Film Review: <The Grand Budapest Hotel> (CN14)
1.
a. The Grand Budapest Hotel film begins with present-day book reading as a young lady peruses the history of the hotel. An author journeys to the hotel during the 1980s at the beginning of the main plot. The main narrative that Zero Moustafa tells begins during the 1930s following his meeting with the author. During that period the hotel operated as a magnificent establishment that belonged to Monsieur Gustave H. As hotel management director Mr. Gustave excellently ran the establishment together with his assistant Zero Moustafa. The main plot of the story emerges after wealthy Madame D passes away. The painting titled Boy with Apple proves to be an extremely valuable asset when Madame D hands it over to Gustave. The hotel leaders punish Gustave while the family of the deceased woman becomes upset without provocation. Following the initial action, Gustave faces jail time and escapes before experiencing a wild chase scene. The film contains comedic moments together with outrageous situations while multiple characters prove untrustworthy to each other. The biggest shock during the story arrives when Dmitri admits to Masculating false evidence specifically to get Gustave into trouble. Throughout the story Gustave passes away thus Zero inherits ownership of the hotel. The hotel has lost its former level of greatness since its heyday. This scene reveals the transformations undergone by both the global world and European society. This motion picture delivers a swift-paced viewing experience with humorous moments along with moments that create sadness. The movie presents an exciting narrative which explores camaraderie alongside exciting journeys and ubiquity of alteration in life.
b. Gustave H. runs the hotel as manager at The Grand Budapest Hotel. His behavior can be described as fancy with strictness along with strange characteristics yet he maintains his kind nature and emotional investment in poetry. His belief centers on maintaining proper etiquettes and protecting traditional ways from extinction. Under his leadership Gustave dedicates himself to building a prosperous hotel and assisting others. Gustave forms such deep friendships with Zero that he approaches him as one of his own family members. Beyond financial gain and wealthy customers Gustave dedicates himself to taking proper action. The most critical issues he faces stem from people wrongly accusing him for uncommitted transgressions and war bringing devastation to the place he adores. Zero Moustafa maintains a position as the lobby boy under Gustave's employment. As a person he shows intelligence along with his minimal speaking and deep dedication. He tries to run away from his difficult life experiences with the goal to create a better future for himself. Through teaching Zero many important lessons Gustave helps him develop into a courageous strong individual. Zero carries on the lessons Gustave taught him after the worldwide changes and he dedicates himself to protecting the history of the hotel. Friendship and kindness demonstrate their value through Gustave's and Zero's relationship despite the crumbling world around them.
c. Throughout The Grand Budapest Hotel there are many moments dedicated to reflections about missed memories of the past. The narrative demonstrates how friendships create advantages that better the lives of their participants. The time settings in the movie highlight how European luxury lifestyles were vanishing because of escalating war conflicts and political turmoil. Throughout the film the world descends into disorder because of governmental issues. All the tumultuous atmosphere had little effect on preserving some things which remained beautiful throughout. The movie features three particular items which return in multiple frames especially the painting and Mendl’s pastries along with the hotel walls painted bright pink. Three elements in the film represent both beauty and structure. The film reveals Zero's previous experiences as an immigrant through storytellings about his mistreatment. The film demonstrates how certain officials created flawed laws to establish total control. The movie presents a diverse cast of characters who belong to different social classes which results in varying forms of treatment among workers, immigrants and soldiers and the wealthy elite. Whole film encourages us to analyze why life does not always seem fair and reasonable.
