Ted chuckled, momentarily picturing how he could just transfigure the guy into a hamster or a tea cosy. "Nah of course not, but he is a knob! I s'ppose ah could change him into a door knob..." He trailed off and laughed once more. "Well, not according to that tosser's tweets." He glanced at his phone again, reading a recent tweet which was implying Ted needn't bother showing up. "Tosser" Tucking his phone away once more, Ted shook his head. "Dromeda, i've literally just spent a full week with her so she could keep away from my dad. Plus she'd be fair heart broken if ah showed up without you." Liz was a fantastic mother to ted, and she'd always been there for him as both a mother and father, but she had always wanted a daughter. When his matneral cousin was born, ted's mum couldn't get enough of her, buying little pink dresses and dolls. Ted presumed this was why she enjoyed Dromeda's company so much. They were, in some way like eachothers missing part he guessed. "Ah mean, unless you don't wanna come. Cause thats fine too."
Andromeda couldn't help but laugh. She clasped her hand over her mouth to stifle the sound. They weren't supposed to be welcoming attention to themselves. She had known him for years and his accent and terminology still pushed her into a fit of giggles. "A knob? Oh Teddy... you didn't transfigure him, did you? I think that would qualify as cheating!" she gasped at his admission. "Yes, hexing would also be cheating. You couldn't do that. You're too good to resort to magical means." She had seen quite a few of his fights, always fascinated not necessarily by the fight itself but more so the crowd that seemed excited to see such physical violence. The violence she was used to always was dealt with magic. It could be done at a distance with a simple utterance and wand flourish without the caster being tainted with proof of the deed. Here... there was a requirement to be in the other person's space, no doubt who cast the hardest hit. "Speaking of your mam... are you sure that I won't be taking up time? I love spending time with her but I don't want to interfere with her bonding time with you. You and I see each other plenty..."

Ted's smile slightly grew as his gaze remained on Dromeda, sometimes when it was just the two of them he couldn't help but notice how perfectly her hair fell around her face. He could feel his cheeks start to warm up as he looked into her eyes for too long, so he looked away for a moment, busying his hues with the book titles just beyond where she stood. "Ah quite liked gettin' away from my dad.... missed my mam though. Guess ah was always quite torn, but it felt like belonging, especially in Gryffindor...." He stopped himself from going further.... why did he find it so damn easy to open up to Dromeda all the time? He wasn't really the sort of bloke who just spoke his mind. In fact, on more than one occasion his mother had gotten annoyed at how much he kept back. Coming back to the moment at her question, Ted nodded. "Ahh yeah, big brute.... big twat." Ted's smile faltered somewhat and a glint of annoyance flashed in his eyes. "He's a knob. Usually the guys are alright... but he's been making tweets about the fight all day..." He paused and handed her his phone, which had screen shots of the guy talking about how the fight would be over in minutes, if not seconds. "Suppose ah could hex the prick but that would be cheatin'"
Andromeda turned her gaze back to the man in front of her. She was putting him in danger just by talking to him, but she couldn't help herself. Even before she realized her feelings, she felt drawn to him as if there was a constant accio charm cast. His life was fascinating to her, and part of her wished she could bring herself to leave everything behind to hide away in the Muggle world. Of course, that was not in the plans. It couldn't be. It was too selfish a thought and it wouldn't be fair to him, her sisters, and her family. Meda felt it would be best to continue living in the in-between.
"Sometimes... although it wasn't exactly a simpler time back then. It was just complex in a different way," she explained. Andromeda tried to keep a bright disposition as much as possible. It was a coping mechanism in order to block out any of the negative emotions that came out of her childhood experiences. But of all people, she was the most herself with Ted. If anyone could tell if she was putting on a facade versus being truly happy, it would be him. "What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be prepping for a big fight or something?"

