to ever get engaged. teagan always imagined kaia being there to experience it with her, but instead the proposal was marked the first significant moment in teagan’s life that kaia wasn’t apart of nor present for. the minute her hands cupped her face, teagan felt her heart plunge a little, maybe this would be when she’d crack and let the girl back in. her entire apology hit her like bricks, they did only have a couple months left in hawaii until they’d go their separate ways. they still had their apartment back in pennsylvania, but teagan had yet to tell kaia about having to move to dc for her internship with nasa. she had gotten the news a couple days after dubai, so she never had the chance to kaia and as far as the other girl knew, they’d be living together when they get back from hawaii rather than being miles apart. with kaia’s hand stuck out infront of her for teagan to grab it, teagan looked at the girl while she had an inner debate on what to do. do i let her back in? do i keep her at a distance? she looked down at her fingers and saw the ring again. it glimmered in the sunlight and her heart fluttered as she thought back on the moments after the proposal happened. she thought about the blissful feeling that stayed with her for hours, but then she thought about the small portion of her that felt sad because someone wasn’t there for it. she was happy, teagan was on cloud 9 for the most part, but a part of her knew that there was a missing puzzle piece that was needed to give pure bliss. looking up, teagan smiled at the missing puzzle piece and grabbed her hand with her left. “i’m teagan choi-- almost choi,” she said hesitant “nice to meet you.”

“oh, just drop that bullshit already. you know me, teags. you’ve known me since we were 7. and i know you’re still mad at me but — hold up, are you in a call with someone right now ?” kaia furrowed her brows, hand quickly reaching out to turn teagan’s phone to see who the other person on the line was. at the sight of sam’s face, the grimace on her face became more visible. she let out a deep sigh, scoffing, “so what, is he my new replacement now ?” watching as teagan end the call, she placed the stuff she brought on the floor and crossed her arms. “i want you to drop this whole ‘i don’t know you’ act. i thought it was just some kind of payback or funny little joke at first, but i guess you’re still upset at me — which i don’t blame you for. you have a right to be mad, and i get it, i do. but if you are, then just fucking tell me, teags. i thought we were okay after i apologized for everything ? i thought we were good again ? i don’t get it. i apologized. what else did you want me to do ? was i missing something, is that why you’ve been acting this fucking way since february ?”

“you know me, teags” she mimicked her again under breath, rolling her eyes at the girl. all she wanted to do was gush about the engagement with sam before he had to sleep, but it seemed like kaia had other plans for the girl. she thought she thought she had made it clear that they’re barely even friends, but it looked like the girl never got the message- or knowing kaia, refused to understand the message. “he can’t really be your replacement when we’ve been close with sam since before our falling out, but whatever you want to think, lim.” she waved her off, closing her door before sitting on her bed with one leg dangling on the edge and the other folded. “what ‘i dont know you’ act? kaia, i told you that i didn’t know you anymore. we’re cool and all, but i just don’t know you anymore. it’s as simple as that.” she shrugged, her expression showing how unimpressed and uninterested she was at the current conversation. “you apologized and we are good, but that doesn’t mean we’re friends again? i told you that we were nothing, i don’t get what’s so hard to comprehend?” she questioned. “am i missing something? did you not understand anything i told you that day? i don’t know you, kaia. theres no bad blood and i’m not mad at you, i just don’t know you.”

still high off of the unexpected proposal, teagan was on facetime with sam gushing about everything that happened and jokingly telling him that the chances of head when they meet up next was no longer on the table. “i can’t believe he got diego to say yes. i knew my parents and pres would give their blessings right off the bat, but diego? i thought he would’ve made him wait at least two ye-” she was explaining, but stopped when she heard a familiar voice with some banging. getting up with her phone still in her hand so sam could see, teagan opened the door and raised her eyebrows as she stared kaia. “i’m not avoiding you if i don’t know you, kaia.” she said unamused. “listen, sam, i gotta go. kaia or whatever wants to talk and it looks like she has some junk with her.” teagan said to sam, hanging up after saying bye and that she’d call him again in the morning and then staring back at kaia. “what do you want?”

despite kaia’s attempts at repairing their friendship over the past few months, it seemed like trying to get close to teagan wasn’t enough. after the apology, she thought everything between them had been fixed and that they were back to normal again. but every time she tried to get closer to teagan, teagan would only push her away - as if their years friendship was nonexistent. although kaia was a straightforward person, she avoided a lot when it came to actually talking things out. but after months of putting up with it and failing with her other methods, talking was the only thing she could do now. standing in front of teagan’s door, she held a plethora of miscellaneous items she had scrapped together at the last second in an attempt to bribe her way back into the girl’s heart if all else failed. “teagan, open up ! i know i gave your boobs an 8/10, but you can’t always  avoid me !”

“getting stranded this time with you and finding our way back to the villas like real men and woman..” graham’s shoulder rose and fell, “it’s nothing big. look, gas? full. battery? i don’t know if it’s okay. wheel? fine. breaks, gas pedal, all fine. we’ll be fine. now stop worrying.” he slid the keys in and started the car. “no, we’re not taking an uber. i’m driving. stop being scared.” his eyes were focused on the rear and the side mirrors as one hand slipped behind her seat and the other worked the wheel as he carefully pulled out with ease. “oh, what? you don’t like when i compliment you now?” a smile tugged at his lips as the car pulled out into the street and on way to the restaurant. “you’re going to jump because i called you beautiful? jesus, what do you prefer ms. rosales? you’re ugly?” he looked away from the road for a second to glance at her before looking straight ahead. the smile was still there. “it’s just dinner, we’re going slow remember?” he said, he thought about going further with his plans and doing the most with his ideas but he didn’t want to scare her or put her in a position that makes he want to rethink this entire thing. graham wasn’t for that. the restaurant he picked out was thought of though, he looked for all the best spots in maui and this happened to be the best place. after the careful drive, zooming through lights just so they’d make their reservation. he parked the car at the four seasons where the restaurant was located. “and we’re here.” he called out in a sing song voice as he turned off the car.

she looked at him amused as he listed off the things as a way to reassure her that they wouldn’t end up stranded like their previous car ride. “you’re the worst at reassurance you know that?” she informed him, a questioning look on her face with furrowed brows and a small smile. “shut up, you know i love your compliments, but i’m not trying to show up at the restaurant as red as a tomato. we’re there to eat, remember? not look like a fruit in their kitchen.” teagan removed her hands from her cheeks, opting to look out the window with her hair acting as a barrier between the two of them. “and don’t call me ugly. it’s mean.” she mumbled childishly, the crimson color coming back to fill her cheeks. as teagan looked out the window, she tried to decipher where they were or where they were heading, but she had no clue. their year in maui was almost up, but teagan felt like a newly arrived tourist whenever they drove around. as they got closer to what teagan assumed to be their destination, she was in awe with the view. “i’ll never get tired of ocean views.” she thought to herself, sighing in content before unbuckling her seat belt and exiting the car. “good location, good view, good restaurant. i’m impressed.” teagan nodded approvingly, walking over to him and latching her arm around his. “but a restaurant and a resort?” she said, looking around. “thought this was a first date, but you decided to take me somewhere with rooms available? think you’re gonna get lucky tonight or something? is that your tactic, choi? hmm?” she questioned him teasingly. “it’s our first date and you think i’m easy. i can’t believe this. disgusting.”