2.
a. The Grand Budapest Hotel displays various time periods through a combination of special color design and camera perspective effects. Through unique presentation choices Wes Anderson manages to distinguish every time period in the movie sequence. A specific camera ratio of with its square dimensions displays the 1930s period sequences in the film. Each shot in this 1930s section of the movie appears square-shaped to create an effect resembling vintage cinematic art. The camera demonstrates unique movements through simultaneous pace transitions between whip pans and tracking shots in addition to top-down views. The staging effect enables viewers to experience the film like sitting at a live theater performance. The measured lighting enhances everything with a storytelling aura which matches fairy-tale aesthetics. The movie achieves a magical and happy appearance thanks to its light pastel color palette. Various creative choices in the movie's creation successfully add beauty to make viewers feel comfortable while watching it.
b. Alexandre Desplat served as the musical composer for the movie The Grand Budapest Hotel. The score has pleased tones which have a concurrent note of melancholy. The music includes two unique Eastern European instruments called zithers and balalaikas as part of its different instrument composition. Due to this element the film creates an atmosphere that suggests it belongs in a distant setting. The film progresses rapidly because characters speak at a rapid rate. The hotel manager Gustave presents elaborate verbalizations which resemble poetic verse during his speeches. Real-life sounds within the movie include bells and footsteps as well as train whistles. Action and realism in scenes increase because of the added sounds in the soundtrack.
c. The editors of The Grand Budapest Hotel delivered sharp and exciting transitions throughout the picture. Quickly successive shots include the ski lift escape sequence throughout the action scenes. The clip arrangement maintains a feeling of excitement as it operates at a swift pace throughout the narrative. The time jump transitions across different periods do not create confusion in the film. Each story segment in The Grand Budapest Hotel changes both its visual style and camera approach resulting in clear time period indicators. Visual indicators guide viewers through the narrative although the plot shifts its temporal structure.
3.
a. Through humor and art Wes Anderson presents different characters in his film The Grand Budapest Hotel. Gustave belongs to the refined upper-class that displays traditional European nobility. Zero arrives in the new country because he wants to establish his new life. The contrast between their personalities makes no difference because they build a strong bond of friendship. Throughout the film the director presents major concepts that explore relationships between wealthy and poor citizens and nations vying for control and warfare. The narrative remains impartial throughout because it merely presents its events without endorsing any side. The main population depicted in this film consists of white European people because that reflects the demographic status in its historical setting. The film depicts Zero's journey as someone who faces extreme challenges due to his backgrounds while the society holds mainly European identities.
b. Loyalty serves as one alongside kindness and mentorship learning and classic beauty admiration as fundamental values shown through The Grand Budapest Hotel. During the period before conflict the story preserves memories of that simpler and fancy era of social life. The war along with its new changes destroyed this peaceful lifestyle. The film introduces viewers to authoritarianism through the negative impact of demanding and controlling governments. You should learn from this story that standing independent from popular behavior is positive behavior. Gustave along with Zero demonstrate the right way to be compassionate and faithful despite all of the world's evolving changes.
c. Many movie fans along with critics showed positive reception towards The Grand Budapest Hotel. More than anything people liked how the movie portrayed its memorable characters and stunning visuals while evoking strong emotions. The movie received praise from viewers because its sophisticated dialogue combined with humorous lines. The movie portrayed political elements according to some viewers but others experienced it as a journey about preserving memories. The movie provides multiple perspectives through which people can interpret its meaning. But not everyone liked it. A few audience members refused to appreciate the creative approach since they preferred traditional narratives. An overwhelming number of viewers considered the movie to be both artistic and unique.
4.
a. Viewers find special appeal in The Grand Budapest Hotel because it boasts remarkable visuals and captivating dialogues while delivering profound emotional moments. The standout feature in this movie revolves around Gustave who delivers entertaining performance advice and attempts moral conduct. Gustave proves his unique character status because he masters the ability to evoke laughter and sadness at once. Gustave uses his wisdom to teach right behavior to others. The same as a mystery the movie releases its secrets through slow reveals about the hotel staff along with its residents. The movie maintains continuous excitement throughout because viewers receive new information during the plot development.
b. In The Grand Budapest Hotel the female characters play essential roles but the film provides limited scope for their personal development. Madame D. and Agatha serve the plot without the script revealing their internal perspective. The majority of the population featured in the movie represents one single point of origin and racial background. The movie could have benefited from including more characters who belonged to various racial groups as well as additional information about society beyond the hotel compound.
