TRANSCRIPT:

What sense of character can you glean from the SOUL in deltarune? Well, plenty, really.

For one thing, the SOUL is the design element that connects Deltarune to Undertale. It is in fact the “character” that is most connected to Undertale, because you the player know the most about Undertale compared to the cast of Deltarune.

If Deltarune is a “parallel narrative” to Undertale, then you, the SOUL are the tether that links them.

Like, in Chapter 1’s epilogue, you can say that it’s great to see Sans again, despite him being new in town. 

You can bring up Alphys to Undyne, despite the two not even knowing each other until chapter 2. Kris has no reason to bring this up! They’re an asocial weirdo prankster and Sans makes a pun about sleeping with their mom in the conversation where the two meet each other—which means that those are SOUL dialogue options, baby.

I think the SOUL’s character shows itself most in the Shadow Crystal bosses. First of all, the form changes are yet another (stark) connection to Undertale, but I want to focus on the prelude to the Spamton NEO fight.

Because when the SOUL shifts to it’s Yellow Justice, that’s not Kris. That’s us. Everything that requires player input is the SOUL, and everything outside that is Kris.

Defending Susie from the King was all Kris. Firing off these [BIG SHOT]s is us. It requires player input to proceed. In fact look at Kris, they’re collapsed in their roller coaster.

So you as the SOUL can just… use game mechanics like this, I guess. Probably under specific conditions, but able to nonetheless. So many mysteries in this game…

But yeah, the SOUL is everything the player can do, duh. But also, I think that it’s fascinating when Deltarune highlights everything the SOUL can’t do.

The SOUL’s vision is explicitly limited by a classic topdown JRPG viewpoint.

When the SOUL lacks a vessel, it also loses its narrator in Kris, limiting the way you can glean information from the world.

The SOUL cannot properly play piano because yes, Kris’ will, but also because our controller scheme limits our ability to interact with certain objects.

Basically, Kris lives in the world of Deltarune, while the SOUL can only play with it.

Isn’t that interesting? That, despite its extradimensional nature, the SOUL is most easily defined by its inability to live in another world? Escapism, huh? Heh. Despite the player’s presence in the narrative, we certainly are caged, don’t you think?

I need some more appreciation for Doody (@/kitsuneisi) and Maruu (@/xmaruu11). I just admire the fact they can release ~20 pages each month and still balance personal irl stuff. And I cannot stop thinking about that one ask Doody got that told them to put out more comics, guys, COMICS LIKE THESE NEED SO MUCH TIME!!!! The pace those two are already going at is incredible to me already, I could not imagine sketching, lining, colouring and rendering ~20 pages of a comic EVERY MONTH??? Even for two people that is absolutely nuts, I could never. HUGE props to them for also creating a story like DDVAU. The writing is so good, the pages themselves set every atmosphere perfectly, heck, DDVAU!Cleo started a cult in my discord server where we all had them as our profile pictures. Oh yeah, the character designs are also SOSOSOSOSOSOSOOSOSOSOSOSOSOOOOO GOOD!!!!! Also the little side characters that. Have names???? Like the two kids????? Also, don't get me started on the worldbuilding that went into this. I'm aware that DDVAU is only a spin-off or something of a bigger story Doody and Maruu want to tell (I think it was that, very unsure), but. THE WORLDBUILDING. IT'S INSANE. Also not to mention the environments feeling cohesive, the relationships between different characters being at times more complicated, the expressions, character design (again), the artstyle itself is SOSOSOSOSOSOSO pretty as well!!!! If DDVAU was a physical comic you could buy at those corner stores I'd have a shrine committed to it in my bedroom. Not kidding, I'm genuinely always looking forward to DDVAU at the start of the month :D

SPOILERS FOR WONDERLUST FINALE!!!

okay so I'm really late on watching the finale but I just finished it and WOW. I NEED TO RAMBLE.

