Robert paused at the bedroom’s threshold to observe his wife reading in bed. She was one of the most beautiful women Robert had ever seen. She had become more severe through the years, though, less volatile and more grounded. Something that had happened because of all the work she insisted on doing every single day.
Robert had no reasons to complain, of course, they had dutifully divided between the two of them the duties deriving from being lord and lady of Storm’ s End: Janna supervised the castle’s economy, supplies, and general organization, besides from taking care of inter-houses politics and relationships with the sworn houses; Robert organized parties and banquets for when some of the other lords and ladies visited, which was quite often, and tended to the education of their children. As it had turned out, Janna was very competent in many things, but not in being a parent.
Renly often joked that they had reversed their roles and that Janna had taken the role of the lord while Robert had been stuck with the one of lady. Robert didn’t see himself as stuck, though, no, he would have hated to take care of all those boring stuff like numbers and politics. He liked banquets enough to know how to organize one and he loved to have enough time to teach Gendry how to joust or Isabella how to ride.
Janna had always been very good at spotting the strengths and weaknesses of those around her, she was incredibly observant and clever, something that most people overlooked, probably because she tried very hard to hide it, and she accomplished everything that she put her mind to.
“People never do what a clever woman asks them to do, while they’re very much more inclined to follow the request of a woman in difficulty,” she used to say. Robert sometimes would point out that he was a clear exception to the rule and that would make Janna laugh fondly.
He had been fooled too the first time he had met her, the second child of the Lord of Highgarden, full of gossips and dramas, she resembled the vane princess that, in all the songs, would end up with her dress covered in pitch as a punishment for her conceited behavior.
Ironically, it had been Lyanna to make him change his opinion about her.
“Are you thinking of joining me in bed?” Janna asked sarcastically without raising her eyes from the pages.
“I was thinking that you’re getting old,” he answered with a grin. Janna huffed and rolled her eyes.
“At least I don’t need to be helped by my daughter to dismount from my horse,”  she said or at least tried to before Robert crashed onto the bed and almost making her fall over.

““My lord,” he said, “King Robert is gone. The gods give him rest.” “No,” Ned answered. “He hated rest. The gods give him love and laughter, and the joy of righteous battle.””

just an idea
. Robert Baratheon would be alive (somehow he survived) and then he and Ned fight the Lannisters and his allies
. Arya and Gendry still meet each other.
. In the middle of the war, Arya and Gendry go back to King's Landing, and then Ned tells Robert that Gendry is his son. And damn, Robert is shocked. He really is a young version of him.
. Ned dies in battle. Robert arranges the biggest funeral for his most dearest friend.
. Years later, Arya and Gendry got married and all that beautiful shit. And Arya gives birth to a healthy boy.
. When Robert meets the little boy, he asks them to call him Ned, in memory of his best friend. And of course Arya says yes.
It's all i have now, but i couldn't sleep thinking in this. i don't know if someone thought about this before.

“Look at me, Gendry.” The apprentice lifted his face. Ned studied the shape of his jaw, the eyes like blue ice. Yes, he thought, I see it.

WADDAP FELLAS here to remind you that:
1) it was Arya Stark who sat at her father's table to listen to him talk and discuss matters with his people, it was her whom the smallfolk affectionally knew as Arya Underfoot
2) it was Arya Stark who was canonically better at her sums and running a household
3) it was Arya Stark who went with Ned Stark to White Harbor
4) it was Arya Stark who fred the Northern prisoners from Harrenhal, who lead this tiny group of orphans into fighting and surviving
5) it was Arya Stark who suffered with the riverlands smallfolk the true hardships of war the North was fighting
6) it was Arya Stark who was betrothed to a Frey and who witnessed their crimes at the Red Wedding first hand
7) it is Arya Stark who is our link to the BWB, who are activately avenging the Red Wedding and keeping the reanimated Catelyn Stark as their leader
8) it is Arya Stark who has a direwolf army waiting for her to use (cause she's a goddamn warg)
9) it is Arya Stark whom Ramsay falsely married to lay claim to Winterfell and the North
10) it is Arya Stark who the North is secretly plotting to get back, to rescue valiant Ned precious little girl
11) it is Arya Stark for whom Jon Snow is willing to bend the rules to rescue, letting a known Night's Watch deserter and wildling chief go to Winterfell as well as giving sound political advice to Stannis
12) it is Arya Stark that Stannis is planning on rescueing and finding a good match for
13) it is Arya Stark who is a polyglot, who is learning to spy and detect lies
Arya Stark has always had political weight in ASOIAF, always. She was never an isolationist who avoided celebrations or lurked in shadows and never shared a word with her people or the bannermen. She was and is a leader of a pack, with a strong and powerful name; strong and powerful connections; strong and powerful abilities. Never forget that, the show did not adapt it because they were unable to adapt her sister correctly so they had to give her this weird mashed up plot, but it was always ARYA STARK , who belonged in the North leading the wolves.
TWOW will prove me right, next year or in 7 more, I don't c a r e.