C.The world depicted in The Grand Budapest Hotel faces difficult and frightening moments yet the film demonstrates that beauty together with kindness and memory continues into eternity. Told through a fable the story demonstrates how ordinary everyday activities develop into profound effects in times to come. Gustave represents someone who existed in history by revealing elegant gentle periods of antiquity regardless of historical inadequacy. The character represents an era that barely exists yet people still recall it as they do. Through his character Zero the film demonstrates history's value as well as the necessity for people to guard its memory. According to Zero the person he met and learned from tells us to keep remembering those who form the basis of our identity.
D. The Grand Budapest Hotel stands as an awesome film according to my estimation. The film's appearance is stunning while its narrative generates profound feelings in viewers. The Grand Budapest Hotel appeals to people drawn to entertaining stories and movie enthusiasts alike. Watching The Grand Budapest Hotel provides both visual pleasure and meaningful thoughts about essential matters. This motion picture differs from routine cinema releases. The film has a unique storytelling approach besides featuring jokes that do not need to be loud or childish. If you can embrace kooky changes and heavier messages you are sure to take pleasure in this movie.

Film Review: The Grand Budapest Hotel (18)
The tale of The Grand Budapest Hotel begins with the remarks of an author who wrote a novel based on the personal experiences of Zero Moustafa, a lobby boy turned owner of the Grand Budapest. In 1932, Zero fled his country due to the war and moved to Zubrowka, where he was taken under the wing of Monsieur Gustave, the concierge of the Grand Budapest. Despite his womanizing tendencies, Monsieur Gustave was a charismatic and formal man. He ran the Grand Budapest Hotel like clockwork and never failed to please his guests. On the other hand, Zero was an unassuming and loyal man. He was awkward but always followed Monsieur Gustave’s orders to the dot. During his time as a lobby boy, he fell in love with a baker named Agatha, who would aid him and Monsieur Gustave in their exploits. When Monsieur Gustave is imprisoned for murder, Zero and Agatha team up to break him out of prison and solve the mystery behind the death of Madame D., a hotel guest whom Monsieur Gustave was falsely accused of killing. This event marks the story’s descent into a crime-filled chase full of twists and turns, with enemies lurking in the shadows. Despite the action, the movie never overplays it, instead taking the time to build on its absurdist humor, such as the gunfight and sled chase scenes. In the end, the mystery is solved: Monsieur Gustave inherits the Grand Budapest Hotel and the other properties of Madame D., and Zero and Agatha get married. However, this fortune was short-lived, as Monsieur Gustave was shot for defending Zero from being taken by soldiers, and Agatha died from Prussian grippe. Zero, having inherited the Grand Budapest Hotel from the will of Monsieur Gustave, stayed there in memory of Agatha.
Throughout the story, greed was the key factor for all the events that transpired. Madame D. was murdered by her son, Dmitri, to receive his inheritance. Despite acquiring most of her estate, he was dismayed that the painting, Boy With Apple, was given to Monsieur Gustave, whom he assaults in a fit of rage. Afterwards, Gustave and Zero steal the painting. Ironically, despite its perceived value, Dmitri does not recognize that the painting has been stolen and replaced until the latter half of the movie. Unsatisfied by the result of the hearing, Dmitri orders Jopling, his henchman, to hunt down the executor of the estate and the other parties involved in Madame D’s death, resulting in a string of murders. This eventually culminates into a fight between Zero, Gustave, and Dmitri, who are all looking for the painting, which was taken by Agatha.
Another theme present throughout the story was brotherhood. Zero and Gustave held a special, brotherly bond. As seen in the movie, Gustave trained Zero to become his future successor and stood up for him in cases where he could not. For example, in the train scene where their papers are being checked by soldiers, Gustave immediately defends Zero by saying that he has already verified them and that there is no need to arrest him. Another case is the Crossed Keys, a group of hotels that swiftly come to assist Gustave after he calls for help.