Ted couldn't help but smile, he hadn't been able to really speak before he was being pulled into a book shop. The grin on his face reached his brown hues as they came to a stop. Ted was always glad to get a hug from Dromeda, though he always worried, not for himself, but for her. He quietly wondered sometimes if it was selfish of him to be friends with her, when he knew what the Blacks were like. Honestly, he found the whole thing sort of daft and sort of archaic. It was funny because Ted had spent his entire childhood hiding from his father all that he could do, because Edward Tonks did not approve. And yet Dromeda was on the other side of that. "Ah know, it sorta makes you wish you could go back, doesn't it?" He smiled again as his eye caught sight of a group of Gryffindors run by outside. "Brilliant times."
Andromeda instantly lit up as soon as she saw that it was Ted. It was hard to keep herself from hugging him in a public setting. Even if it was just as friends, she knew of the terrible things that her family was capable of. Her being best friends with a Muggle would not be tolerated even if she was graduated and no longer reliant on her family's fortune. She looked around and pulled him further into the bookstore to hide amongst the shelves that no one bothered visiting. "There... much better," she said, finally greeting him with a hug. "I'm just out by myself. You know how nostalgic I get for back-to-Hogwarts shopping."

Ted was never sure if he should talk Dromeda just out in the open, but he couldn't always help himself. He was always just so excited to see her. Yes, he had just seen her the previous evening, and there was probably a reason why he had a sudden rush of excitement every single time, but he wasn't going to get into that. "just me." He said with a smile, chewing her his lower lip. Ted briefly looked over his shoulder. "Are you on your own?"
Andromeda always loved this time of year. All of the wizarding families flitted in and out of shops, collecting all of the necessities for the start of school. She could remember the feeling of excitement, getting to be out in Diagon Alley which was a welcome warmth from the chill of the Black family manor. She stood in Flourish and Blotts, which was busier than ever. She had no true reason to be there. Sure, Meda could use yet another book on charm crafting or the history of curse breaking, but for the most part, she was there to enjoy the people watching. She turned and jumped slightly, not expecting someone right there behind her. Meda chuckled as she calmed down. "You are a sneaky one, aren't you?" she greeted with a wide grin.

Location:Diagon Alley Ted was just back from visiting his mother, he liked to keep a healthy balance between his two natures. If he was honest, as wonderful as the magical side of his life was, he always appriecated how grounded his muggle life was. Everything in Diagon alley felt sort of off at the moment. His two worlds felt like they were colliding and not in a good way at all. "Has that always been there?" He said mostly to himself as he nodded at what appeared to be a shop selling enchanted muggle items.

Despite all of the years that she knew Ted, there was still a lot about the Muggle world that she was learning about. She wasn’t kept up to date with all of the music and bands that he was talking about, so she had to trust that whatever he picked out was good. “Definitely could go to the record shop. I suppose we’d need to get some Muggle money. They would look at us strange if I pulled out some sickles and knuts, wouldn’t they?” she chuckled as she set some of the books on the shelves.
It had be a while since they had gone out just the two of them. Even though his mom was supportive, Andromeda felt guilty for constantly relying on the older woman to care for Nymphadora. As it was, her own work schedule kept her away from the energetic child. Dora was tiring but completely worth it. She brought so much light to their lives that she almost forgot that she was estranged from her family.
“Don’t ye know me at all?” He mused with a soft chuckle. “Always got some muggle money on me, don’t ah.” Ted always kept a small amount of muggle cash in his chest pocket, mostly because he was through fairly often given that his parents and grandparents all resided there. “But yeh, don’t go pulling out galleons at the local takeaway by mistake.”
Ted didn’t think too much about his mother taking care of Nymphadora, only because he knew that his parents weren’t exactly getting along in their old age and their granddaughter seemed to cheer up Nicola Tonks to no end. He’d never admit it, but seeing his mum happy was one of Ted’s biggest concerns outside of Meda and Nymph. “Are we ready t’ go then?”

When she first found out that she was pregnant, she was scared. Andromeda had just gotten her freedom from her family. She wanted to live a life unrestricted of her family’s control and societal expectations. Being a mother meant giving up some of her freedom again. At least, that’s what she initially thought. But giving birth changed Meda in a way that she never imagined. She was driven to be the mother that her own failed to be. She wanted the world for Nymphadora and was determined to do whatever it took to give that to her. Andromeda pulled him back towards the shelves that she was stocking and handed him some of the books. “You can help me put these on the shelves. Jut this box and we’ll be good for the night. As for tonight… I don’t know. Something low key. Perhaps just going into London and walking around? I don’t need anything extravagant.”
Eyeing the box that Meda passed him, Ted feigned a sigh of exasperation with a smirk on his face. In actuality, if he were to have his own way, they would spend more time like this, though he also knew that neither one of them envied the others job. How Meda was able to deal with the rude customers was beyond him, Ted would probably last half a day before telling some entitled knob to bugger off.
“London sounds good t’ me. We could swing by my mums house after to pick up Nymph.” Humming to himself as he placed books on the shelves, he tilted his head to the side as a thought occurred to him. “Actually, Ah wouldn’ mind a wee look in a record shop, Fleetwood mac have a new record out.” There were many things about his muggle upbringing that Ted happily cast aside, though music was never one of them.

