MC’s Guide to Offering Jars

So I’m not the best Hellenic Polytheist. I’m not good about being able to give offerings, especially the food kind, I however had an idea today. I know people do deity jars or some extent for their deities or spirit companions. I did this so it’s easy on me and I can be fair to my deities.

Disclaimer: This is not a spell jar. This is a jar meant to give offerings and can be added on to.

What is it?

An offering jar is where you place items that won’t mold or decay into a jar. Things like dried herbs, flowers, plants, etc. Anything natural based. These items should be what your deity/spirits like. Like for Artemis I included Pine Needles, Elder Berries, Chamomile, Jasmine and a few other items that I felt represent her the most in my own UPG. These jars are placed on your altar. You will also need honey.

What Do I need Exactly?

Any herbs, plants etc that won’t decay but represent your deity/spirit

Honey

A Large enough jar for multiple uses

How to I Construct These Jars?

1. Find your jar! This jar can be an up cycled jar from an herb or anything else. Don’t worry as long as it’s cleaned out it will work.

2. Cleanse the Jar! Even though my jars were clean I still went to my sink and cleansed them with water from my tap.

3. Dry the jar out with a towel and place it on your altar

4. Gather herbs and plants that are good offerings for your deity/spirit and place them there too.

5. Place your herbs in one at a time and shake the jar up a little.

6. pour a little bit of honey into the jar when you need to make an offering, make sure your close the jar though.

7. Add a sigil in the name of your deity! If you want to.

Why Use Them?

Well Honey doesn’t mold. neither do dried out herbs and plants. You can also use the honey within these jars to aid in spells(do not consume the honey I don’t advise that). This is just my way of giving an offering without wasting it. You don’t even have to offer a lot of honey, just a little bit each time you need to make an offering for them.

Also honey is cheap and you can support your local bee keepers by buying their honey! And again you’re offering such a small amount each offering that you shouldn’t be running out constantly.

And also they’re personalized for each deity!! 

What Did you Do For Each of Your Deities?

Well again each of them were different.

Hades: Mint, Roses, Cinnamon, Pecans

Persephone: Roses, Wild Flowers, Hibiscus, Jasmine

Apollo: Sunflowers, Dandelions, Marigolds, Nutmeg, Pine needles, Elderberries, Chamomile 

Artemis: Jasmine, Wild Flowers, Pine Needles, Chamomile, Elderberries

Dionysus: Roses, Marigolds, Cinnamon, Pecans(I would have added some vines/ivy, but I don’t have any so)

Small Witchy Challenges to Reconnect to Your Practice

Sometimes it can be hard to really feel connected to the actual magickal side of being a witch. Personally I’m involved with my deities or other spiritual/personal things 110% of the time but I don’t always feel connected to my actual witchcraft. So here are a few small magickal challenges I thought up to help anyone in a similar situation.

✨ – Set aside a time once a week to burn a candle. Make it a color that connects to whatever aspect of your life you would like insight or growth in and spend 10 minutes watching the flame and opening yourself to whatever it is you’re seeking.

✨ – If you have any books with pre written simple spells in them (most intro to witchcraft books have a section) flip through it and find a spell that calls to you and do it! As written, just to practice getting out of your head and going through the motions of spell work.

✨ – Send out blessings. To your crush. A new friend. Your best friend. Your mom. Whoever.

✨ – Call up your energy into your palms and then place them on your own heart to send yourself love and healing and to connect yourself to your energy.

✨ – Spend some time picturing the kind of witch you wish you were, your ideal witchsona if you will. Then tell yourself that’s exactly who you already are. Keep reminding yourself whenever you feel disconnected from your craft that you are already an unbelievable witch.

✨ – Go back through your old book of shadows/grimoire and reflect on what’s worked for you in the past.

✨ – Wake up and tell yourself first thing “I am a witch. I am magick. My life is full of magick. I see and feel all the magick around me. I am a witch.”

✨ – Pick out outfits or accessories that make you feel witchy. (Bonus points for intentionally planning a super witchy outfit on the full moon)

✨ – Do a spell for anything that’s coming up in your life that you want to work out a certain way, no matter how trivial it seems. Test this week? Do a spell. About to start a work out routine? Do a spell. First date? Spell. Gotta stay on budget grocery shopping? Spell. Your worth it, it’s good practice, and if it all ends up working even better!

✨ – Write down spell ideas as they come to you. Save them as notes in your phone and then come back and flesh them out in your BOS later.

✨ – Come up with your own challenges! If you’d like to share, tag me on your post or send them to me, I’d love to hear your ideas!

Magickal Uses for Kisses

A kiss is a very powerful thing, even in fairytales and lore of the past the power of kisses are told of (true love’s kiss, siren/mermaid kiss, first kiss, etc). a kiss can be a powerful tool for any witch. Here are a few suggestions for using kisses and the power they hold.

Use a kiss to charge objects: crystals, tarot cards, charms, amulets, etc etc. Use it to send your emotions and energy into the object. Love is a good emotion, but any positive energies you wish to charge the object with can be transferred this way. Adding your love to something can really give it a boost as well! Especially if it is for another to use. (Note: do not kiss toxic stones please! Be safe and smart)

Spell Sealing: Use a kiss to magically seal spells such as jar and bottle spells or use it to strengthen a (cooled!) wax seal. Imagine placing the kiss its like placing an invisible seal upon it, stamping in energy to lock th spell inside. 

For Air and Wind spells: For all of my fellow witches who use air and wind spells, blowing a kiss after a chant or spell to summon a wind in the direction you wish it to blow is a good way to guide the wind but also show it positive reinforcement. Use it to show your gratitude for the wind’s cooperation. It is best for gentler wind spells.

Glamour and Beauty spells: Kiss the mirror after a beauty or glamour spell. Thank the mirror for its aid and seal any negativity into it. It also a wonderful way to reflect love back at yourself!

Love Spells: Kisses are great for powering up love spells! Kiss a candle before lighting it (careful if you are using essential oils be sure not to kiss where they are), kiss the written name of the one you desire, kiss a charm or amulet to help bring love into your life, and finally blow a kiss when finishing the the spell to close it.

Kitchen Magic: blow a kiss to finish a dish (don’t be too close though, don’t want to spread germs) to put a final charge of love into it before serving it to others. Good for with tea and coffee spells too!

Public Magic: Want to remain discrete while casting a spell in public? Blow a kiss! Its much subtler than pointing or hand motions, especially if it is a positive spell you are casting on another or a friend but it is also good for curses, either way its a wonderful way to send your intentions. Whisper the words or chant needed for the spell (if any) under your breath, imagine them them gathering in an orb of energy at your lips as you do so. Then do a subtle kiss motion on your lips (no hands and no ‘fish lips’, you are trying to be subtle). Then release the energy and words towards the target with a gentle blow of breath, sending the ball of energy in that direction.

Mourning/Remembrance Rituals: Ending such a ritual with a blown kiss to close it can help release your feelings in a positive manner and close the ritual with love and sincerity. 

Thanking tools: As someone who uses tarot cards and many other divination tools, I like to place gentle kisses to the sides of the decks after using them to help bond with them. To show them my gratitude for assisting me in not only readings but also in my spell work. I also before days where I know i will be doing a lot of divination work, I will kiss them to help charge them up (as said above). It is an excellent way to bond with your tools!
