Montgomery County Fair Grounds: October 2017
I visited this location on a fall day, it was beautiful and I found the old racetrack and it’s assorted buildings aesthetic pleasing to my eyes. The land was recently sold and while no official date for demolition has been set, it will be soon. It was important to me to record the some of the original structures before such an event. Keep reading if you want more info and history.
The old fairground has been a staple of the city of Dayton from its original build date of 1874. 38 acres of land in downtown Dayton held horse races, fairs, meets, concerts, political events and even the Wright Brothers and their Wright Flyer in 1909. With times changing the structures have slowly decayed. The city of Dayton discussed for years what to do with the historic property. In early 2017 the land was sold to the University of Dayton and Premier Medical for redevelopment. The Montgomery Fair Grounds will be moved to a new location in a nearby township. Leaving the original structures in flux.
One of the most important is the Roundhouse. It is the largest of 5 that still remain in Ohio and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. Its historic importance stems from its age and design, as such structures were only built from 1871-1889.This particular Roundhouse and designed by Leon Beaver, a Daytonian in 1974. Some reports I’ve read state that the Roundhouse will be saved/preserved.
“An Agricultural Society spokesperson has said the landmark Roundhouse will be incorporated into any new development or moved and rehabilitated.“             -http://www.mydaytondailynews.com/news/local/year-round-events-planned-for-new-fairgrounds-site/pXT5p3GuruxA4hldDfSz1M/
What that ultimately means for the historic building is anyone’s guess.

the misogyny speech
my favourite thing ever in the history of this universe is the misogyny speech. i love it. i love it so much.
for those who don’t know what the misogyny speech is: australia’s PM julia gillard was our first female prime minister and was bullied relentlessly throughout her career by sexist politicians saying that as a woman she was unfit to lead. and then. then. one day, julia gillard snapped.
the resulting three-minute speech, known simply as the ‘misogyny speech’ in australia, was possibly the most epic smackdown seen in australian political history, surpassed only by “i wanna do you slowly”. it was incredible. students memorised it and marched through the streets yelling it. a national australian choir arranged it as a five-harmony piece. even hillary clinton went out of her way to meet julia gillard and tell her how fucking awesome the misogyny speech was.
i, personally, have the misogyny speech memorised. because i live in tony abbott’s electorate, and my dream of dreams is to see him at the shops one day and follow him while yelling it.
the misogyny speech: as australian as vegemite.

The Internet: The Last Unconquered Frontier
Hey kids! Time to support net neutrality, aka your ability to access any site you want at any time you want. Without regulations from the FCC, internet service providers could make certain websites lag to make themselves more money and your day more inconvenient. John Oliver has a really good bit about this from this week’s episode of Last Week Tonight. Check it out!
And comment on this website: gofccyourself.com to let the FCC know how much you care about a free and open internet.

I saw this happen as a kid and it sucked.
I saw this happen as a teen and it really sucked.
I  see this happen as an adult and I'm starting to get really angry.
I understand just how terrible this is the older I get. Market segmentation sends out such damaging messages. Not only that but instead of accepting a bigger fan base these company's disenfranchise whole groups of willing consumers and remove anything that brought them in to begin with.
Its been NINE YEARS and i still dont think anyone knows exactly why teen titans was cancelled

you know, when Marvel did that shitty plotline about Cap being a Hydra agent (aka a Nazi) I wasn’t pleased, but I saw a ton of activity on my dash about it. People were angry. I think it was trending on Twitter.
personally, as a Jewish girl, I was a lot more hurt when the MCU had Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, two Jewish and Rroma children of Holocaust survivors, whitewashed and volunteer to join Hydra. And when that happened, I never saw a single post about it. No one cared, even though the thing with Cap was a gimmick, and the thing with the twins was outright ignorant anti-Semitism.
I understand that Steve Rogers is everyone’s favorite white guy. I understand. but if you care more about that than the Romanoffs, then I’m not sure you understand much of anything.
I see that the same writer who did Captain America is a Nazi has written Magneto is a Hydra Nazi too. and I see exactly one person on my dash posting about it.
now, maybe it’s my own fault for following the wrong blogs. maybe I expected too much of people, to care about things like this, things that affect Jews.
when I made a post about the Cap thing a few months back, I was yelled at by a Holocaust denier and whined at by a white German who was “tired of being blamed” for history, as though history is not our responsibility, as though history is not always right beside us.
so here is my post about the Magneto-Nazi-Hydra thing: the political climate has been harshly anti-Semitic lately. it’s been anti- a lot of things obviously. but my people’s cemeteries are being destroyed, my people’s places of worship and community are being threatened, I have seen more swastikas this year than I have in the past five, and Marvel just put their single most iconic Jewish character in line with their fictional Nazi order. and one fucking person on my dash is talking about that.
I expected better. I don’t know why I expected better. no one in this modern world seems to know how to treat Jews. are we people of color? are we a minority? are we white? are we all Zionists? what are we and where do we fit?
you don’t need to have all the answers. I know I don’t. it would just be nice to know that someone gives a shit, now of all times, about how my people get represented and treated in the media. there’s been so much anti-Semitism in the news lately, maybe you don’t know what to say. to say about the real news or this Marvel plotline or any of it.
so you know. if you even care at all about something that harms my community much more than everyone’s favorite white guy getting a stupid plotline, could you say something? anything? don’t just “like” a post, it’s useless. if you don’t know what to say, reblog this, reblog something else, I don’t care how you do it, just say something. anything.
please. please say something. we can’t drown out their voices on our own.

