“Mountainside Lavender Farm” Oil 11” x 14” I painted for the 2021 Lavender Festival art exhibit. I always enjoy participating and painting the beautiful lavender farms. This was achallenging experience because I forgot my brushes. I painted with a 3/4” palette knife.

A few of the Vineyards I painted from October 1st to November 29th. It has been challenging to use only a palette knife for first time. It has made me look a landscape painting totally different by focusing on the shape of each color. Focusing portion of the color size in relationship to the shapes adjacent. Not to looking at it tree that now I have to paint it green. I have been a realist painter painting every leaf on a tree. It is so hard not to painting a tree by multiple strokes. ⠀ ⠀ Why am I limiting myself to a palette knife? I read an article about getting older that we need exercise our minds. We must do totally things that are totally different than usual routine. To focus on something we have never done before! For example, if you have never played a violin. Get one and take lessons and practice and make your mind focus and excise new parts. ⠀ ⠀ I have really hated palette knife paintings. To make myself to do this has been mind bending. Now I look forward to getting outside and completing a painting in 3-4 hours. Forcing myself not to go over and over adjusting everything again. Yes, you can but with a palette knife using thick paint you make a mess and need to scrape it off and start over. My trick to this problem is to start at the top of the painting and work down.