ravenclawspride:
“Just fine,” Avery assured the man as a soft smiled graced her features. As a Ravenclaw who read a lot of books while she walked even, it hadn’t been the first time she had been run into or done the running into. “Though admittedly a little fresh air is what anyone needs after,” she motioned to the place around her. A lot of the store’s customers liked to hand out there but Avery preferred other places to here.
“Question is are you okay?” Clearly anyone distracted enough to run into someone had other things on their mind.
Ted had always been completely useless at names, though he did have a decent memory for faces, and he knew that he recognised the woman as a fellow ex Ravenclaw. Something that he always had in common with his housemates was that they usually had their heads elsewhere, deep in thought. Mind you, he usually managed not to physically bump into someone.
“Ach aye, Ah’m fine.” He said reassuringly. “Just abit embarrassed. Been non stop all week and apparently it’s taken a toll.”

Andromeda loved listening to him talk. His accent was one of the many things about him that she was attracted to. Sure, others couldn’t quite make heads or tails what he was saying but she had learned how to decipher his words over the years. She chuckled at his response and rubbed her hand up and down his arm. “I just have to close up shop and finish moving these boxes. Then I should be good to go. I would love a date night. It’s been a while. I love Nymphadora but I could definitely use a bit of a break,” she admitted. Being a mother so young was unexpected for her, but she cherished every moment of it.
Ted hadn’t expected to be a parent so young, but he wouldn’t have it any other way. He had always wanted a family of his own, but never in a million years thought he would be lucky enough to actually have it. When he had first set eyes on their daughter, he didn’t know it was possible to love anything as much as he loved her.
Tilting his head as his smile softened further, “Y’know what my mums like, she’ll happily ‘ave Nymph for most o’ the night if we let her.” Ted’s mother had always wanted to have a daughter, as much as she doted on her only child, Ted always knew that she would have liked to have a girl too.
“Two questions then, whatcha feel like doin’? And what can ah do t’ help?”

Life since she had been disowned had been a whirlwind. She left home and Ted had graciously welcomed her into his home. It wasn’t too long after that they had their little Nymphadora. She still couldn’t believe that she was a mother to a rambunctious five year old, but she was grateful for her little family. The only thing they hadn’t done was get married. Meda didn’t have family other than Sirius to invite anyways and they were working hard to get by. It didn’t make sense to waste what little money they had on something as extravagant as a wedding.
She set her box down and grinned as she saw who entered the shop. “Ted! What are you doing here? I thought you had work,” Andromeda said, wrapping her arms around him. With their conflicting work hours, it was rare for them to have an overlapping moment of free time that didn’t involve sleeping or taking care of Nymphadora.
Ted’s playful smirk only softened as the pair embraced, and he pressed his lips to her temple. “Moody let me get away, ‘cause of me comin’ in early this morn.” A tired chuckle left his lips as he shook his head. “Maybe he’s gettin’ soft in his old age.” That definitely was not the case, if anything age had only made the Scotsman more brazen. Luckily for Ted though, he did seem to appreciate hard work and would very occasionally reward the trainee Aurors for it.
Raising his hand to brush away Meda’s hair from her face, Ted tilted his head for a moment. “How much ye got left t’ do? D’ya need help finishing up? Me mam said she can take Nymph until late tonight, if ye wanted t’ go and do something.”

