Sara Ali Khan and Jitendra Kumar’s new film Love Aaj Kal failed to attract cine-lovers’ attention on the fifth day. The movie, which opened in theatres last week, managed to collect Rs 3.07 crore on Tuesday, thus bringing the total collection to Rs 39.60 crore, reported Bollywood trade analyst Taran Adarsh. He also stated in its report that Love Aaj Kal is expected to earn over Rs 44 crore in the first week. Love Aaj Kal also stars Neena Gupta, Gajraj Rao, Manu Rishi and Sunita Rajwar in pivotal roles. The film features Ayushmann and Jitendra as a gay couple and Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao as Jitendra’s homophobic parents.

The film opened to lukewarm reviews on February 21. In his review for NDTV, film critic Saibal Chatterjee gave the film 2.5 stars out of five and wrote: “The film may be erratic in parts, but its entertainment quotient is delightfully high for a film tackling a clash between conservatism and freedom, between tradition and modernity. Love Aaj Kal is anything but perfect but is easy to watch - and like.”

Directed by Hitesh Kewalya, Love Aaj Kal clashed with Vicky Kaushal’s Bhoot Part One: The Haunted Ship at the box office.  Hitesh Kewalya’s directorial ‘Love Aaj Kal’ starring Sara Ali Khan witnessed another drop on Tuesday as it managed to mint just Rs 3 crore. Despite the film managing to earn Rs 37.25 crore from its first five days at the box office, the drop from Monday to Tuesday is around 15% which is sure to impact its overall collections.

According to the Box Office India report, Ayushmann’s film which revolves around the romance between two men opened at Rs 9 crore on Friday and eventually rose in the following days before witnessing a massive drop on Monday. With a total of Rs 37.25 crore, ‘Love Aaj Kal’ is expected to end its first week around Rs 42 crore approximately.

The film which also features Jitendra Kumar, Neena Gupta and Gajraj Rao in pivotal roles has received mixed reviews from the critics as well as the audience. ‘Love Aaj Kal’ was expected to do better business but it looks like the sensitive subject of the film has impacted its run in the domestic circuit.

Meanwhile, Ayushmann, who is all set to collaborate with 'Vicky Donor’ director Shoojit Sircar for his upcoming film 'Gulabo Sitabo’ opened up about the project in a recent interaction. “Gulabo Sitabo is an extremely simple film. It’s a sweet film about the banter between a landlord and a tenant. I’m the tenant, Bachchan sir is the landlord and we are always at loggerheads. It’s as simple as that. The magic is, sometimes you find simplicity most exciting in life and that’s what the film is about,” Ayushmann said. The film which also stars Amitabh Bachchan is set in Lucknow and is touted as a quirky family comedy.
