Tess: girl, you tell me. they have been driving me crazy. unknowingly because i still haven't said anything to them about it but still! i really don't think it's that hard to take proper care of your plants if you choose to have them. i don't even hate on artificial ones because at least they're aware enough to get a plant that can still look pretty but not kill it. Tess: they do have a little dog that i can hear yapping from time to time, but i'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt with that one and believe they don't neglect their pets the same. hopefully.

Tina: not gonna like i was like lowkey highkey offended at that first message and then thankfully the second one came in soon enough before i could response Tina: but omg tess what's with you and these plant killer neighbors you have? do they not care about green thumbs and pretty plants? Tina: and i totally do not think you sound crazy or that it sounds crazy. because seriously why buy something you're not gonna take care of?? that's just a waste of money and a waste of a plant. these people don't have pets do they? i'd be concerned they're as lazy with them too

Tess: okay but animals are the universal exception where nobody can judge us for watching cute animal videos for hours, so you're in the clear. Tess: oh my god, are you for real? that is... yeah, i could have gone without knowing that too. there are so many weird little corners of tiktok where i'm like 🤨 but i mean as long as it's innocent enough and it's not hurting anybody i guess it's fine.

Dove: right? i'm constantly telling myself "just a couple of videos and then the phone gets put down" and then three hours later i'm still scrolling through videos of dogs eating cheese. Dove: the worst one though was when it decided to show me videos of people dressed as dora the explorer. honestly had no idea that doracore was a thing and could have gone my entire life without knowing that.

Tess: those plants of yours look like they're dehydrated. you should take care of that before someone else does it for you. Tess: ...oh, shit, sorry. that was meant for my apartment neighbor. there's this little registry in my building listing a number to call if you need to get in touch with a neighbor. i was hoping a vaguely threatening text from a number they probably don't know will scare them into action? Tess: ...which sounds crazy, but i'm at my limit, tina. i can't keep looking at their sad, drooping plants.

WYR: have a pause or a rewind button in your life?

If you'd asked me this back in my teen years, it'd be hands down a rewind button so I could hopefully go back and fix all my awkward social interactions. These days, though, I'd definitely go with a pause button to make the good moments last a little longer.

Right? I like a show being on for some background noise if I'm working on something else, but that definitely doesn't fly if I'm actually trying to watch the show and follow what's going on. There you go then. So, what are you thinking for options then? You can't go wrong with one of the more classic ones you might not have watched in a hot minute.

No need to apologize! I get where you’re coming from; it can be tricky to juggle multiple tasks while trying to follow a show. I either get distracted by the task and miss the show or, like right now, get distracted by the show and get nothing done. Rewatches might be a good idea—honestly, that idea has been the winning suggestion all around. But there’s something comforting about knowing what’s going to happen, and it’s easier to keep track of everything.

You know what? I'll do you one better and give you thirteen. Hands down, the books I have the fondest memory of ever reading was the entire 'A Series of Unfortunate Events' series.

This might be a tangent, sorry, but I don't know how people actually manage to multi-task with things like TV shows or movies. To be fair, I don't even really watch that many shows, but when I find one I'm into, I feel like I always end up missing whatever happens in the episode because I end up getting singularly focused on whatever other thing I'm doing. All that being said, I can't say I have too many recs myself, but I feel like maybe going with a rewatch might be a better option to keep your focus.

So, I finally started watching This Is Us while trying to get everything ready for back to school, and I swear, this show is so distracting than I anticipated! I keep finding myself caught up in the drama and forgetting what I was doing. The emotional roller coaster is real. I’m almost done with the first season, and I’m definitely going to need a break from all the tears and tissues before I can tackle my to-do list. Anyone have some recs for me that maybe won't be so distracting? I know I have time still, but at this rate, I'll still be prepping on the first day!

What’s something unimportant or frivolous that you hate passionately?

What I'm about to say probably isn't too crazy or an unpopular thing to get annoyed about, but as someone that lives in an apartment building, nothing annoys me more than obnoxious neighbors being way too loud. To make matters worse, I tend to always avoid confrontation, so I just kinda sit there and stew in my annoyance until they finally stop.

Tess was a little nervous. But it was the kind of nervousness that, at this point in her life, it was to safe to say she'd gotten used to. They were just the usual nerves that cropped up whenever she knew she was about to willingly put herself into an overwhelmingly social situation. At least, though, she believed she'd actually gotten fairly good at pretending those nerves weren't there. Plus, she did feel pretty cute today, given she'd opted to add a flower crown to her outfit.

In any case, though, she'd quickly found herself at the alcohol tent, admittedly eager to get at least one drink in her system so she could loosen herself up. But, just as she received her drink from the bar, she turned a bit too quickly and splashed its contents toward the person closest to her. "Shit, sorry," she sighed. "Definitely didn't mean to do that."

TESS: that's true, you did say that. if you ever get any, i wouldn't totally mind teaching you a little bit. maybe you're not a complete lost cause. TESS: no, thankfully. at least... not yet. if i have to look at it too many more times, i might just have to try my best to be stealth and do it for them. i know you'd be grateful, but i tend to think they'd just be offended if i said anything to them.

NIK: If I were said neighbor, I'd be grateful for the help. As I've mentioned before, I'm kind of a lost cause. NIK: Sooo, did you do it? if so, were you caught?

Tess: stop me because i feel like they'd definitely be offended and then it'd be awkward!! Tess: see, though, i can't even fault you for that. at least you're self-aware and know that about yourself. it annoys me so much more when i see people get new plants and just continuously fail to take care of them properly, so i'm all for you caring for the ones you know you can handle and getting some artificial ones for the rest.

Tina: why stop you when it sounds like you're just looking at the best interest of the plants which i fully support Tina: not like i can talk though i mean it took me years to finally get a knack for caring for plants and even still there's only a few that i can keep alive on my own and most of what i have in my home are not real 🫣

Tess: ugh, i was gonna tease you about it being telling you felt paranoid, but that joke doesn't land as well if you literally tended to them yesterday. Tess: stop!!! i didn't need any more tempting!! i feel like they'd definitely be offended if i said anything to them. Tess: ...maybe a little bit of watering if i see them looking bad again tomorrow. i can totally be sneaky.

Olivia: This had me double checking my own plants even though I literally tended to the garden yesterday. Olivia: But I definitely don't suggest going over to offer to look after them unless you know for a fact that they won't get offended by the suggestion. Olivia: You could do it in the middle of the night if they don't have motion sensitive lights or anything, though. 👀🤷🏻‍♀️

Tess: i swear, i die a little inside every day when i get home and see my next door neighbor's poor suffering barely cared for plants through their window. Tess: please stop me right now from being a weirdo and going over there to offer to look after their plants myself.

In no particular order, right at this moment, I'm going Reflection from Mulan, What Else Can I Do? from Encanto, and I See the Light from Tangled.

A wise man. And, damn, I must be a pretty good saleswoman if you're gonna buy some flowers and bring me a drink. I do have to work tomorrow morning until the afternoon and a tea does sound pretty heavenly.
