i think aiming to make college institutions places of learning that are sustainable and aren't gruesome mills that crush the the human body, mind, and soul in the name of obtaining a degree is kinda like trying to get the united states to not be the vanguard of global white supremacy. to do such things would be to change them so much that they functionally no longer exist. but so long as you have it in mind to change the fundamental nature of these things, you're going to be lead to reformist methods that won't actually end the suffering you're rightfully fighting against.

trans women specifically are so hated that getting mistaken for a trans woman is dangerous. thank god all of us can clear up that we aren't trans women to defuse that tension a little bit, thank god we can all fall back on not being trans women when it comes to legal matters. imagine if you couldn't do that. sure would suck if there was a type of person who couldn't do that. glad none of us are like that though.

Today, in honour of the death of Pope Francis, I would like to recall his tireless struggle to make my life worse.

Both the same-sex marriage and gender identity laws in Argentina passed while he was Archbishop of Buenos Aires, which is to say the most prominent religious figure in the country, and he fiercely opposed them (famously calling the former a plot by the devil to destroy God's plan).

As a transgender lesbian in Argentina, having legally changed my name and gender and being married to my wife, things that have made my life enormously better and would not have been possible if he'd had his way, I can only say this: fuck you, you piece of shit. We won, you lost.

The next pope will probably also be a terrible person, because that's a requirement for the job of head of the Catholic Church. May it fade into irrelevance in my lifetime.

"why don't trans women do any domestic labor" is right up there with "why do trans women never date each other" in terms of questions that show that you know nothing about trans women. except in this case the idea that trans women don't do domestic labor is instrumental in maintaining the social hierarchy that keeps trans women doing domestic labor. the idea that trans women are male-socialized and therefore predisposed to exploit the domestic labor of people who are female-socialized keeps trans women in the insecure position of having to prove themselves by taking on historically feminine domestic roles. the reification of economic feminist analysis into biological/socially-essential categories presents the perfect opportunity for tme partners & roommates to benefit from exactly the type of economic exploitation being criticized.