In terms of cinematography, The Grand Budapest Hotel is very aesthetically pleasing. The most notable trick employed by the director is the use of multiple aspect ratios to differentiate between different time periods. A smaller, more compressed aspect ratio is used to represent older years, while a wider aspect ratio is used for more recent years. Along with that, a wide variety of shots are utilized, usually medium, long, or eye-level shots, due to the compressed aspect ratio. Scenes are strung together through the heavy usage of sudden cuts, with minimal usage of panning and tracking, giving off a cartoonish vibe and adding to the absurdist humor. For example, in the scene where Gustave is breaking out of prison, we see his fellow inmates tossing down a ladder. The viewer has no idea how high up it is until the scene abruptly cuts to a view of the ground below, driving in the point that a single mishap would certainly lead to death. It is also notable how the masterful use of music, or rather, the lack of it, enhances the viewing experience, as no music plays during this scene. Only the howling of the wind can be heard. Adding on to that, the absence of music in most scenes makes character moments unpredictable, leaving the viewer in suspense.
Overall, The Grand Budapest Hotel is a very entertaining and enjoyable movie. The creative and intriguing cinematography, combined with the absurd and shocking humor of the film, creates an amazing atmosphere that grabs the viewer’s attention with every scene.

Film Review: The Godfather CN6
The Godfather(1972) was directed by Francis Coppola. This movie was based on Mario Puzo’s novel which is considered one of the greatest films in cinema history. It shows a complex narrative of family, tradition, and crime that is richly stylized and emotionally impactful. Exploring the narrative, visual and auditory elements and deeper insights of the film’s message.
The Godfather is a classic three-act structure.Beginning with the wedding of Connie Coreleone which was setting the stage of the introduction of Don Vito Corleone and family business. Development occurs between the rise between Five Families, leading to Vito’s assassination and Michael’s gradual shift that he initially rejected. The ending sees Michael transformed into new Don, closing the door on his identity ang promise to remain uninvolved. A plot twist that Michael’s sudden decision to kill Sollozzo and McCluskey, and his betrayal  of those closest to him.Michael Corleone the central figure. He is an outsider with a strong compass which was the ruthless head of the family.Vito Corleone, the patriarch that is wise and measured with a sense of loyalty to tradition and family.Sonny, the hot-headed eldest son which represents the impulsive violence that leads to his downfall.Tom Hagen, the family’s counselor that offers a calm, perspective and is loyal despite being adopted. Each of the character’s goal revolves around protecting or sustaining the family’s power, but their motivation can affect their deep internal and external conflicts. The film shows the theme of power and corruption, family loyalty, and the dark side of the American Dream. Consistent themes include the symbolism of oranges which is foreshadowing death, doors closing that is symbolizing secrecy and finality, and religious imagery that has violent acts.
The film uses low-key lighting. THe shadows and contrasts reflect the moral ambiguity of the characters. Camera angles place the viewer at eye level that shows powerful figures like in the movie Vito and Michael, enhancing their presence.Another was the slow speed of camera movements that creates tension and gravity. It uses deep focus and warm, toned colors generates a sense of longing and sadness.Nino Rota’s musical score is sad and memorable, showing the strong emotion about family and loss. They often speak softly, which makes them look calm and in control. Sounds like gunshots in the restaurant of the loud scream after Sonny’s death are used only needed, making it more powerful and dramatic. The editing style is deliberate and slow-placed that builds tension gradually. One of the techniques is cross-cutting, where the sacred ritual is interrupted with murders, showing the duality of Michael’s character and transformation.
The Italian-American characters and mafia culture, It shows their loyal and family-centered, but also tough and controlling.Woman doesn’t have major roles which are mostly shown as wives and daughters who don't have power. This reflects during that time most likely are male-dominated society. The godfather reflex the values such as loyalty, honor, and respect for tradition, which corrupts the influence of power. It also presents the mafia as a parallel structure and the illusion of justice. It shows both critical and commercial success. Audiences were fascinated by the deep character development, moral complexity, and blending of violence with sentimentality, by sparkling the conversations about morality, nature of crime, and hidden power within society.
