These past few months have been the most tumultuous months of my life. On April 10, 2018 my dad was diagnosed with ALS. When I heard these words over the phone as I was getting ready for my flight, my heart shattered, my tears were uncontrollable, and my mind went into shock unlike anytime before. I felt nothing but pain, nothing but fear. It has taken everything in me to continue being the person I am because I know that’s what my dad needs right now. To all those who unknowingly made me feel that it’s okay to smile and to those who willingly took time out of their busy lives to be there for me and my family, I just can’t put into words what it means. The strength of love and support is amazingly overwhelming and I’m forever grateful. It has taken deep reflection and moments of tearful silence to realize that this hardship will not define my family, myself, or my dad. But it will be the single most difficult experience that has made us ever stronger and will continue to do so. Dad, you’ll be my best friend and my hero, today and everyday.
