Once Upon a Saloon
@fan-maddson
Cal mad his way into the saloon, nodding at Greeze as he passed the four armed creature. He had been exploring the flats and battling raiders as he passed them. He found old artifacts that he would be giving to Merrin to catalogue. Even though Cere and Cardova were gone...he still continued the work they had been doing.
He ordered a drink from the droid Monk, and moved to one of the back tables, making himself comfortable as BD1 hopped off of him and moved around the saloon, scanning things. Cal smiled to himself and shook his head, eyes finding Merrin as she looked over the artifacts. They had tried being together but after a short time they realized it just...wasn't working any longer. They had lost too much and changed too much. The separation was mutual, and she seemed more focused on Kata now which Cal was glad for. The little girl needed someone who would be there and Cal just...wasn't that person.
Every time he looked at her he felt immense guilt over killing Bode. But he needed to...Bode gave him no choice. He knew Kata didn't blame him...but now they had Tanalor and everything and he felt lost.
What was he to do now?

The Scraps
Cal sighed to himself quietly as he walked to the train to prepare for his day. He’d take the train as normal and begin his day in the yard. As he approached, he noticed someone new. It was a man taller than he was by maybe an inch, and dark hair. He appeared more serious and clean cut that anyone else but he was in a scrappers uniform.
Cal normally keeps to himself, but he could see the man appeared nervous. So he sighed once more and approached him.
“Hello…new here?” He asked kindly.
The train doors opened and they both stepped inside. Cal had no way knowing that the man used to be a senator and was hiding just as much as he was from the Empire.

Cal nodded. "Thank you...I made more friends but we've sort of went our own ways now. I miss them...but I think I'll enjoy having you here with me. And your father too."

Cal sighed as he arrived at a saloon on some backwater planet that the empire hadn’t reached yet. He was tired and lonely…losing Cere and the others over time hurt. It helped that they weren’t dead….but he felt alone. Greeze had settled down and opened his own saloon, Cere had left with Cordova to preserve what texts were left from the Jedi, and Merrin had gone to travel and find herself.
All Cal had was BB and sometimes it wasn’t enough. He was starved for human interaction. But the empire made things difficult for him.
He approached the bar and took a seat, his eyes watching the man behind it make drinks and some simple food items. He smiled at Cal with a friendly turn of his lips.
“Hello newcomer,” he greeted. “What can I get you?”
“Just a water and one of your entrees. Not looking for fancy.”

Cal nodded in agreement. "They will. They...they killed a friend of mine before I found myself and healed my connection to the force. He had been the only support I had growing up."

Cal nodded. “I felt that way on Bracca. I only made one friend and even he didn’t know I was a Jedi until I forced to save his life. Or not forced…that’s the wrong word. Because I made the choice to do it. He was killed later that day by an inquisitor looking for me.”

Cal smiled warmly at her. “That sounds amazing honestly. I’ll admit I’ve been pretty lonely while I’ve been on my own. I mean…I have my droid but it isn’t the same.”

"Well I've been fighting the empire on and off," Cal offered. "Just took a break when I was staying with you guys. My friends had recently went their own ways to have their own journeys. Maybe its time I have my own now? And I'd love for it to include you."

Cal nodded thoughtfully, understanding the weight of her words. “Raw power can be a double-edged sword,” he replied. “But with guidance, it can become something incredible. We can start with the basics—breathing exercises, focusing your energy. It’s all about finding your center and building a strong foundation.” He glanced at her, sensing a flicker of determination in her eyes. “We’ll take it one step at a time. And remember, it’s okay to be afraid. It just means you’re aware of what you’re capable of.” He smiled reassuringly. “We’ll figure this out together, Kate.”

“Sure I’d love to,” he said. “I technically finished my training myself but I’m still always learning something new about the force. But since we’re some of the last we may want to train others one day.”

“And he is more than welcome with me too,” Cal told her. “But eventually I may drop him off in Koboh with a friend who owns a saloon. You’ll also be welcome to stay if you choose. I’ll leave that choice up to you.”
Although Cal hopes she stays.

Cere sighed. “The Jedi are so few right now that finding one always brings hope…even if said Jedi appears to have been a padawan at the time of the purge. Perhaps I can finish his training…”

Cal nodded. He had met one of Darth Vader’s children in passing…nothing too special. She was a child after all. He didn’t know of another though. And it wasn’t his business.
“There is always a chance you may have been taken with your wife if you hadn’t stayed with Fan, and that would mean she would have been alone. Having family…friends to support you is important. And we’ll find your wife and get her home to you. I’ve no doubt about that.”

Cal nodded. “Anyone in particular take an interest in your family beforehand? Aside from the emperor I’m sure.”