The transformation of Michael Corleone , complex family relationships ,and the way the film shows the human side of criminals without making them seem like heroes made the movie engaging. The camera work, story flow, and music helps the film to become more interesting. One of the things that should be improved was the roles of the female characters, adding more dimensions to it. Serving symbols or victims could be a great idea.Power always comes at a cost, it critiques how systems of power are legal or illegal, by building on violence and betrayal. It is a tragic commentary showing how a man’s values can erode in facing ambition.I would recommend the movie because it shows morality and family. The performances, storytelling, and visual style made me a must-watch for anyone who was interested in history and human psychology.

Film Review: <The Grand Budapest Hotel> (22)
The Grand Budapest Hotel starts with a young girl that visits a monument inscribed with the word "Author" and holding a book with the same title. The scene then change to the author narrating the story which leads to a flashback of the hotel’s golden years and the main story. One of the main character of the story is Mr. Gustave, a well-known and respected concierge of the Grand Budapest Hotel who is suddenly framed for murder, who is determined to prove his innocence. He goes on an adventure with Zero, a loyal young lobby boy who quickly becomes his trusted protege.
As the story unfolds, Mr. Gustave and Zero developed a close bond, working together through dangerous and often absurd situations such as stealing a priceless painting, escaping from prison, and uncovering the mystery behind the murder. Mr. Gustave takes great pride in mentoring Zero, eventually preparing him to become his successor.
The film adopts an old-time background. The camera angles, dull colors, and vintage aesthetics gives the film an old vibe. This shows the era in which the story occurs, also using classic cars and the importance of newspapers. The editing reminds the audience that this is a story within a story.
The film’s use of sound and music made the atmosphere more dramatic. An example is when a severed head is revealed, the sudden burst of sound increased the horror almost like a scene from a horror film. Another example is the intense conversations like the one in the confession box, the music adds tension and anticipation especially just before Serge’s death. During the chase scenes, the fast paced music matches the chase and excitement.
The film also shows themes of social hierarchy and privilege. The guests at the hotel are wealthy white individuals, while characters like Zero, a refugee from a Middle Eastern country, are shown as servants. This reflects historical class and racial dynamics, showing how wealth often shields people from consequences such as Dmitri, who murders his mother in order to receive his inheritance without immediate repercussions.
One of the film’s strengths lies in its twists and suspense. Viewers are constantly left wondering whether Mr. Gustave will be able to clear his name or be doomed to spend his life behind bars. This constant tension makes the viewers engaged.
The main themes of the film are loyalty, legacy, and time. Zero’s unwavering loyalty to Mr. Gustave is eventually rewarded, and we see how their relationship shaped his life. The film also delivers another message that nothing lasts forever. The once great hotel has become a nearly abandoned building.
The Grand Budapest Hotel is a film that combines drama, humor, and suspense. Its structure and narrative makes it one to watch. It’s a film that not only entertains but also shows viewers memory, legacy, and change, which makes it good to recommend to others.

Do You Get The Message (14) I. The poster that I chose is from the movie "100 Tula Apara sa Stella." The target audience of this movie are teenagers, young adults, and adults that are a fan of the genres romantic and coming-of-age movies. This film was directed by Jason Paul and produced by Viva Films and became a part of the 2017 Pistang Pelikulang PIlipino. The purpose of this media is to promote a movie that wants to talk about a person who didn't get to tell the person that they like about their feelings. The main message of this poster is to show how hard is it to express your love to the person you like especially when you are apart from each other. The codes that they used are symbolic codes for the chairs that are distant together to represent the distance of the two characters. Thr poster really gives a good representation of the movie's romantic feels.