Yuri on Ice interview translation - Animage 2017/01 (p20-23)
I was going to post this last week but gave priority to the BD stuff. This will be the final interview from the booklet that came with January Animage! There’s still an interview with Kenji Miyamoto left untranslated, but it will be taken care of by @whiteboxgems whenever she has time! I’ll reblog it when it’s around.
This is actually 2 interviews, I’m posting them together because they were one after the other and (main reason) because the second one is very short. A few notes below to better understand the interviews.
The first one is with Yuuichirou Hayashi, the one who created the ending (ED = ending by the way) footage. I have the feeling someone previously posted translations of the captions under the ED screenshots, but I don’t remember where and I’m pretty sure it was just the captions and not the interview parts, so here you have it complete. This one is pretty interesting because he explains in detail how they created the ED, and has some extra information on cut scenes etc. Definitely a must read in my opinion!
The second one is a short interview with Kayoko Ishikawa, the one who did the costume designs. Here you might think: didn’t Chacott design the costumes? I’ll explain. It’s more or less like with Mitsurou Kubo and Tadashi Hiramatsu: Kubo created the original designs for the characters, from scratch, and Hiramatsu transformed them into designs specifically created for animation, therefore with simpler lines, detailed expression sheets and so on. Likewise, Chacott did the original designs for the costumes, from scratch, based on the indications by Yamamoto and Kubo, and then the anime’s costume designer simplified and modified them so that they would be suitable to be animated. (Before actually animating them there’s a further step: the anime’s color designer is going to decide the exact colors, shadows and highlights included, that will be used inside the anime. I translated an interview with the color designer Izumi Hirose some time ago)
I usually don’t add pictures but this time I felt that it would be better to add them as an immediate reference. However, they are just for reference and are not meant to be visually stunning, so please bear with the quality because I just took photos of the magazine with my phone and quickly edited them.
Translation under the cut! (kind of image-heavy)
***If you wish to share this translation please do it by reblogging or posting a link to it***
***Re-translating into other languages is ok but please mention that this post is the source***

So re-blogging this, not because of just yoi but because that last part? About anxiety? That hit me right at home, every damn day.
okay probably a really dumb question but i keep reading how yuuri is an unreliable narrator - due to rl circumstances i could only watch every episode once so far and... can you please put up some evidence??? distressed fan here waiting for wednesday to arrive and clear everything up @_@
There is no such thing as a stupid question! So, off the top of my head some of the bigger moments that reveal how unreliable Yuri is are:
Yuri saying that no one is rooting for him because he took Viktor away from skating, despite a lot of people actively rooting for him.
Saying that he was one of the “dime a dozen” figure skaters sanctioned by the JSF despite being one of the top active Japanese figure skaters (if not the top Japanese figure skater).
Yuri assumes people only cheered for him because he was the “hometown boy”. But we’re shown how Minami and all the other Japanese skaters at the district qualifiers look up to him, and even ask him for photos/autographs. So we know that he has his own fan following acquired on the merits of his skating.
Yuri already has told us he wonders if Viktor secretly wants toquit, though Viktor has said he doesn’t want to.
Yuri assuming he’s not friendly with any of the skaters atRosteldom despite Sara seeming friendly with him.
That they had never had really interacted much before Viktor came to Japan, even though he had gotten drunk and had a dance off with all the skaters at the banquet.
Yuri assuming that Viktor came to coach him on a whim, and whatever was keeping him there was tenuous. But the real reason Viktor shows up in Japan at all is because Yuri asked him to, and essentially sent him a love-letter in the form of a perfectly replicated gold-medal-winning routine posted to YouTube.
And the biggest: That Yuri thought he was the one chasing Viktor, when Viktor probably fell for Yuri that night at the banquet and has been chasing Yuri this entire time.
[I’ve probably missed some, this is just what I can remember off the top of my head. If anyone has others, add them!]
Basically, Yuri’s anxiety keeps him from seeing things related to his skating and how talented he truly is clearly. He tends to undervalue his abilities, and overvalue his competition. In a similar way, he undervalues his worth as a person, and a partner to Viktor, and interprets Viktor’s otherwise innocent actions as indications of Viktor wanting to leave and go back to skating. It’s rather consistent, actually. A lot of times his words and reactions to things don’t align with what we are told or see from others (mostly Viktor). Episode 11 was full of things like this. Just look at Viktor’s reactions in episode 11 and tell me if they look like they belong to a man itching to get back onto the ice and compete again:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because they don’t to me. But that is how Yuri takes them. Every frame he is looking at Viktor, the tone is darker, and some are even overlaid with foreboding music, starting with the moment he walks up the stairs to see Viktor watching Yurio. This is, in my opinion, just the latest in a long string of incidents that show just how unreliable Yuri is, and how much his anxiety affects his thought processes.
And it’s highly realistic. As someone who struggles with anxiety themselves, it is something I myself deal with a lot. When your anxiety flairs up, you often find yourself wondering if people only put up with you because they feel bad for you, or obligated to. Or wondering if the people you hang out with you actually like you, or if they’re just humoring you. If people could hear my inner monologue when my anxiety is at it’s worst it would run something like this. “There is no way they actually like me. See that, they aren’t even smiling at the joke I made” and “They’re ignoring my snapchat, it must mean they hate me.” Even if in reality they adore me, and they didn’t smile at the joke because they couldn’t hear me over the crowd, and they aren’t ignoring my Snapchat, their phone just died.
Yuri’s anxiety is portrayed incredibly true to reality, down to the self-doubt, the second-guessing, and the irrational fears that the people you love secretly resent you.
