I'm kind of obsessed with the way sheep are handled. So efficiently. It always looks kind of unpleasant at first and then you notice the sheep are fine with it. They're always being flipped upside down and rolled down a chute or some shit. A shepherd will be tossing that thang in the air and spinning it like pizza dough & the sheep just lets it happen

american gun culture literally has so many people convinced that the plot of Funny Games might happen to them at any time and the only way to prevent it is to vigorously defend their right to murder anybody who steps foot in their home
#I have read gun ownership motivated self defense material#and attended self defense handgun classes as well#and the best parts that I remember for it#involved designated positions of retreat within a house#and avoiding contact with the potential intruder for as long as possible#the first principles I actually internalized were avoidance and STRUCTURAL defense#and at the very VERY last possible line#when every other alternative was exhausted#up to and including the theoretical position#of being in a locked room with someone agggressively trying to break it down to attack you#announcing that you have a gun and are willing to shoot#as a means of hopefully deterring them#if and ONLY if all those other points are exhausted#only THEN was it reasonable to shoot#I do not like guns#I am aware of the absolute basics of using them#and I do consider self defense to be a right#but the way I was taught it was truly a last resort#situational awareness avoidance and barricades are the first#plus de escalation and such

I know I've said it before but every rewatch I do cements this thought further - elijah wood's performance in LOTR is absolutely insane, they really had a character whose name means "wise by experience", hired an 18-year-old to do it, and he delivered so much that not only is it a beautiful and moving role on its own, it's a performance equal to those of the absolute powerhouses he played side by side with like ian holm and ian mckellen. to name just a few