II. The song I chose is "Ako Naman Muna" by Angela Ken. The target audience of this song is for those people who are going through tough times. Especially to those people who is usually the one taking the extra step to be there for other people and forgot to take care of themselves. This song is written and sang by Angela Ken and was produced under ABS-CBN Star Music. This song aims to give people a reminder that it is okay to prioritize yourself and giving yourself a break. The main message of this song is to give yourself time to heal and take care of yourself first before anything else. One of the codes that they used is wirtten codes for the line like "pagod na akong maging sandalan." Which means that they are tired being the one who's always there taking care of other people. The slow beat of the song really gives that sentimental feeling to match with the meaning of the song.
III. The music video I chose is "Ang Huling El Bimbo" of the Eraserheads. The target audience of this M.V. are adults or older generations that are big fans of good storytelling videos. The producer of this M.V. is BMG Records and it was directed by Mark Meily. This M.V. aims to tell a sad story about their past regrets and how life is very unpredictable. The main message of this M.V. is to show that time can change so many things and how it doesn't always go your way but there are very unpredictable moements in life that can cause regret. One of the codes that they used is written codes for the title. it means that El Bimbo is the last dance they they danced together. The dramatic feels of this video really helps with the storytelling of the song.

After a seven-year gap, Porter Robinson released his second album, Nurture, in 2021. His first album, Worlds, was met with critical acclaim and, as such, he felt pressured to meet the expectations of critics and fans alike, resulting in a period of severe depression. Nurture was created to express his feelings during that time. As shown above, the album cover depicts the artist lying in a field of grass, serving as a visual representation of the album's themes of life, nature, healing, and growth. The vibrant colors of spring create a sense of tranquility while contrasting the album's deep subject matter, such as death, love, and burnout. Ultimately, the cover effectively presents the overall themes of the album while attracting new fans searching for relaxing music.
2. Song -  “Look at the Sky”
Written and produced by Porter Robinson, “Look at the Sky” was released on January 27, 2021, giving much-needed reassurance to those struggling during the COVID-19 pandemic. The song features soothing piano melodies along with uplifting lyrics and instrumentals to invoke feelings of hope. Lines like “I cherished the flowers beneath my feet, but then something must have changed in me” and “Look at the sky, I’m still here, I’ll be alive next year” reflect the artist’s determination to continue living while suffering from depression. The song’s message is further enhanced through the music video, which will be discussed in the following paragraph.
3. Music Video - “Look at the Sky” - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJBh_hj6DzE
The music video for “Look at the Sky” heavily uses greenery and other aspects of nature to instill a sense of serenity, going hand-in-hand with the main color of white, representing clouds. Multiple cloaked figures in white, presumably ghosts, represent the artist’s expectations of himself, both positive and negative. They can be seen playing instruments along with the artist while also constantly staring and leaning toward him, reflecting the burden of expectations. However, at 3:48, the camera pans down to reveal the same ghosts holding up the ground beneath him, showing that he channels those negative expectations into something positive. At the end of the video, the artist looks at the sky while the camera pans upward. When it comes back down, the artist has also turned into a ghost as he has embraced those expectations as part of life. Overall, the song and the visuals blend perfectly to create a memorable and meaningful experience.

Do You Get The Message? (22)
The Avengers Endgame poster was created by Art Machine which is an agency who often partners with Marvel to design posters for their films. The poster was intended to attract the attention of mainly Marvel fans, the youth, and adults. The purpose of the poster is to attract the attention for the movie hopefully leading to increase in sales and hype around the movie. The main message of the poster is that there will be a final battle with all of the Avengers against the main villain, Thanos, which they were unable to defeat in the previous film. The poster was created with the help of written codes and symbolic codes simply by indicating that it was the endgame and potentially being the final Avengers movie. The way that they are all looking and aiming at something with readiness could mean that they were getting ready for battle. I believe that the format used is appropriate for the message because it is building suspense and hype to what can potentially happen in the final Marvel Avengers movie.