Roots; Family Tree Prompt
From left to right, Edward Andrew Tonks; Paternal Grandfather, Elizabeth Tonks nee; Jones; Patneral Grandmother, Eric Michael Tonks; Father Eddie Alexander Tonks Paternal Uncle, Nicola Tonks nee; Mackay
Clearly the ginger was his grandmothers fault, and for any fellow UK residers, yes that is Rita from Coronation Street.
I thought about going even further back, but I’ve already spent alot of my time on this believe it or not. I have a family tree page on Ted’s blog but the code kept f**king up so here we are.
Edward and Elizabeth met eachother when they were young teenagers and started to date when they were 15. Neither one has ever loved anyone else, Liz often says that she knew the moment she set eyes on him that she would marry Edward. A sentiment that is shared. Edward asked Liz’s father for permission to marry her when the two had turned 16, and he happily agreed. Never straying far from where they first met, in the north of England, very close to the Scottish border. They settled down in a little village, and Edward got a job on a farm, whilst Liz stayed at home. It wasn’t long before they welcomed their first child into the world, and named him after Edward. Eddie Alexander Tonks. There was a few years between their first son and their second, this was because by the time Eddie was born it was 1916, the first world war was in its second year. Edward and his wife Liz were both only 20 years old, and it was highly probable that Edward would be called to arms, which he eventually was.
The war was the longest time the couple went without seeing eachother, it actually makes Edward and Lizzie laugh when Ted refers to it as the first Muggle war. Edward was away from home for a whole two years, writing home when he could, being shipped off to the likes of Japan. By the time he returned, Eddie was nearly three and walking. Something that Edward has never forgiven himself for missing. Two more years by before Eric, Ted’s father was brought into the family.
For a fairly long while their family of four lived a very peaceful and quiet life on their Edwards farm, which he had now bought from the old owners for whom he used to work.
Eric and Eddie however, didn’t have the best brotherly relationship and Eric moved away from the family home when he was seventeen. Not because of his parents, but because of his brother. It was around this time that he met Nicola, who he would go to marry. The pair met just after the second war had ended, Eric never fought in it, though his brother did. Which was something they argued over, although Eric could not join due to his asthma.
He’d never in his life met someone like Nicola, she had lived in Liverpool, which to a man who had grown up on a farm seemed so massive. She was outspoken, and yet caring, loud but in a way that was endearing, at least to him. Her thick scouse accent was so warm and inviting to him. Truth be told, the first few months of their relationship was somewhat of a whirl wind, though they were together for a few years before their first and only child was born. It was when Nicola fell pregnant that Eric bit the bullet and brought himself and his pregnant soon to be wife home to his parents. Of course, Edward and Liz welcomed her into the fold without any hesitation and whilst Eric tried to figure out exactly where they would live with their child, the Tonks family spent alot of time together, even Eddie welcomed Nicola into their lives.
Although naming the first born son Edward was somewhat of a Tonks tradition, Edward did not expect it. And he cried when he held Ted for the first time, and it was actually his Grandfather who called him Ted first. “Well I’m afraid Eddie is taken, but y’know what, ye look like a little teddy to me.” Nicola warmed to it immediately and shortened it to Ted when he got slightly older, though she does refer to him as Teddy occasionally.

A playful smirk grew on Ted’s lips as he heard Meda call out. He was usually at work at this time, but he’d been let away earlier than normal, on account of the fact he had started earlier. It meant that he hadn’t really seen sight nor sound of his favourite person since the previous evening.
Slyly, he changed the ‘open’ sign on the door to ‘closed’ Not giving himself away by talking, because his thick northern accent would give him away to even a casual onlooker, nevermind Meda. So instead he cleared his throat, as he slid his hands into his pockets and leant against a book frame, waiting for her to turn and look at him.

Even though it was just the beginning of the summer season, Flourish and Blotts was busy stocking books for the new year. There were boxes of inventory to go through and no amount of magic would make the job go any faster. Andromeda didn’t mind it. She loved hiding away amongst the bookshelves. It had always been her safe space even back in her early years at school. It was where she hid whenever her parents visited. It was where she ran off to after being disowned from the family. And now, it was where she could be alone with her thoughts. The war was getting more intense and she knew that her family would have their own hands in it one way or another. She sighed at the thought as she went up to the front to grab another box.
Andromeda heard the front door’s bell ring and she set the box down to check around the corner for who it is. “Feel free to look around. I’ll be with you in a moment!”

