Important information! 🌋 Dear tea friends, we are going to be rebooting and reformatting Tea Joint. Our first practical step in this direction will be to physically clear and clean out our tea(ware)house. This means that we are launching a 🚩big cascade sale. What does that mean exactly? We are starting out the sale with a -20% on everything, the discount will continue to increase 🚩every week. The sale will end at the end of May. 🔸️Use promo code “final” Warning! Once something is out of stock - it’s gone! You can wait for the discount to escalate, but there is a chance that the tea or teaware may be out of stock before the discount increases. We want to thank everyone who shared in the journey and offered so much support, kindness and love! This is not a goodbye, just a great chance to rethink and improve (more on that later). Wishing you good health and happiness, may each day include numerous cups of fantastic tea https://www.instagram.com/p/COLlgEoA-U9/?igshid=cjyr017s0dh0

New arrivals!🌋 They have all been tried and tested and are up on the website, the flavour description for each tea will be added shortly ;) Here is what’s new: 🚩Yellow Tea Meng Ding Huang Ya, harvested 19.02.21. Yellow tea harvested in February is close to legendary. It will definitely make a lasting impression on even the most experienced taste buds. 🐦Green tea Long Jing №43, early spring 2021. Early harvest Long Jing is gentle, sweet with a flowing and ever-changing aftertaste. 💎Phoenix Oolong Wu Dong Dan Cong - a personal Tea Joint favourite. It has a rich, tart and seriously wonderful taste. The tea state is superb. A true Phoenix Oolong from Wu Dong peak. 🙏Guangdong Oolong Ju Duo Zi Dan Cong - a lush, gentle, flavourful Oolong from Wu Dang Shan peak. A great addition to your tea collection, especially if you are a Guangdong Oolong fan. A rather rare tea. 👏Black Tea Shai Hong Bing, 2020, 100g. - an interesting Shai Hong Bing. Rich, fruity and sweet. And here is the interesting part - it is not very demanding in terms of brewing, which is not typical of Shai Hongs. You can brew it in a cup or even a thermos. 🐤Wuyi Oolong Mei Zhan or Plum of Predictions - a nice North Fujian Oolong. It has an abundant aroma with a long lasting tropical fruit aftertaste. https://www.instagram.com/p/CN5Ve_5A21O/?igshid=1dezr0ldbr68s

The Legend of the “Eastern Beauty”, or how to cash in on bad luck. There exists a tale about how Dong Fang Mei Ren was created. This tea is also sometimes called “Pen Fen” which can be translated as “to show off” or “to pull wool over somebody’s eyes”. 📖Once upon a time a farmer had really bad luck: his plantation was infested by green tea leafhopper that damaged all the plants. He knew that nobody in his village would buy the tea made from this harvest because they knew what had happened to his plantation. But he still decided to make tea out of the damaged raw material and sell it somewhere far away from the village where he lived. Not only did he manage to sell the tea, but he sold it at a very high price - everyone who tried the tea fell in love with its flavour and was willing to pay the price. When the farmer returned to his village he told his neighbours what happened, but none of them believed him. They started to call his tea “Pen Fen” because they thought that he wasn’t telling the truth and was trying to show off. We don’t know if this story is true or not. But we do know for a fact that Dong Fang Mei Ren has a flavour that is deserving of high praise: honey, berry and floral notes with a gentle touch of grape and eclair crème brûlée. https://www.instagram.com/p/CNQIGKgAsc3/?igshid=1bwxvo3dtswl1

💯Top 5 Shengs you should definitely try from the Tea Joint collection: ⛰Sheng Puerh Nan Ben Lao Zhai, 2019, 250 g. This Sheng Puerh is from a small village called Nan Ben Laozhai situated near Mang Song and at an altitude of approximately 1900 m. above sea level. Raw material is harvested in the spring time from small trees that are approximately 100-130 years old. 🦃Sheng Puerh Kung Xue Bing Dao, 2019, 357 g. The Peacock from Bing Dao region. A wonderful gentle Sheng with notes of mint, a slight astringency and a long lasting sweet aftertaste. A great option for aging at home. 🌋Sheng Puerh He Kai, 2020, 357g. This top 5 list wouldn’t be the same without Sheng He Kai. We did a post about it not too long ago and here is a bit of info from that post: It’s a Sheng made from raw material collected in wild-growing gardens near mountain He Kai. The raw material for this Sheng was collected from different aged trees in the wild gardens. It has an apple and berry aroma, the taste is well-balanced and rich, no astringency. The aftertaste is pleasantly sweet. Honey, apricots, jasmine and vanilla come together in this Sheng’s flavour profile. Goes down easy, each sip offers an impressing flavour composition. 🌅Sheng Puerh Lao Man E, 2019, 357 g. A young Sheng Puerh harvested near the border of China and Burma, village Lao Man E. It has that typical Lao Man E astringency followed by a fruity sweetness. The leaf aroma includes baked apples and slight chocolate and creamy notes. The flavour profile consists of dried fruit, vegetale, floral and woody notes. Soothing and refreshing. 🏅Sheng Puerh Nan Nuo Shan, 2020 A fresh loose leaf Sheng from Nan Nuo - a small mountain situated between Jing Hong (capital of Xishuangbanna) and Menghai (main tea city of the prefecture). There are trees that are up to 500 years old and grow at altitudes of up to 1900m. It has a fine liquor that’s almost like mango and pear juice. A true Sheng tea gem. https://www.instagram.com/p/CMr78PFhBAl/?igshid=w0wpsp6pea47