The song “Lush Life” was produced by Sharmaine Kelly, Linus Wiklund, and Ira Wiberg, but was sung by the artist Zara Larsson. The intended audience of the song was teenagers and young adults. The purpose was to encourage people to get out of their comfort zones because one never knows who much time they have left. The main message was to live life to its fullest like there was no tomorrow, never having any regrets because tomorrow is never guaranteed. The song was created mainly using audio codes by having continuous energetic beats and having lyrics which relayed the main message of the song. I believe that the format used is appropriate because the lyrics and beats are cohesive in relaying the message of the song.
The music video “Levitating” was sung by Dua Lipa and DaBaby but was produced by Stephen Kozmeniuk, a Canadian songwriter and producer. It was intended for teenagers, young adults, and social media influencers. The purpose of the media is to give people a sense of escaping from reality and problems, giving a sense of relaxation where people can just enjoy and not have any worries. The main message of the music video is that being in love is like walking on clouds, having someone by your side supporting you and having no worries. The music video was created using audio codes and technical codes with a relaxing and energetic beat to the song and showing videos of people simply partying, enjoying life, and having no worries. I believe that the format used for this type of music video is correct since the beat is cohesive with the message of the song.

Media and Information Literacy Entry #1 (18)
Whenever I think of my childhood, I always look back on the media I’ve consumed. For example, watching cartoons such as SpongeBob SquarePants and The Amazing World of Gumball was my way to unwind after a long day of doing addition. Once the weekend finally arrived, I would immediately beg my mom to unlock my iPad so I could play Minecraft all day. If I got bored, I would simply watch YouTube videos until I was forced to get off. Eventually though, I grew up. My time to relax had been reduced and my interest in those activities had waned. Not only that, but most of the media I see now involves corrupt leaders giving speeches and targeted harassment towards minorities. With all the negativity around, I can’t help but feel nostalgic for the days where I wasn’t aware of my surroundings; however, I refuse to let the media control me. Instead of spending my time mindlessly scrolling X, I will do an analysis on my media usage and the media itself and utilize my realizations to develop my character.
To begin, I frequently use X and Reddit to view content related to my interests such as music. If I have some leisure time, I usually play games or watch shows on Netflix to relieve my stress. On average, I spend about one to one-and-a-half hours consuming media on weekdays and five to six hours during the weekend. Although, I don’t do it all in one sitting. There are gaps in between to account for school and other responsibilities; however, those gaps only exist because I procrastinate. It has been a problem I’ve been struggling with for years, and my attempts to correct it have been unsuccessful due to my bad habits. Some of them include grabbing my phone after working for a few minutes and constantly checking Discord or Messenger. As a result, my work piles up, forcing me to sacrifice my sleep and my health in order to finish them. Another issue I have is the rise of bots and trolls. At this point, the dead internet theory is now a reality. I often see posts made by bots appear on X with the sole purpose of farming engagements. Consequently, I ended up becoming more wary of the info I’m reading. These posts usually contain simulated and formulaic scenarios involving a cheating partner or a sob story, making it easily discernible from real posts. Along with that, there are trolls spreading right-wing propaganda and disinformation. In order to combat this, I have adopted a “false until proven” mindset. As a rule of thumb, I do not believe any claims made on social media until I have researched it thoroughly and have found multiple reliable sources supporting it.
From something as small as sleeping late to as big as mass brainwashing, the media holds a lot of power over society. Although, it is up to us to choose whether or not we get overpowered by it. Through my observations, I have noticed that the way we interact with the media determines our behavior. For example, keeping things out of reach. After putting my phone far away from me, I have managed to continuously write for more than 30 minutes. The extra effort required to grab my phone deters me from doing it just to check my messages. In conclusion, we must carefully choose how we consume the media in order to positively influence and maintain our well-being.

In our generation, we are often referred to as "Digital Natives" because we were born into a world filled with various digital devices such as computers, laptops, and smartphones. These devices grant us easy access to different types of media and information with just a few clicks. Personally, I use a variety of media sources, including broadcasts, games, films, shows, and social media. Having this access is very helpful in our daily lives.