At the best of times, Ted was a pretty laid back guy, the only time that changed was when he visited his parents. More specifically, his father… Eric Tonks was a corse northern sorta bloke, the kind that called a spade a bloody spade. “Jesus christ Ted, do you want to practise magic tricks and pull rabbits outta hat, or, d’ya want to be a man?” But with everything that had been going on, he had felt obligated to check in on his mum. Ted was always happy to see her, even if he felt three stone heavier after every visit. “Don’t go listening to him, his head is so far up his arse, ah’m shocked he can hear anything….. here take some food away with ye”
He’d only just walked through the Leaky cauldron when he walked right into someone else. “Oh blimey, Ah’m sorry, wasn’t lookin’ where ah was goin” He chuckled softly and raised a hand to rub his head, where he had collided with the other. “Ye alright?

Ted had found himself free for the rest of the day and fancied a little walk, it had been a long week. He had sat two Auror exams the day before and he needed to unwind from all the late night cramming the past week had presented him with. He was just wondering if he wanted to get some lunch at the three broomsticks or if he wanted to venture into the muggle world and visit a McDonalds.
With his hands in his pockets as he seemed to choose the three broomsticks mostly for convenience, he very nearly collided with someone else. “Oh blimey, ah’m sorry, was away in my own world there, not payin’ attention to the world around me.” He said with a small laugh. “Ye alright?”
Though Diagon Alley arguably had a better selection of shops, there was something Marlene had always loved about going to Hogsmeade when she had the chance. The little village was quiet compared to the bustling London shopping area, but the nostalgia was second to none. From her third year onwards, she had delighted in the Hogsmeade weekends, both for the change of scene and the element of freedom that came with being outside of the school grounds.
Lost in her memories she rounded a bend in the street to head towards the Three Broomsticks, and it was only her sharp reflexes which kept her from crashing into someone. “Sorry!”

