We are Kraf. We are artists, makers, etc. We make things, perform, and feel inspired. We do cool shit together.

Week 30: Adobe Audition
Team Kraf figured out how to edit music and create a remix of two songs using Audition software. We would have uploaded it here as proof of our skillz but Tumblr will not let us as the mix includes copyrighted music...

Week 27: Artist Statements
What does Team Kraf Do? Kris:
My frustration with life as a feminine-presenting genderfluid person in our society that keeps me coming back to the studio, and exploring divergent realities. Socially accepted stereotypes, gender norms, and orientations, are all factors that drive me toward presenting alternatives in my work.
I play with dichotomies, often offering multiple representations in a single piece. For example, While my costumes are based in classical-beauty, my body is not considered beautiful by society. My arms may float in the air like some ephemeral being, but my feet are bare and firmly grounded.
I feel fulfilled when audience members tell me they feel inspired, and would like to do the kind of things I do onstage. They are too intimidated to try, which is why I believe I must. By embodying alternative narratives I am offering them as viable options for myself and others.
Contemporary Dance
I explore what it means to be ‘feminine’. Which movements belong to me, and which ones don’t? How is our behaviour learned? I show how our environment shapes us, and the impact that has on our psyches.
Burlesque (stage name Aurora Wilde)
I adopt well known archetypes and narratives and re-explore them. Often I flip the narrative on it’s head, questioning and defying expectations. My characters are based in fantasy and the grotesque, but offer options not presented in their original narratives.
Costume Jewellery (brand name Wilde by Wilde)
I create costume pieces for myself and others that are quality-made yet affordable. Burlesque costumes are grotesque and spectacular, and therefore expensive. There are many cheap options that will fall apart after one use, and many quality options whose prices put them out of reach.
I offer an in-between option for emerging performers who cannot yet create their own pieces, and experienced performers without the time to make everything by themselves. Raf:

Week 22 - Reworking Our Idea
Team Kraf was at the point with this project where we felt like we were pulling teeth rather than participating in a fun, interesting, and truly collaborative project. We talked it out and came up with these corrections: - more fun and exploration, less tooth pulling - more actual collaboration, equal participation and equal say - reminding ourselves that projects can take multiple weeks to finish - not about perfection - about practice, exploration, honing old skills, using new ones, and making art consistently

Week 19:
Raf is still away in Italy petting cute dogs and swimming in the sea.
He’s also on a 9 hour time difference from Kris, so she took this opportunity to start working on the music for a group number for the Screaming Chickens to perform this fall, and spent the day finding music and plotting out a sweet remix.
She sent precise instructions to Raf who will work has the music edit tech on his system.

Week 18:
Kristen liked designing and finishing her own site so much she’s making another one! Raf is helping when code or tech stuff is required :P
She already has an Aurora Wilde site on Wordpress but I’ve realized that I can do so much more with Squarespace.
Stay tuned for the finished product!

Week 17:
Kristen bit the bullet and created a website for myself on SquareSpace.
After a year or two of talking about Raf making me one ‘when he has time’, I finally did it *almost* all by myself XD .
Raf helped with pointing my domain to the new site. Check out kristenlawson.ca!
Kristen’s Edit: Yes, we did make me a website earlier in the year, but it was never quite finished. This version doesn’t require me to wait for someone else to write code, I just create and update as I please.