🤔Shu vs Hei Cha, what’s the difference? They can be both considered to be dark teas, they are heavily fermented, sometimes they have very similar physical appearances and they are both generally made using the Wo Dui (damp piling) production method. In a way, they are very similar, but what’s the difference between the two? Let’s take a look at a few the points of differentiation: 🔎1. One came from the other. Hei Cha existed long before Shu Puerh. Shu Puerhs were created around the 1970s. The demand for average quality Shengs was on the rise at the time. Traditional Sheng Puerhs were taking too long to age and, additionally, the aging process made the tea more expensive – what could be done to get Shengs to a satisfying state of flavour faster? A group of tea technicians decided to try the Hei Cha Wo Dui method on Sheng material - the tea was ready in a much shorter period of time (a month or a few months vs. a year or a few years) – but the result was a totally different tea - Shu Puerh. This is one of the versions of how Shu Puerhs came into being. 🌍2. Location matters. Where the tea is collected and made can be an important point of difference. Hei Cha can come from a lot of different places: Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, Guangxi, Anhui, Shanxi. But a Shu Puerh, strictly speaking, should come from Yunnan. But do we still call a Shu Puerh from Burma or Thailand a Shu Puerh?  👃3.If the first two points seem dismissible, then this final point is the most indestructible one: the difference in flavour. Though there is a large spectrum of flavours within both the Shu Puerh group and Hei Cha group, if you have enough experience with both it’s very unlikely that you will confuse a Shu and a Hei Cha. 📖The above points are debatable like many things in the world of tea, and much more could be added to the list of differences. It’s hard to say whether it’s possible to filter out completely objective points of difference. In a way, each tea and what it represents is always changing and evolving as time passes by. ❓Do you agree with these differences? What would you note as an important difference between Hei Chas and Shu Puerhs? https://www.instagram.com/p/CMaBCnSA0K6/?igshid=mic39pnwl57o

Black Tea Niu Er Hong Bingdao🌅 🔎A juicy Gong Fu Hong from Yunnan. The dry leaf aroma includes dark chocolate with dried cherries. The heated leaf is complimented by a touch of citrus. The first steep includes herbs and Eastern spices. The second steep is not so much about the spices, notes of plum make their way into the composition. Several steeps into the tea session and the flavour acquires sweetness and dark bread crust notes. 🤔Like many Gong Fu Hongs Niu Er is a demanding tea. The best way to brew it is in a Gaiwan with water that hasn’t reached boiling temperature, the steeps should be short. An interesting tea. Helps to warm up and catch positive vibes. https://www.instagram.com/p/CMFNXzlAczi/?igshid=16qlp3c9c544g

We would like to share with you a Sheng we recently discovered: Sheng Puerh He Kai, 2020 🤔A Sheng made from raw material collected in wild-growing gardens near mountain He Kai. The raw material for this Sheng was collected from different trees in the wild gardens. Most trees are from 400 to 600 years old, but some of the raw material was collected from trees that are almost 1000 years old. 🔬It has an apple and berry aroma, the taste is well-balanced and rich, no astringency. The aftertaste is pleasantly sweet. Honey, apricots, jasmine and vanilla come together in this Sheng’s flavour profile. Goes down easy, each sip offers an impressing flavour composition. 🔴Definitely an extraordinary Sheng, we give it a 10/10. A great tea for a long attentive tea session. https://www.instagram.com/p/CLj3zmuAdEu/?igshid=1wt4jpntx39t2

The Emperor's Beloved WIfe 🙏 🤔 Gui Fei tea appeared recently - at the beginning of the 2000s. It is made in Taiwan using the Dong Fang Mei Ren production technology and then rolled into ball shapes. The tea is named after Yang Gui Fei - one of the Four Ancient Beauties. Yang was the woman’s name and Gui Fei is the title of the first ranking wife, or beloved wife of the Tang emperor Xuanzong. The name of this woman has long become the symbol of female beauty. 👃 The special perfume-like aroma of Gui Fei is quite memorable: raspberries, canned pears and infinite sweetness. Spiciness and milk intertwine with woody and berry notes. The aftertaste is light raspberries with a tartness typical of Gaba Oolongs. Pleasantly refreshing. https://www.instagram.com/p/CLUmOHxgDlk/?igshid=eakykwg4g76j