just-what-the-doc-ordered:
It had been four days since Uncle Dafydd gave Caradoc an ultimatum, five days since Caradoc had been home from the hospital, and six days since he had momentarily stopped breathing.
His uncle had become accustomed to checking on his nephew at night to make sure he wasn’t passed out face-up. Dafydd had found Caradoc laying in bed on his stomach and breathed a small sigh of relief, knowing he’d drank a lot that night. ‘It’s Da’s fucking birthday, and I’m going to drink to him being another year closer to death.’
He had turned to leave his nephew to sleep but a cold creeping feeling of unease came over him. Everything felt too quiet. He went inside, turned on the lamp, and tried to rouse him to no avail. He smacked his face a few times and yelled into his ear to wake up. No answer. Dafydd finally checked for a pulse…. Oh, thank god! It was weak, but there. He scooped him up, ignoring the pain in his back from a long day working at the docks and the fact his nephew was fairly heavy. He put Caradoc in the backseat of his car and sped to the nearest hospital, where doctors immediately set to work on saving his life. There was hardly a moment that Dafydd wasn’t with Caradoc, and when he couldn’t be with him he argued with the doctors until he was let back in. ‘He’s too young… Please…. I’m responsible for him…. He has to be okay…. He has to….’
When Caradoc blinked his eyes open groggily late the next afternoon, he felt like he’d been hit by the Knight Bus. His head was pounding, his eyes throbbed the moment light hit them, and his entire body just felt wrong. He felt like he wanted to be sick but there was nothing to bring up. Dafydd heard him stirring and rushed to his bed side. When Caradoc finally managed a decent look at him he could’ve sworn Dafydd had aged twenty years in only a night. He should have bloody apologized for what he put his uncle through, but it’s like the words in his head just couldn’t connect to his mouth. He stayed quiet, while his uncle sobbed from relief and fear. It would be too much for Caradoc to let himself feel the shame at that moment. He was too vulnerable, so his mind put up walls. They’d however be temporary and soon enough the guilt would seep in anyway. It always did.
Caradoc was sent home the next day. Like a zombie he shuffled into his room, where he paid no mind to the empty bottles strewn across the carpet as he made his way into bed. Sleep claimed him for hours, but when he awoke he wasn’t alone. Dafydd was at the foot of his bed, watching him with a worried expression. It seemed he had been there a while. Caradoc was about to ask what was the matter when Dafydd burst into tears. He begged Caradoc to go get help, offering to assist any way he could. But as usual, Caradoc insisted he had things under control and that he didn’t need any help. Why bother? He felt he was beyond help anyway at this point, although that’s certainly not what his uncle would want to hear. ‘Caradoc, damn it! You’ve got to take this seriously! Serious as the bloody grave you nearly put yourself in!’ Dafydd shouted, desperate to get through to his nephew. ‘I can’t keep watching you slowly kill yourself without it breaking my soul more than any man could bear. You’re not just taking yourself down, but the people around you too. Caradoc, you need to get help. You need to stop drinking. Or else, I can’t let you stay here. It’s just too much…’
Self-loathing filled Caradoc’s mind. He had caused his uncle so much pain, when the man had done so much for him the past few years. How could he be such a selfish jackass? He found himself wishing his uncle hadn’t found him the night before. A dark thought that seemed to ache his entire soul because it was so heavy and so painfully real. Dafydd was right. He was killing himself with the drinking. Maybe that was subconsciously his goal the whole time. Looking at his uncle’s haggard face, he simply nodded and said ‘Okay, Dav’. I’ll try.’ He just didn’t have much (or rather any) hope that he’d succeed.
Caradoc stood outside the apothecary in Diagon Alley, finishing up his cigarette before going inside to get supplies needed to brew a couple potions he needed. He wasn’t much of a potioneer, but could manage simple recipes. Herbology had been more his thing, so he at least knew which plants could likely help him. He had been having trouble staying asleep ever since he woke up from that initial several hours of sleep after he got home from the hospital. Anxieties plagued him and he needed something to knock him out and quell the dreams. He was also hoping to brew up something to stop the headaches and the shaky hands he’d been experiencing. It’d been days since he’d had a drink, and he knew he was probably going to fall off the wagon soon but his uncle’s worrying kept him fighting for now. He didn’t want to let him down, even though it felt inevitable to him that he would. He always seemed to let everybody down eventually.
He looked down at his cigarette held between his twitchy fingers, and sighed at his inability to control the shakiness and knowing he probably looked half mad. He lost himself in thought for a moment, remembering the past few days as if he’d witnessed it from outside his body. He’d hardly noticed somebody speak to him. “Wait, what’d you want?” he asked, leaning in a bit to hear them repeat their words.
It had taken Ted months to be taken serious enough to actually be accepted onto the trainee auror program. It wasn’t that he didn’t have the grades, he did, it just seemed that his reputation of getting into fights at Hogwarts had proceeded him. Alastor Moody wasn’t exactly thrilled about having him on board, thinking that Ted was nothing more than a hot head, or maybe he thought that he was a muggleborn with something to prove. Either way, he had finally backed down and allowed it. Ted hadn’t worked this hard since being within the walls of Hogwarts. How Sirius managed to train and work night shifts at the Three broomsticks and still be able to function was frankly beyond Ted.
At this point he had been awake for easily around a day and a half, planning on picking up some food and heading home for a much needed sleep. Thank god he had tomorrow off work. Sliding his hands into his pockets, he let his mind slip into wondering what sort of food he wanted. Something hot from the leaky cauldron sounded amazing, or maybe something sweet from Honeydukes, or hey maybe both. As he absentmindedly traipsed down the cobbles, his eyes landed on a semi familiar face. Spying a cigarette in the others hand, Ted crossed the busy street to ask if he happened to have a spare. It was a habit he was trying to break, but damn, he could use one after that shift.
“Sorry mate, ah was just wonderin’ if ye happened t’ ave a spare smoke on ye.” Managing a sleepy smile as he spoke. “Didn’t mean t’ bother ye.”

molly couldn’t help but to laugh at ted’s comment about not recognizing her on her own. she was sure he wasn’t the only thing that would think so. it didn’t often happen, seeing as arthur was working later and later hours. “arthur’s parents have them. he managed to get the night off for once.”
“Ahh, well deserved I dare say.” He said cheerfully. Briefly scanning around for Arthur, he didn’t want to be an imposition on their date night. “Where did he go off to?” Ted didn’t really know Arthur that well, he always seemed to be busy with something when he was in the Ministry, though he always said hello to the older Wizard. “Ye know.... I don’t actually think I’ve ever seen him outside of work.”
