there is nothing more humbling than a random 7th grade boy you don’t know telling you how tired you looked, unprompted and in detail

i still cherish that at the end of a class last week a middle school girl asked me if i wanted to know a frog fact and then very happily told me that you can pet them if you wash your hands well

last week i think a teacher told another teacher to keep watch to see if i was a student in the faculty bathroom and then it was awkward when i left as she awkwardly smiled at me and said hi bc she recognized me as an adult and substitute

an 8th grader said they knew a girl in their grade who did “A Court of Mist and Fury” for a school reading project? do the teachers know how inappropriate that book is? 😭

almost every time i substitute teach, i hear a student doing the “what was i made for” meows

funny moments from today as a substitute teacher for 8th grade:

i got mistaken for a middle schooler

a girl said i looked like i listen to country music and i can’t tell if that was an insult or a compliment or what

i overheard a boy talking about how he wanted to get rich as an adult and then spend all his money gambling and then die and he sounded really happy about it (he was joking. i think)

a kid called a squishy ball a “coochie ball”?

a boy told me that i should yell at kids in class because it’d be “entertaining”?

today i got asked if i was a new student at a middle school i work at… i am in my early 20s haha
