So... camping out in the woods during winter was a thing that Andy decided to do. For mysterious reasons. Hey, if it got him out of the house, it was good in the eyes of everyone else. He pushed up his glasses, analyzing the branch he held in his gloved hands. It was now that he was realizing he knew very little about camping outside. The freezing air against his face made it hard for him to think, too.

He turned to the boy joining him on this escapade, who seemed to be having much more luck with collecting firewood.

"Hey, ah... thanks for helping out, kid. I think I'd freeze out here if you weren't here. Where'd you get so good at, uh... camping? Outdoor survival?" As per usual, this was more of a rhetorical question, simply Andy thinking out loud. He scanned the area around them - a comfy clearing in the woods, not too far from a pretty view of a lake. "Nevermind that, where do you wanna set up our campfire?" He asked.

WOULD ANYONE LISTEN TO THIS? the thought repeats in andy’s head, as his thoughts often do. his eyes scan the various pieces of notebook paper in his hands, pages numbered in the corners to create some type of order amidst his chicken scratch, doodled around and edited with red pen. along with the red is more markings, this time in blue - little question marks, astericks, and notes to himself. only andy could comprehend these ramblings in their entirety. probably.

“psst. mat.” he nudges the man seated next to him with his elbow. “you’re smart, right? yeah. you’re smart.” he whispers.

“would anyone listen to this?” he finally says those incessant words out loud. his hands flip through the pages. it’s paragraphs upon paragraphs of aliens and various unexplained events in andy’s life, though it occasionally goes off-topic to talk about other, more mundane things. he sighs, tidies up the papers into a stack and sets them down on the table.

❛  I hope you can find some peace… or you know… some happiness.  ❜ || Mortimer scratches at his chin, nails scraping against his jawline like it'd offer some sense of direction. he offers a smile to Andy, coal black eyes twinkling lightly with the prospect of hope. he's aware they don't know one another well, but he hopes the gentle consolation offers something good...After all, he figures Andy would have lost his little mind if he knew what Mortimer and a handful much too big to people he could count on one hand had gone through. || - @relicsunk​

“Mm! Yeah.” Andy’s voice cracks a little when he answers and his lips then press together as he nods. He’s not used to hearing these kinds of reassuring words, much less from anyone other than the few people close to him. He looks to Mortimer, giving a faint grateful smile in return. His tense shoulders relax just a little.

“Thanks. Y...You too.” Gah, was that the appropriate thing to say? He’s unsure. Everyone’s been through something, right? 

“I appreciate that...” He quietly adds.
