naegiri dynamic often gets boiled down to 'strong smart capable girlhusband and pathetic malewife' whereas that's fundamentally untrue. makoto's strength lies in the fact that his backstory is incredibly normal and therefore gives him the power of normal logic, something that most people in this franchise don't have. kyoko's willingness to literally do anything, including threatening to light herself on fire, to complete a case is his counterbalance. she helps him learn how to think of things outside of the box and in return, one day he finds her poring over a web of red strings at 3am and very gently goes 'what if it was the butler' and suddenly she's ripping the string down and going to bed
