I was today years old. That is disgusting.

No Child Left Behind is one of the worst things to ever be incentivized in schools. It was signed into law when I was 14. Reading Rainbow was my show as a kid. LeVar Burton played a big part in why I became an avid reader to date. The joy of it. It's an adventure around the globe and through different time periods without stepping on a plane or time machine.

Children parrot behavior. In grade school, I always wanted to read the same amount of books as my teachers (50 books) and managed to double that each year. Before No Child Left Behind, book fairs and Scholastic catalogs were a serious matter like your grandma's Fingerhut catalogs. Libraries were (and still are) a wonderland.

Reading comprehension and proficiency in schools has been declining for decades. A crisis. The joy of books isn't pushed anymore and I'm always saddened by it. It's one of the reasons why I post my book reviews and recommendations on here, as well as posts from others to encourage reading and (novel) writing. Kids will parrot your behavior while the education system sadly fails to return as that example.

"Kill yourself" is basic. "I hope your fandom gets a new installment that is objectively a great work but also tonally dissonant from the previous ones in a way that generates a huge newbie boom of people uninterested and hostile towards the history of the franchise" is smart. It's possible. It's terrifying. It's happening right now.

we have to start expressing vocal disgust at 'ironic' homophobia again in a big way. if you can't explain to me how calling a guy a twinky little fruitcake valorises the terminology vs. reducing and demeaning him for perceived femininity I don't want to hear it. nobody is off the hook for this.

No one asked but I've been thinking about Mira being transfem. Honestly, it makes so much sense that I fear I'm stereotyping but that's the devil talking because trans!Mira headcanon goes SO hard.

Obvious stuff out of the way first; she's tall, has a (relatively) deep voice, and she's the outcast/problem child of her family. They all make me feel seen as trans person so I'm deciding they make her trans too.

Also! I think it ties into her theme of not feeling like she has a place to fit in or belong.

Anyway I'm headcanoning that she got so much flack for showing bulge at the met gala that she showed up the next year in a garbage bag as a statement about the censoring of transwomen.

Yeah, that's right, I can make any minute character detail about them being trans with the power of my mind. Even the 3 second joke in the first 30 seconds of the movie