As a student, media is a huge part of my daily routine. On average, I spend more than 10 hours a day using media both for educational and entertainment purposes. For instance, when studying, I go to various social media platforms when I need help with my academics as there are tons of  people and channels that post tutorials to help students better understand their lessons. I also use media for entertainment during my free time, like watching movies and shows or playing games on platforms like PlayStation and Nintendo. I also listen to broadcasts, such as AM and FM radio, for news updates and entertainment while on car rides. Lastly, Social media platforms, like Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, is my main source of entertainment, and I use it regularly during meals, breaks, or before bed.
Since I spend most of my time in the media, I often encounter various types of information, such as celebrity news or other trending topics like rumors. To make sure that the information is accurate, I double-check its authenticity on news pages like ABS-CBN or GMA or on broadcast channels like AM radio before believing it.
Being a student in today’s digital age, I also use a variety of computer software and apps to help me with my studies. I use Google Docs to take notes and draft papers. Microsoft Word is another tool I use for writing papers and taking notes.  For creating posters, presentations, and reports, I always use Canva. When preparing for quizzes, I use Quizlet to make flashcards and help me with my revision for incoming exams. These apps and websites help me be more efficient and effective in completing my tasks and studying.
For entertainment, I enjoy watching Netflix and Disney+ and using social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. Communication has also been more convenient through apps like Messenger, Viber, and WeChat, which are very convenient for us to communicate with family and friends especially if they are far away. Being in another city, province, or even country with our loved ones could be hard but because of the presence of the internet and all these social media platforms, we feel as though distance might be shorter between us.
In conclusion, I think that it is safe to say that the media has a significant impact not just on our generation but also on other generations. Media has been a part of our daily lives and it could affect us in so many ways. From waking up every morning and checking your phone for messages or any social media updates to saying good night to our loved ones from miles apart, our lives would not be the same and much more complicated without it.

Media and Information Literacy Entry #1 (CN22)
Media is essential for everyday use in life. The way media is conveyed has changed through the years. It changes to improve the life of people on how they receive information. Media may come in many forms such as television, newspapers, magazines, radios, and now even apps like Facebook, Instagram, or Messenger. In this era of technology, accessing media is very convenient, and therefore most people rely on media for business, research, and as a means of communication. Unlike before, media has now made life easier. There was a the time when people had no access to media, which prevented them to the grasp on the vast knowledge of the entire world.
I often spend up to four hours a day using Facebook and Google during weekdays for academic purposes like research projects. I also use this as a means of communicating with my classmates or groupmates. However, it could take up to six hours a day during weekends or vacations. This is because I often would use Facebook, Messenger, and Instagram for my business and to keep me up to date with the latest news about what’s going on in the world. A problem about media is that sometimes we stare at our phones using media all day and not getting any work done. I try to use media responsibly and try to become more productive. I would always discipline myself by dedicating the last few hours of the day after I accomplish my academic and non-academic tasks before using media. This would allow me to eliminate sources of distraction that would hinder me to be productive and finishing my assigned tasks for the day.
Whenever I would like to get information about a certain topic, I often open my phone and look it up on Google. I believe that Google’s information is mostly reliable. However, we must always have the ability to evaluate the source and have that skill of media literacy. This will allow us to be more cautious of the unreliable and fake news that is roaming around the Internet. Fake news is a real problem in media these days since it can spread very quickly. Most people don’t authenticate the information they have before using it since they believe that information on media is always authentic and sometimes people are too lazy to do it. We have to make sure that the information we have has been checked and authenticated. People must also know how to engage in the digital world safely by always double checking the sources obtained. I also often ask my family about information obtained from other websites like Safari to authenticate it.
Media functions as my source of information. I use it in order to stay updated on the latest news, track weather forecasts, and even for academic purposes. It has made my life so much easier and convenient by being accessible and easy to use. I cannot imagine a time where media wouldn’t be useful. It is accessible to the general public and it gives people a sense of security by allowing them to just simply look up any information they desire to know.