This, genuinely, is my favorite campaign so far. Riptide will always hold a special place in my heart (and I still need to catch up on that too, soooo), but this campaign has made me laugh (and CRY) harder than I have in months. Each character is so well crafted, with storylines and personalities that are all so captivating without being overbearing. Troy's redemption arc was so amazing to watch, and I love that despite learning to be a team player he never lost his INSANE energy. I also love how Charlie decided to turn his finishing blow of Tony the Tiger (genuinely cannot remember his name. This campaign has ruined me) into an all-out, dimension-hopping final team attack with the whole gang. The visual of that scene was INCREDIBLE, and GOD I wish I could animate well bc that would go SO HARD. (ALSO JULIUS??? KNOCK-OFF GILLION TIDESTRIDER??? HELLO?!?!) Blink is probably one of my favorites too, as although he's not as loud and flashy as some of the rest of the cast is (*cough cough* troy), his arc with the gang is amazing to watch. Plus Condi being an absolute MENACE and feeding us shippers ("Yeah, I'm used to taking on six guys", Blink's whole situationship with the Overseer, EXPRESS DELIVERY <3 <3) (Also that scene where W.D. and Ripley were about to kiss and he interrupted with the letter was literally the "awesome lesbian couple" "evil and intimidating horse" meme and it KILLED ME). Runt, my beloved little rat and by far the smartest girl in the world. Tbh I don't cry easily, but when she was slowly dying in Reclaim with her family surrounding her, having to construct her own lungs, I was in TEARS. I love her sibling dynamic with Troy, I love how crucial she is to everything, and GAH!! SHE'S TOO GOOD FOR THIS WORLD!!! And W.D.!!! I love Milo SO MUCH and W.D. is a national treasure. Her romance with Ripley was fantastic (her getting heroic inspiration when Ripley smiled at her?! AAA), and their ending meant everything to me. Plus those scenes throughout the battle on the mountain, when the entire gang was getting horrifically beat up but they were still hyping up W.D. and trying to set her up with Ripley, were so hilarious and made me love this crew's bond even more. Shoutout to Bizly and his amazing NPCs, too---far too many to name, but all well-made and well-loved. (AND DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THE SOUND DESIGN. RAAHH) Edit: OH MY GOD HOW DID I FORGET ABOUT THE ORCHESTRAL JORT STORM IN THE BACKGROUND. HOLY HELL THAT MELODY MADE ME SNAP UP LIKE A SLEEPER AGENT IT WAS SO GOOD

I could rant for hours (and I WILL---mutuals beware) but I need to drink some water and take a breath honestly. Then after that I'll be drawing Wonderlust all day so yeah my schedule's pretty packed. Thank you to the whole crew of JRWI Wonderlust for putting this spectacular project together---Bizly, Grizzly, Condensation---sorry Confusion---sorry Condi,---Charlie, Milo, and everyone behind the scenes. Can't wait for Riptide to start up again!! <3

Closer look at the Betty cosplay along with separated pieces 💖💖

Wig + Headband - I used a 1/2 inch iron to curl the wig to create maximum texture!! I used a thick headband and created tiny pillows with upholstery foam!!

Corset - the most frustrating piece… I had to saw the pieces shorter and redo the entire ribbon attachment 8 times no kidding, this piece alone almost made me quit the entire project LMFAO🤧

Bustier - push up bra base, EVA foam armor piece superglued on top, you guys this thing gets so sweaty LMFAOOO I actually had to shave it down because it was making wearing the corset difficult so it’s more bra shaped now^^

Duster - this in my opinion is the most impressive to me, I used a queen size comforter and turned it into a robe it’s so heavy and fluffy I love it so much!!

I was planning on making the pants and shoes so I could take her to a convention but it got so hot in it, it would have to be a winter/fall convention 😭 so it’s up in the air if those pieces will ever see the light of day, hope you guys enjoyed watching the process :) Can’t wait for the next one!!
