In south Kerala at north end border of the district Trivandrum, Varkala beach is an ideal holiday destination in Kerala for the tourists who want a peaceful vacation. The view of sunrise and sunset from the Varkala beach is an exotic treat to watch. The beach is popularly known as Papanasam beach since it was used by Hindus to scatter cremated ashes of their relatives has now emerged as one of the most popular tourist destinations in Kerala. Its beach is famous for its natural springs which are said to have medicinal qualities. The 2000-year-old Janardhanaswamy Temple along with the Sivagiri Mutt attract a steady stream of visitors all year long. Many Ayurveda centres have been set up in the area as well which only adds to its appeal.
Varkala beach is probably the main reason for most travelers to go to Varkala. It is a great beach to escape the crowds in Goa. It is also a great sustainable choice to avoid over touristy places and spread the tourist money elsewhere.
