The Poster!
Tumblr media
I’m gonna miss these characters. It’s always tough wrapping up a project, especially one that involves characters you felt like you spent the last 8 years with.
Even though most of these folks are based on real people, both living and deceased, they’ve become part of my family in a way!

China™
I once worked on a project  that involved toy packaging. The toy was a 'finger skate' that we would place our own artwork on, and the vendor was in China. That basically meant sending any and all art files to China, which was always a bit nebulous and chaotic. This back in the 90's so, our systems of trade weren't exactly 100% yet.
Tumblr media
The project ended up being canceled, and an actual toy company ended up released the 'finger skates' , now called 'Tech Decks'. My original package design had included a somewhat silly instructions on the back that were more of a 'I wonder if they'll actually print this?' type of thing.

Years later, I'm living in  another city, and I'm at a '99 Cent store'. I just happen to stumble upon a generic looking finger skate toy on the shelf with some cheesy design on the front. I look at the back of the packaging, and lo and behold, it's my artwork! My guess is, the disc the art was on floated around a Chinese factory, and ended up being up for grabs.

Wild Hares
Years ago, I was asked to develop and idea for series of skateboard wheels that were targeted toward the younger set. I was given the name Wild Hares, and decided to give it a very Warner Brothers style.
Tumblr media
After I was given multiple wheels for the artwork to be printed on, I tried to get a little more elaborate. We were permitted only 4 colors on these, so, off the bat, I knew I'd go with a green and orange 'carrot color scheme.
Tumblr media
The narrative I'd come up with dealt with a rabbit that had eaten radioactive carrots, and became the 'Wild Hare' From there, a cat and mouse story evolved featuring a farmer named 'Annie' who employed increasingly brutal, militaristc methods of dealing with the Wild Hare:

After about 2 years and about 10 or so wheel graphics and clothing had come out, Wild Hares was discontinued. It was a one of the funner projects I'd had a chance to work on, and great lesson in graphic identity and marketing.

Album Art
One of the more infamous album covers of the 1970’s, and some might claim one of the best rock records of all time (one of the best selling for sure). Zeppelin lV ’s inside gate fold was the stuff of fascination for me as a kid. What did it mean?
Tumblr media
Then a friend of mine, held it up to a mirror, and showed me the reflective view…yikes! Is that a devil jackyl figure? What kind of stuff was Led Zeppelin into?

The Letter 'E'
I'd always loved appropriating letters when I saw them, especially an 'E'. A government surveillance company called 'E-Systems' (which is now known as Raytheon) had a great logo, and I couldn't help borrow their 'E' a while back.
