    Sparrow was born on one of the longest running communes in southern California with no idea who his biological parents were or what his classification was. He was nursed and raised with a handful of other children at the same time. There were plenty of adults who he called “mom” and “dad” and others “sibling” and “cousin” even though he didn’t look like any of them. It didn’t matter because he was loved and respected. On the commune, he was taught whatever he wanted to learn and so spent a lot of time doing theater, making costumes and writing jokes. There was no internet, but there were plenty of books- a bit dated- but good nonetheless.  

    When he was eighteen, he was given a couple options. He could learn his parentage and his classification. He was allowed to leave, if he wanted. Until now, his contact with the outside world was limited to brief doctor’s visits and the occasional errand run, if he wanted to tag along. Nothing about the outside world really interested him and, for the most part, he was content to stay with his family on the commune. On the day of his birthday, he chose to carry on as he had, but with a little more autonomy, he started going to bookstores and the library. Then, he started renting CDs and movies. He was there so often, he became friends with the library staff and began volunteering on the weekends to reshelve books. 

    They thought he was fascinating and he liked sharing stories about his loved ones, but when he brought a rented camera to the commune, the leaders had to hold the line. It was without malice they addressed Sparrow’s growing infatuation with technology and the world around them. For the safety of those on the commune, he couldn’t keep living halfway between these worlds. And so it was with tremendous love and support, they set him up in an apartment in the city with enough money to service him for a year.  

    Quickly, he realized how important his classification was to civil society and finally opened the file with his personal information listed. Submissive. For years, he speculated that he was a switch, having enjoyed every manner of engagement with others on the commune. He never suffered drops. No one ever treated him better or worse until he started applying for jobs and ran into obstacle after obstacle of people making assumptions and asking invasive questions. Eventually, he took a job teaching yoga at a community center and began chronicling his life in blog posts on the library computers.

    That year went by in a blur and by the end of it, he had over fifty thousand followers on a handful of social media accounts. His platforms were filled with day-in-the-life content, commentary videos and essays on current events and topics that interested him personally with regard to submission. His growth on social media was rapid and in the next year, he tripled his numbers and left his old apartment for a condo in Los Angeles. The attention was nice, no doubt, but with this much media attention came with immense scrutiny and judgment.

    Less than a year at his new home, his address was leaked and he became aware of a stalker who was taking private pictures of him and posting them anonymously on the internet. He tried moving again and again, but it seemed like no matter where he went in the city, this person was always there, watching. Sparrow kept it a secret, not wanting it to affect his advocacy work, but things escalated to a point where photos from inside his house began to appear online. Sparrow never found out who it was, but when he left California to go on a tour, he seemed to lose the stalker all together. In his mind, if he just kept moving, he couldn’t be found and that went on for years until Lowell. He was quite happy to do it, too. Sparrow ended up meeting with other communes across the country and once again found sanctuary in communities where free love was the normal way of things.

    Sparrow was prepared to leave Lowell and all the pain it brought him behind until the news broke that Lowell was accepting scholarship students. He knew immediately what he had to do and applied to teach, not knowing he’d meet Jonah Beckett. It happened quickly and quietly, Sparrow not wanting it to be known how he got together with such a staunch traditionalist. Against his better instincts, he let JB in. Behind closed doors, he let himself be pushed in ways he never thought he’d go, all in the hope that JB would also make some compromises, hoping against all evidence that JB wanted something real.

    When it all eventually came to an end, Sparrow thought he could move past it, but seeing JB every day, looking every bit the man he wished he had, made it impossible. And he doesn’t know when he’ll stop wanting him.

Secrets and Motives:

secret one: He’s still in love with JB. The fact that they were even together was a well-kept secret, but that’s not to say there aren’t already rumors or speculation.

secret two: He is planning on organizing counter action against the so-called Order of the Primrose

motive one: Continued to push Lowell Academy to be less exclusive and reform the traditional, submissive and switch oppressive teachings.

motive two: Get over JB! (by getting under someone else?)

The last 4 years of their claim were especially strained with Ash spending more and more time at Lowell studying under Prof. Kelly.

This can go 1 of 2 ways. 1: Berrada/Ayala enrolls at Lowell in attempt to win Ash back. (Maybe they’re kinky and couldn’t admit it. Maybe they think the Academy will help them to embrace a different side of themselves). 2: Their family is distraught over the failed union and so they sent Berrada/Ayala to Lowell to find a new claim and repair the damage.

THE BACHELOR AUCTION  proved most enlightening for the Order of the Primrose. Their leader, known only as Titan, bid on a scholarship student at the event. At once all the pieces fell into place.

The Order has thus far been dormant despite a promise to oust Westinghouse if their demands weren’t met. Their leader, Titan, had a change of heart. He no longer believed in their ideals and had even submitted an Intent to Claim form with his scholarship beau through the Office of the Headmaster. Titan planned to flout all convention and slowly let the Order fade away. Titan assumed the Order would be rudderless without a strong leader and knew this was the most effective means to ensure the Order made no progress.

EVIDENCE of illicit drug use between Titan and his would-be-Claim surfaced in the days following the Bachelor Auction. No one could identify where the photos were taken. The only irrefutable thing was the evidence of illegal drug use.

While previous Headmasters would have found ways to deal with this internally, Lowell no longer had the benefit of burying their scandals, now enduring closer scrutiny because they receive public tax dollars to stay open. Westinghouse and the Board which runs Lowell had no choice but to expel both Titan and the scholarship student he intended to claim.

With attention on the expulsion and wrongdoing of these students the Order is quietly gathering strength and regrouping around a new leader...someone rumored to be far more ruthless...and someone who will bring renewed energy to the Order’s stratagem.
