Rita Golden Gelman is returning to campus Tuesday, November 26th at 10:00a.m. Dow L1. Gelman is literally a female nomad. For the past 27 years, she has traveled all over the world staying wherever she can living with no home, hardly any possessions, and only the clothes on her back.   "Gelman has visited Alma College twice before to great acclaim. She is a   celebrated author of children's books and holds an M.A. in   Anthropology from UCLA. At the age of 75, she is still a nomad,   traveling the globe, and more recently, championing a "gap year" of   service (preferably in a developing country) for students between high   school and college. For more info. on Rita, please see: http://ritagoldengelman.com/index.html "

Faculty Art Show
Gallery hours:  9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mon - Fri
                        10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays
Show officially opened Thursday, Nov 15th - Dec 6th, 2012.
The show is only held bi-annually, so make sure you check it out! Admission is free and the gallery is open to the public.
The show features paintings, photographs, drawings, and sculptures by three Alma College professors and three faculty members who are teaching because of sabbaticals.
The show includes Architectural Ceramics and Drawings by from Carrie Anne Parks-Kirby (Carrie Anne Parks) an MFA graduate from Virginia Commonwealth University. Parks-Kirby has been teaching at Alma College since 1982
Sandy Lopez-Isnardi (C. Sandy Lopez-Isnardi) has been at Alma College since 1995. She is an MFA graduate of University of Cincinatti. To her the show is “an opportunity to debut new stuff.” This year, her show includes book structure and photography. Her photography even includes some iPhoneography (photographs taken with iPhones) and some pieces taken with a point-and-shoot camera.
Robert Rozier has been with Alma College since 1983. He graduated from Michigan State University with an MFA in painting. He also worked heavily with printmaking. His work that is featured in the show is painting.
"My work represents images in China and Japan. I took a sabbatical to those areas because I like to put myself in a strange land in order to see the light and landscape in a different way, in a better yea. It affects the way I view the colors and the form, and the light. It also helps when I come back to Michigan because I see with a new set of eyes,” said Rozier.
Other artists featured in the show are Tina Vivian, Ryan Flesher, and Beth Purdy—all Alma College Graduates. Vivian went on to get her her MFA from Ferris State University. She has taught drawing for both Rozier and Parks-Kirby while they were on sabbatical. Her show this year is a display of printmaking. Flesher’s MFA is from eastern Michigan University, and his show this year will feature sculptures. He is currently teaching a sculpture class as well. Purdy’s MFA from Western Michigan University is in Painting. Her show consists of various paintings she had done.
